A few months ago David spent a few days in a place he booked through a company called Canopy and Stars. He wanged on about it on the pod and they heard and got in touch to see if he wanted to pod from one of their locations. He was sent a few options of interesting places and in this episode he takes Joe to see the one he liked the best. David get's a bit anxious getting out of the car but settles down when he meets the lovely owner Yvette who takes him through woodland to the location. The place David has chosen is incredible and very unusual and has been on George Clarkes Amazing Spaces much to Joe's delight. Yvette tells them all about how she designed the space herself and her husband built it. David takes on the role of estate agent. After the tour Yvette invites David in for a cuppa and he finds himself in a strangers kitchen on a random morning. It’s fair to say he was out of his comfort zone. You Tube pranksters Josh Pieters & Archie Manners are on the pod and mayhem ensues. They are running late so while Joe and David wait for them to appear they start worrying that they are being pranked. After a few tech issues the lads appear like whirling dervishes telling Joe he looks older than he does on tv. They talk about some of their pranks including flying Katie Hopkins over to Prague to pick up the Campaign to Unify The Nation award. Joe is concerned that they are spending a lot of money on their pranks and wonders how much coin they are left with. Moving on they discuss employing an expensive lawyer so they don't get sued, trying to put Buckingham Palace on Air BNB and Archie admits he didn't turn up for the first record as he was hungover. They suggest doing a tour together called Young v Old and base the live show on memory and eyesight tests. Joe describes the whole experience of recording this ep as being on a rollercoaster without a seatbelt and David get's quite sweaty. Joe's off on another adventure, this time he's in Cornwall having returned to a special place that brings back fond memories. David has no idea where Joe is in the world despite it being mentioned on numerous pods before and the place that sparked Joe's interest in his latest hobby. After showing David the view and giving him a tour of the holiday home where he is staying Joe's meets up with a new buddy called Russ. Gabby Logan is today's guest and David repeatedly describes her as Royalty. Joe and David both can’t stop saying “can I ask a question” much to Gabby's amusement and then promise that they will try and stop saying it as that's what she's there for. Joe and David chat to the comic and actor Ted Robbins best known for his roles in Benidorm, Little Britain, The League of Gentleman and Phoenix Nights. David's in an air-bnb but the wifi is terrible so he decamps to the car and decides to take Joe on a tour of some of the houses where he used to work as a gardener. The tour predominantly focusses on Twineham and ends up in a motorway service station where David would take his daily nap. He has very little in the way of information for each of the houses but nonetheless Joe finds it all very exciting. Joe decides to try and break his 1k time again and heads to Brighton seafront for a run. He tells David his personal best for doing 5k is 21.17 so David does the math to work out what Joe needs to do to break his 1k time and then tells Joe that the world record is 2min 11. Joe doesn't think this is relevant as Steve Ovett wasn't podding at the time. They discuss whether Joe can break the 4 minute barrier for 1k and shave 10 seconds off his original time. Joe get's out of the car and gives it a good go as David watches on, offering motivational tips and trying not to giggle. There's an awful lot of huffing, puffing and panting as Joe really goes for it before collapsing on the beach. They bump into Petra and have a little sit on the pebbles. Joe puts his feet in the sea but it's not as warm as it looks. They decide to rebrand these pods as Adventure Pods to try and get people out trying something new. David reveals whether Joe has actually beat his PB or not. David's in the spinny seat waiting for his surprise guest. He's feeling very anxious and looks to Joe for reassurance. He's been drinking black coffee which is not helping his jitters. David has had a big package delivered and hasn't got a clue what it is or who it's from. He opens it to find its a load of metal detecting accesories. Joe reveals that the gear has been sent by Peter at LP Metal Detecting to aid David with his detecting adventures. Joe and David catch up with their old mate comedian Roisin Conaty. While they wait for her they tell each other elephant jokes. Roisin kicks off by telling them about cold water swimming, getting the shits and losing her voice. After swapping loads of funny stories they start taking post-it notes off David’s pin board and talking about whatever is on it, this throws up some even funnier stories including being bullied into touching a stags antlers. They decide Roisin is a wise owl, Joe is an old soul and David is a kid at heart. Joe reminisces about when Roisin used to run a weird little