Do you find you often run out of time for the things that YOU want to do?
Perhaps you skip yoga because you've got to finish off that email or you're breathwork/meditation practice goes out the window because there's a pile of laundry that needs folding.
Maybe you cancel that massage you've been looking forward to because your teenager has forgotten to take the dog for a walk!
These things seem small in isolation but when added together, can seriously impact the quality of your life.
If, however, you learnt to live a YES-Filled life, then you'd find a way to make time and space for yourself even when you're super busy.
And this is exactly what my guest this week, Brenda Winkle, and I talk about.
As well as an Energy Healer, Breathwork Facilitator and Somatic Coach, Brenda is an expert at helping others live a life which they love, allowing them to move through their days with more freedom, ease, and joy.
And who doesn't want some of that?!
Join us in this conversation where we discuss:
🌟 How to prioritise yourself
🌟 The steps to navigating change
🌟 The power of Support
🌟 Living a yes filled life
🌟 The importance of healthy boundaries
Brenda shares such wisdom on these topics as well as lots of practical takeaways. I'm sure you'll enjoy this conversation as much as I did. 💛For more on Brenda:

On today’s Thursday Thoughts, Lucy and I are talking about learning and growth mindset.
Having a growth mindset means that we understand that our abilities can be developed, and that we can actually get smarter. Unlike a fixed mindset that keeps us stuck, believing that our level of intelligence and capability is set in stone from birth, and determines what we can or cannot do.
More than anything, we want to keep learning and growing. Success doesn’t necessarily depend on how ‘intelligent’ someone is - it’s often far more important to be persistent, determined, resilient, and to never give up. That’s how we actually make sh*t happen.
We hope you’ll find something useful in here.

This week I chat to Caroline Kopp, a master Pilates trainer and health coach, about her personal story of overcoming chronic fatigue and pain through Pilates.
Pilates literally changed Caroline’s life as it allowed her to move in a way that maintained and and even increased her energy levels without the burnout associated with high-intensity workouts. It also helped her to become pain free.
In this episode, Caroline shares how pilates is a sustainable approach to health that can support you through the various changes your body goes through, particularly during midlife and menopause.
For many, midlife can bring a decline in energy levels and conventional wisdom might suggest that rest is the best medicine for fatigue, but Caroline challenges that notion. Instead, a consistent practice of low-intensity movements, such as those found in Pilates, can be incredibly beneficial.

Have you ever stopped to think about how you breathe? It's something we do unconsciously, around 23,000 times a day! But what if you're not doing it right?
It's thought that over 50% of us are breathing dysfunctionally and studies suggest that up to 75% of people with anxiety also have dysfunctional breathing patterns. And the truth is, even without a diagnosis, most of us could breathe better so that we can feel better.
This week's episode dives deep into dysfunctional breathing, uncovering the reasons behind it and its effects on your well-being.
Most importantly, I teach you how to identify it in yourself by sharing three simple ways to assess your own breathing.
You'll also learn what healthy everyday breathing looks like.

https://www.instagram.com/pollywarrencoaching/Tue, 16 Apr 2024 - 143 - Thursday Thoughts - Complaining
On today’s Thursday Thoughts, Lucy & I are talking about complaining.
We all love a good moan, but there’s a difference between getting something off your chest, and constantly complaining.
We all have a choice as to whether we want to be a ‘drain’ or a ‘radiator’; whether we set the thermostat in the room, or shift our state of being to the temperature of those around us.
We also have a choice about who we allow access to us. Are we surrounding ourselves with people who lift us up, or drag us down?
While it’s normal and necessary to have a good old rant sometimes, it’s important not to allow the negativity of complaining to become our norm.
We hope you’ll find something useful in here.

Did you know that heart disease is the leading cause of death globally with more women being affected than men? In the UK, one in eight men and one in 14 women die from coronary heart disease, with more women dying from it than breast cancer.
Falling estrogen levels at menopause, weight gain, high cholesterol, and increased blood pressure can all affect our heart health but the good news is that 80% of cases are preventable through lifestyle changes.
And this is something I chat to this week's guest, Michelle Routhenstein, about. Michelle is a Cardiology Dietitian, Preventive Cardiology Nutritionist, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, and Certified Diabetes Educator and is on a mission to revolutionise heart disease management and prevention. In this episode, Michelle:
💛 Encourages us to measure the risk factors for our heart health.
💛 Explains how menopause increases women’s risk of heart disease.
💛 Shares the importance of nutrition and other lifestyle measures for heart health.
💛 Breaks down some of the misconceptions about a heart-healthy diet.
This is an important topic that we all need to be aware of as we can determine how healthy our hearts are!

