NASCAR legend Kyle Petty is, in short, the real deal.
Not only is he part of NASCAR royalty...but he used his fame to launch an annual cross country charity ride to help children's charities...then, after the passing of his son Adam, he founded Victory Junction, a camp that enriches the lives of kids with serious illnesses.
He could easily sit back and rest on his fame in retirement, but he continues to give back...and with his 28th annual ride coming up in a few weeks, we got him on the phone this morning to talk about it!

Yesterday morning we lost a fellow KC radio personality and, more importantly, a friend yesterday when 101 The Fox's Brian "Slacker" Adams passed away after a long and hard fought battle with acute myeloid leukemia.

And no one we've ever known met the challenges he had in front of him with the grace, strength and heart that Slacker displayed.

We paid tribute to our friend this morning...so please take a moment to listen and learn from the many things he taught us.

Any day we get to have an astronaut on the phone is a good day around here...and with the recent story about some space junk falling through the roof of a house in Naples FL, that was a perfect chance to get someone who has plenty of experience with space junk on the phone, retired astronaut Clayton Anderson!!

WWE/NXT star Baron Corbin is always one of our favorite friends to catch up with, bit just because he grew up here...but mostly because, well, he's a bad influence on us...in the most awesome way possible!!

KC native and Friend of the Show, Rudy Reyes rose from a troubled childhood that landed him and his brothers in the Omaha Home for Boys to, in 1998, In 1998, joining the USMC and was ultimately serving in Afghanistan and Iraq as part of the 1st Battalion Recon...eventually being part of the book and HBO mini-series, "Generation Kill"...and that is just scratching the surface of his story!

He's gearing up to film another season of the Fox reality competition, "Special Forces: World Toughest Test"...and this coming Monday night, he's debuting his new History Channel series "The Proof Is Out There: Military Mysteries"

This show's relationship with Henry Winkler has long been known...and recently, before Johnny led the Happy Days chat at Planet Comicon, we go the chance to talk to Anson Williams....and today, we finally reached the trifecta of Happy Days cast members as we got to have Don Most on the show!!!!!

Back in 1979, Tom Garvey was a Vietnam Vet in his late 30s working handling the parking lots at Philly's Veteran's Stadium when, after a night spent with his crew in a storage area so that they would be ready for an early event, had the bright idea that it just might make a nice apartment....and for the next tow and half years, he did just that...he had a secret, fully functional apartment, rent free, right there in Veteran's Stadium!!

It's been almost a year since we've talked to our friend, comedian Drew Lynch, so when we found out he was rollin' into Wichita this week, we figured we'd call him up and ask "WHY THEM NOT US???"....and, as always with Drew, shit got weird, right away!

Yesterday, we lost one of the best and brightest people we've had the privilege to know, Blackberry Smoke drummer Brit Turner.
Since his diagnosis with glioblastoma in November of '22, he fought with everything he had in him....continuing to tour and record with the band up until December of last year.
The band released a statement that reads:
“It is with the deepest sorrow that we inform everyone that our brother Brit Turner has moved on from this life,” the group said in its statement. “If you had the privilege of knowing Brit on any level, you know he was the most caring, empathetic, driven and endearing person one could ever hope to meet. Brit was Blackberry Smoke’s True North, the compass that instituted the ideology that will continue to guide this band.  Brit has battled glioblastoma since his diagnosis in the fall of 2022 and fought every day. We ask for prayers for his family and band brothers. More information on arrangements will be forthcoming. Thank you to everyone who has supported and been there for Brit and his family through this fight.”

Anyone who ever had the pleasure of meeting Brit would tell you the same thing...we was larger than life, funny, kind, a family man, and truly a one of a kind human being.
And we here are going to miss him very much.
Rest easy, Brit. We'll see you on the other side.

Drummer Artimus Pyle joined Lynyrd Skynyrd before the band recorded their 3rd album, right as the band's popularity was set to go worldwide...and then just a couple years later, it came to a tragic end in a heavily wooded area in Mississippi.
Artimus, miraculously, was one of the survivors of that crash....and eventually started his own band, The Artimus Pyle Band...and now he's assembled names like Sammy Hagar, Ronnie Dunn, Billy Ray Cyrus, Dolly Parton and more to pay tribute to Skynyrd's legacy with a new tribute album!!

It’s been a minute since we’ve had our friend April Macie in studio to hang out…I mean, we get it, she’s been busy being married and living a beautiful life in Italy and Malibu…so when we heard she was rollin’ into KC to perform at The Comedy Club of Kansas City, we were happy to welcome her back into our sweaty uncomfortable embrace…and it was fantastic  catching up!

It’s been a while since TJ Miller has rolled into KC…and every time he comes in studio it’s ALWAYS a good time…a fuckin’ weird time, but a good time!! And today was no different as TJ drove all night from Des Moines to hang out with us this morning in advance of his SOLD OUT shows at The Funny Bone!

As the lead singer 70s jailbait rockers, The Runaways, Cherie Currie is an underground legend herself...but now she's joined other legends like Alice Cooper, members of The Circle Jerks, The Butthole Surfers, Dead Kennedys, Soundgarden, Nashville, just to name a few, as well as the Memphis based band, Joecephus & The George Jonestown Massacre to pay tribute to legendary punk pioneers the MC5...and we talked to Cherie this morning about that and more!

Starting back in 1988, John Walsh made it his goal to bring down as many bad guys as he could with the Fox series, America's Most Wanted...and for over 25 seasons he did just that until the show ended in 2012.

But now he and that wildly popular show are back on Fox premiering this Monday night...and we talked to John about it all this morning!

We've had the chance to talk to multiple astronauts over the years, and quite frankly, it never EVER gets old.

And today we got to meet retired astronaut Steve Swanson, who over 3 missions to the ISS, spent over 28 hours walking in space!! And he's coming to an action-packed Planet Comicon this March!!!

There are so many factors in this Saturday's game against Miami...Yes, they've never won a game in weather under 40 degrees...but the Chiefs have never won a Wild Card game against Miami...so we enlisted Chiefs great  Trent Green to get all of the details about this weekend's game!!

It's been a bit since we talked to our friend Actor/Comedian TJ Miller...which is why we were excited to catch up with him...and, as always, we picked up just like no time had passed...and, again as always, it got weird real fast...and we wouldn't have it any other way!

Dear Johnny,

My name is Amber and I’m a 42 year old single mother of 3 and I’m also a dialysis patient. I have had hereditary kidney trouble since the age of 9 (IGA nephropathy).

At the age of 26 my kidney began to shut down and I had to start dialysis (3 times a week for 7 years). In 2014, I was finally able to get a donor and for 6 years life was great. In 2020, I went to work one morning and I didn’t feel well. I just didn’t feel right. I was rushed to the hospital and after testing doctors found that my donor kidney was failing. At that point I had to go back on dialysis 3 times per week for 3 ½ hours per session.

I have so much scar tissue up and down my arms from all of the needle pokes and it’s all so draining and time consuming. It can be painful and physically exhausting.

I have kept working 4 days a week and I stay late if I can to get more hours or take extra shifts. When I’m not working or at dialysis I sleep a lot to try and recover. I am awaiting testing for my heart to see if it’s safe to go back on the donor list.

The only way I can afford to live is by sharing a place with my 2 daughters (ages 20 and 16) and they help take care of me as best they can. I also have a son, but he lives in Hayes, KS. With all of the testing and doctor’s appointments and dialysis I’ve fallen behind on some bills. I do my best but sometimes it just isn’t enough. I pray that you can help me and I thank you for reading my letter.
