 "TOM KELLY was born into abject poverty in Derry, Northern Ireland and into a staunch Catholic family and community. He sought meaning and new life by travelling, especially to Dublin and also London - where he was questioned by Special Branch and sent back to Derry. There, a remarkable conversion to Jesus led to Tom becoming an evangelist within his community in the middle of a low-level civil war. Tom recalls what The Troubles were like, the times when he witnessed to masked-gunmen at IRA check-points, the death-threats he's received and how he went on to start up the Wellspring Church with a simple five letter word GRACE. Tom is also part of The Bogside Artists, whose work is now recognised world-wide but ignored by Derry Council. Parts 1 and 2 of this trilogy of programmes on the Bogside Artists are also accessible via Flame CCR's LISTEN AGAIN".

John persuades Lisa to open up about her confused childhood where it was only in her early teens that Lisa miraculously discovered her real identity and much more recently when she re-established relationship with her birth mother. These and other traumas in her life resulted in severe disability but recent improvements, through God's help and love have resulted in Lisa now enjoying a fulfilled Christian ministry.

John talks to JUDITH MITCHELL who was born very premature in Liverpool, grew up in Wirral and from an early-age, had to live with deafness. With little hearing, Judith has had to learn to lip-read and use hearing aids and attend special schools, and was involved with special Wirral clubs for the deaf. Despite her disabilities, she trained in Derby and Newcastle to become a fully-qualified Fashion Designer. Now back in Bebington, Judith has added Florist and Child Care to her qualifications. Judith tells of having to contend not only with disability, but also with loneliness, bullying and domestic abuse. She also talks of coming into Christian faith, as the result an unexpected 'vision' one day, out in Jordan,  where she was baptised ... and she now happily worships at a Wirral church with her young daughter.

John talks to Trace Taylor who is a Christian Cheshire-based recording-artist working in the Dance genre and looking to communicate with people in the nightclub, rave culture. Trace talks about her strict upbringing, her battle with teenage mental illness, her coming to faith, her Christian faith helping her to cope with mental illness, and her efforts today to take Christian light into dark places.

Garth Hewitt is a living-legend of Christian popular music, having worked with Cliff Richard and many others, released some 40 albums and played all over the world - and yet has eschewed fame and fortune, to relate the stories of the poor and the oppressed. With the advent of his autobiography and his 2-CD compilation album in 2018, Garth talks about his life and his encounters with Martin Luther King, Mother Theresa and Cliff Richard - and the time when he bought Cliff lunch at McDonalds.

Nico dropped into the Flame CCR radio studio in Rock Ferry and took over Norman & Nick's lunchtime live programme with his South African passion for gospel preaching and Christian revival. Rob Woodburn is Wallasey born-and-bred and is a lay preacher in the Church of England. Well-known and popular in the region, Rob knows what unexpected tragedy can feel like. Describing his own personal tragedy, Rob offers hope whilst not avoiding reality in any way.

Jules is a vegan singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and worship leader who studied in Manchester and now heads up the Get Gospel choir (BBC Choir of Year entrant). In 2018, she released her debut album and now talks about all of these things, along with her Christian faith. In the lyrics of her new material, she addresses the weighty subject of mental health and unashamedly opens up to this issue in her own life.

Jonathan Sarfati ("Jono" to his friends) grew up and studied in New Zealand (national Chess champion). His family background is Jewish, and he came to know the Lord Jesus as Messiah while he was at university - a Ph.D. for research into spectroscopy. Blessed with an incisive intellect and considerable theological as well as scientific expertise, he became a formidable opponent of evolutionism, and is widely regarded as one of the world's top apologists for the Biblical (six-day) account of creation and the historical accuracy of the Genesis record. Now based in the USA, his books include the popular "Refuting Evolution" series, "Refuting Compromise" and "The Greatest Hoax on Earth" - a vigorous rebuttal of Richard Dawkins and the "new atheists". His latest publication "The Genesis Account" is an in-depth commentary on Genesis 1-11, and is a work of considerable scholarship, combining history, theology and science, and looks set to become a classic in its field. Hannah Mayo (Hannah Scott Joynt) is a renowned journalist, broadcaster and presenter - and also is a Producer of BBC Radio 2's 'Pause For Thought'. She has established herself in her own right, in the context of her late father being Bishop Michael Scott-Joynt - and being related, by marriage, to a well-known BBC Radio 2 drivetime presenter! In interview with John Cheek, Hannah also refreshingly speaks honestly about the difficult times in her life, how she has learnt from past mistakes and how such times have strengthened her faith. She places great importance on hearing the stories of others and describes some of the remarkable stories she has encountered in her professional career - including that of one of the children rescued by the Kindertransport from the Nazi death-camp of Auschwitz.

Years later, having enjoyed a lot of success as a worship-leader, life's challenges led to this singer, guitarist and songwriter returning to his roots: and releasing an album, 'The Journey'. John Cheek talks to Pete Caulfield about this new album, "The Journey", and Pete reveals some insights on his life in Liverpool. The programme ends with music by the late Norman Barratt, a great guitarist. Sadly Pete died in 2023, Liverpool and Flame has lost a great guy.

Rick Henry has been guitar-tech for a well known recording artist, worked for The Coral and The Charlatans and now plays guitar for Royal Standard (launched in 2017). Here he talks to John about his troubled upbringing and how his life was miraculously turned-around - and ends with one of his recent recordings.