gig in Westminster and he thought she worked for the government. David and Joe get excited about the possibility of Joe getting his hair cut live on the pod by Nicky Clarke. Joe's been sent a Dry Robe after his visit to the Wave because he got so cold. David and Joe struggle to find anything to talk about and find themselves talking about the next ep as they can't find anything to talk about in the current ep. Clutching at straws, David shows Joe how he rides his Peloton but Joe finds watching it unbearable and begs him to stop. David carries on riding, bobbing up and down until Joe threatens to turn the camera off. They talk about old jobs they have had and David reminisces about working at a golf club and how many mistakes he made. Joe reminds David that he also worked on a gold course and can't believe that David can't remember this despite telling him 20 times. It's Joe's turn for a surprise guest and he doesn't have a clue who is coming on. After a slightly anxious start, Joe turns away from the screen so he can't see who the guest is. When David tell's him to spin around in the spinny chair for the big reveal Joe doesn't recognise the person in front of him. This is understandable as the guest is not someone you'd recognise but is someone who started an amazing event that happens in 22 countries worldwide. Joe opens a flat looking parcel, it is a present from the Battle Of The Chatabands winner Mezz Coleman. Mezz has sent Joe her album so he can play it on the retro record player his wife Petra bought him for Christmas. He goes downstairs to play it but things get a bit awkward because the cleaner is in the kitchen. Joe beats a hasty retreat back upstairs to his office. Then David takes Joe on some metal detecting forums and they realise that all metal detectorists either sound like proper metal detectorists or professional golfers. After wondering if women have hobbies, Joe looks at one of his Petra's interior design magazines. They decide it would be nice to use Mezz's song to play them out but after playing it they carry on nattering and the song doesn’t really play them out at all. At last it has stopped raining so David can take Joe metal detecting. David goes to his his usual field and fires up the kit. Joe is loving it but to say its a slow start is an understatement. They realise they don't really know how the Garrett Pro Pointer works so Joe tries to read out the instructions for David as they go. Excitingly they get a hit and David digs and digs and digs and digs and digs and digs but NOTHING. So they start again which feels like a step back. But eventually they get another hit and believe it or not they find something incredible (a nut and bolt with an Allen Key top). This is just the beginning of David's hunt for gold. Comedy actress Lolly Adefope is on the pod. Joe and David are delighted to see her and they talk about popping round to her house unannounced and what that would be like. After chatting about what it was like all working together on David and Joe's discontinued sitcom Rovers they ask Lolly what it was like working on Ghosts, a sitcom that did get recommisioned multiple times. Lolly tells them how she cried on the last day of filming Ghosts and how much she loved working on it. They talk about Lolly being in Mission Impossible (as a typist) and doing a scene with Tom Cruise slamming into the window behind her. She tells them she is the same height as Tom and what a lovely man he is as he gave her a compliment. They make her recreate her audition piece on the pod while they watch and give her direction. Lolly asks them about Paul Gorton and The Traitors connection. After telling them about her new Superhero's project, Joe asks her what it's like to be flown to LA for filming. They worry they haven't made the most of the time with Lolly and have asked her too many silly billy questions. David has bought a metal detector and was going to take Joe out to experience his new found hobby but it’s pissing down and apparently the machine doesn’t work very well in the rain. So instead David tells Joe all about how much fun he had yesterday when he went metal detecting with the family. David tells Joe that he couldn't pluck up the courage to ask a farmer for permission to use the detector in their field so he got his wife Naomi to ask. They discuss why Naomi agreed to be the one to knock on the farmers door even though it's David's hobby. Continuing his story David tells Joe how they all climbed the fence to get in the field and within 5 minutes of firing up the dector found a Hay Rack Tine. Joe is off an adventure and zoom's David to show him where he is. It takes David a while to cotton on to where Joe is and what he is doing there. David tells Joe about his flirty window cleaning client that he had to deal with in the 90s who kept stroking his hands. They discuss whether this was appropriate behaviour for a client and what they would do if their wives held hands with the window cleaner. Then they introduce a new section called 'Leg Up' where they help promote a new venture or anyone that needs a leg up. Joe's friend has just started a jock