On today's True Sunlight Podcast, Co-hosts Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell begin their dive down the complex rabbit hole that is the Sara Lynn Moore-Colucci case.  Sara Lynn was killed on the evening of May 20, 2015, outside of Charleston, South Carolina, at a jewelry warehouse she owned with her husband, Michael Colucci. She died by asphyxiation mere feet from Michael, who said he was waiting in the car for her to use the restroom. Michael Colucci contends that Sara Lynn took her own life or … barring that … she tripped and fell into the loops of an industrial garden hose and accidentally hung herself.  When first-responders arrived at the scene, they found Sara Lynn’s body already cold to the touch and Michael with scratches on his body and a fat and bloody lip, which he says he got from giving Sara Lynn CPR. In 2018, Michael was tried for her murder but that case ended in a mistrial. Now, as the prosecution and defense gear up for a May 13, 2024, retrial, Mandy and Liz break down what went wrong six years ago and the story of Sara Lynn and Michael that the jury should have heard back then.   We'll also hear from speakers at the Victims Matter Rally like David Pascoe, Carl Smalls Sr. and Sarah Ford plus a special message from Sandy Smith on her experiences at the rally... Bowen — who was accused by three girls in three separate counties of rape — avoided prison time for those sexual assaults after he received a sweetheart plea deal in 2022, which his lawyer-legislator was able to secure because of his implied influence over the prosecution and the judge. This is his second arrest since his sentence was suspended almost two years ago and it’s just four months since he was released from the South Carolina Department of Corrections.  Also on today’s show, Mandy and Liz begin their coverage of the Michael Colucci retrial, starting with the night Michael’s wife, Sara Lynn, was found dead outside their business in Summerville. It’s been another wild week in the world of Alex Murdaugh. Convicted murderer Alex Murdaugh is headed to federal court to plead guilty for the first time in any of his criminal cases. True Sunlight co-hosts Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell take a look at the timing of this plea deal and how his motion for a new trial — with his bombshell accusations of jury-tampering — fit into Team Murdaugh’s larger plan. Update: Murdaugh did plead guilty in federal court today as Mandy and David live chatted the event to Premium Members on Discord. Sentencing will occur at a later date. Keep in mind: the SC AG currently has custody of Alex as “primary custodian” for life sentences but promised to deliver/loan him to any federal hearings and in essence Alex didn’t object to that back in May. And when sentenced federally, the bureau of prisons / federal judge can execute/order sentence to be consecutive or concurrent to state sentence… but he’ll serve it in the care of primary custodian. At the end of an epic three-part hearing Thursday, South Carolina Judge Clifton Newman sentenced Alex Murdaugh’s former best friend and co-conspirator Cory Fleming to 20 years in state prison for his role in helping Alex steal millions from the Satterfield and Pinckney families. True Sunlight co-hosts Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell break down that dramatic hearing, plus they discuss what went down in two other hearings that happened in this same courtroom: One for Alex and one for Russell Laffitte. The first co-conspirator of Alex Murdaugh is finally behind bars! True Sunlight co-hosts Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell attended Cory Fleming’s sentencing hearing this week in Charleston, South Carolina, where they watched Fleming — a former attorney who took advantage of Gloria Satterfield’s family — throw himself on the mercy of the court. The two share highlights from the hearing and explore new questions, such as: Was this a real display of remorse? Or did this just get worse? Did the federal government get played by Alex Murdaugh’s former best friend? As mentioned on Cup Of Justice, Fleming will serve 46 months in federal prison and pay $102,221 in restitution for his involvement in the scheme to steal millions from the Satterfield family. Moments after Judge Richard Gergel announced his sentence on August 15, Fleming voluntarily surrendered and was escorted out of the U.S. District Court in Charleston by U.S. Marshals. On Tuesday, about 100 people gathered at the South Carolina statehouse to talk about something really important — victims and how they are often pushed aside in our justice system.  Murdaugh Murders Podcast host Mandy Matney and other victims advocates in South Carolina rallied on the Statehouse steps this week, calling for meaningful change at the legislative level. As we reported in MMP this week, the Judge Hall reversed his earlier order that basically split the "boat crash" case in two and allowed the Murdaughs to indefinitely postpone that trial so Alex could prepare for his speedy murder trial. Now that Alex Murdaugh has been convicted in the murders of his wife and son, it’s time to take a look back on all the pieces that had to come together for the jury to deliver that guilty verdict. Last week we revealed that 14th Circuit Judge Carmen Mullen — who has been a key figure in the Murdaugh world — tried to create a crime and orchestrate the arrest of a man with psychiatric vulnerabilities in her neighborhood five years ago. This week, we have the recordings showing what she did — and her behavior is far worse than it sounded on paper.