strap business called Sticky Beard and secretly sent David a sample so they talk about this and how David thought it was someone else who had sent it to him. David takes Joe out for a supposedly scary trip along the remote roads of Dartmoor looking for the spirits and ghosts that are said to inhabit the county of Devon. Annoyingly it's not very dark but David still hopes they will come across the legendary 'Hairy Hands' on the B3212. Joe and David meet Rock'n Rolls favourite magician Ben Taylor, a brilliant and funny magician who is also a mod hence his name 'The Magic Mod'. The wonder of magic never fails to enthrall and it's not long before they've regressed back to being excited children delighted to see Ben's magic tricks up close. While they are waiting for David to come on the zoom, Joe and TV Joe plan next years christmas party. TV Joe apologises for snapping at Natalie Cassidy when he was hungover at the last Chatabix christmas party. As they continue to wait, it becomes clear that David has forgotten they are podding. When David eventually appears he is outside a not so luxury spa that he has walked out of because he felt too uncomfortable. It transpires he went to the spa for the day with his wife Naomi and got the days muddled thinking TV Joe was on the following week. It's so good to have Paul Gorton back in the bosom of Chatabix once again after his appearance on BBC1 show The Traitors series 2. Joe and David try to think of some questions that Paul hasn’t already been asked in the hundreds of interviews he's done since leaving the show. David is overwhelmed by the weight of what to ask. The stress of having more listeners is worrying Joe and David. They wonder if they’ve hit a ceiling in the podcast world questioning if anyone actually like's them. Barry Hearn, sport promoter and founder of Matchroom Sport is having trouble getting on the zoom call ! David tells Barry he used to be scared of him when he was 12. Barry tells them stories about boxing greats Mike Tyson and Frank Bruno but admits he was shite at boxing himself. Joe asks what the perfect night would look like as a boxing promoter. He says that a fight between David & Joe could potentially be a big seller. They find out that Barry is best mates with Steve Davis. so they tell him they hugged Steve at the Blur concert. Barry talks about his formative years, growing up on a council estate with short trousers, no money and his mum sending him to elecution lessons. It's the 2nd round in the Battle of The Chatabands when David, Joe and music producer Steve Baker score three songs out of 10. David is feeling really uncomfortable in his role as a music reviewer. Steve kicks off by telling Joe that Roachford is playing in Brighton. They listen to each song in turn giving their opinion on each one. Joe thinks the first song is grungy, Steve thinks it has high energy while David struggles to review it as feels like a pratt. Joe thinks he loves the 2nd song. David tries to talk him out of liking it despite liking it himself and it reminding him of Biff Bang Pow. Steve agrees with Joe. Scores on the doors Joe gives 7.5, David gives an 8, Steve also gives an 8. David decides he's a punk as the final song sounds like the Pogues. The first round of Battle Of The Chatabands - Joe & David have teamed up with music producer Steve Baker for an exciting new mini- series. They've asked for unpublished bands / songwriters to send songs to Chatabix and have chosen three at random to play live on the pod. One of the bands will get chosen to go through to the grand final at the end of the year (which hopefully will be judged by someone from the muso industry). The bands will be revealed live on the pod. David pretends he's submitted one of the songs. Joe struggles to review the songs from a technical perspective and David realises he's not very good at reviewing music. Luckily Steve Baker has a good technical and musical ear. Joe asks what would have happened if Lewis Capaldi hadn't been invented and gets confused between A&R and A&E. After much umming and ahhing they score each song for tingle factor but only one makes it through to the final. Joe's struggles to finish the surfing saga as it's been too long and he can't recreate the life changing moment when he was surfing in California. It's the second part of Joe's surfing story but before they pick up where they left off the lads have a little romanticise about what life would be like doing the pod if Joe was a surf dude and David was a muso tinkering with his guitar all day. Joe tells David about nervously walking along the beachfront in Carlsbad with a rolled up towel under his arm to meet Rusty who he has booked the surf lesson with. On arrival Joe's asked to change into a wetsuit which throws up loads of uncomfortable feelings and Joe secretly wishes the lesson would get cancelled as the waves are too big. As Joe enters the ocean the instructor Mark asks him if he's ever surfed before. Joe tells him no, definitely not, not even skateboarded mate, in the vague hope that he'd be impressed by how quick he picks it up. The midlife crisis has fully kicked in.