Imagine one day you're living your dream life – balancing a family and a career as a journalist. Then, the next day, everything changes. You find yourself in a wheelchair, your legs seemingly useless.
That's the reality Kim Rahir faced. An autoimmune disease, later diagnosed as MS, turned her world upside down. But Kim refused to let it define her.
Kim's story is more than overcoming adversity. It's about fighting back – not just to walk again, but to become a European Masters weightlifting champion!
This episode is a powerful exploration of resilience. It's about finding strength in the face of hardship, focusing on what you can control, and setting seemingly small goals that have a huge impact.
Kim's journey is a powerful reminder that age and illness are challenges, not limitations. It's a lesson in living life to the fullest, no matter what life throws your way.

“Our ultimate sense of well-being is often found at the place where fulfilment and contribution meet.”
This Quote is take from Rachel Lankester’s book ‘Magnificent Midlife’ and sums up brilliantly the story of this week’s podcast guest Kali Hamerton-Stove.
In her late forties, Kali and her friend Melissa Murdoch founded the inspiring social enterprise, The Glasshouse, which offers second chances through horticultural training to women based in UK prisons.
Through growing and nurturing houseplants, which are then sold, the project helps and supports women in the months before and after release.
🌱As well as the practical horticulture skills, hanging out with plants has some amazing benefits for people involved in the project - as it can for everyone!
This episode is a story about finding a passion in midlife, believing in yourself and realising that you’re never too old to try new things and make a positive difference.

In this conversation, Lucy and I talk about things that we’ve manifested into our own lives, as well as our thoughts around what we need to do in order to bring those things to fruition.

If you’re trying to make a change or cultivate a new habit, you need accountability. And that is exactly what Lucy and I are talking about on this week’s Thursday Thoughts.
Having accountability has been a game changer for both of us. We are each other’s accountability buddies in business, and I also had a fabulous accountability buddy when I first started getting up at 5am a few years ago. Had it not been for her, I simply would not have stuck to it.
Whether you hold yourself accountable by posting about a goal on social media, hiring a coach, or simply checking in with a friend every day, you are waaaaaaay more likely to do the damn thing when you’re being held accountable.

Imagine, amidst the tsunami of midlife challenges (perimenopause and teenagers are definitely up there) you also had to navigate a cross-country move, care for a sick parent and handle an ADHD diagnosis for your child. That's a lot, but perhaps not uncommon.
Now, imagine receiving news that shatters your world - a tumour, the size of two fists, nestled in your chest. This is the reality Jude Marwa faced.
Jude's story is more than just surviving. It's a miraculous journey of transformation, resilience and inner strength.
And in this week's episode of MENOMORPHOSIS, Jude takes us on a raw, intimate journey through her battle with mortality, sharing the tools she used to navigate the darkest moments and emerge into the light, stronger and wiser than ever. You'll hear:
💥 Jude's raw reaction to facing her own mortality
💥 Discovering unexpected reserves of strength in the face of adversity
💥 Using powerful tools for navigating stress, fear and uncertainty
💥 Finding laughter and joy amidst the bleakest landscapes
💥Embracing the unknown with hope and trust
💥 Emerging from the darkness with a renewed appreciation for life and its possibilities
Jude's story is one which will stay with me and is a powerful reminder that even in the depths of despair, you can find moments of joy and laughter. It's a testament to the immeasurable strength and resilience we hold within, and a beacon of light for all of us navigating the complexities of midlife.

On today’s Thursday Thoughts, Lucy and I are talking about purpose.
We all have a mission on our heart, something we’re passionate about whether it be big or small. But are we following it?
I once heard somebody say that the opposite of depression isn’t happiness, it’s purpose. And when you think about it, we all need something that gives our lives meaning and direction.
In this conversation, Polly & I talk about what purpose is, why it’s important, and what we can do to find it. So whether it’s baking cakes for friends, starting a charity, or setting up a candle making business, ask yourself what lights you up, and start taking baby steps towards it…
We hope you’ll find something useful in here.

Stuck on a treadmill of "just okay"? Every day feels like pushing uphill, the finish line forever fading. Happiness shimmers like a mirage, tauntingly out of reach. Sound familiar?
Midlife, and especially perimenopause, can twist everything we thought we knew. Hormones shift, priorities tumble, and the world feels like a chaotic carousel.
But here's the good news: true joy is closer than you think! And it doesn't require endless striving or chasing external validation.
That's where this week’s guest, the brilliant Caroline Britton, comes in. She's not just an author and intuitive coach, helping leaders, entrepreneurs and public figures to live a life of freedom, purpose and joy…. She's also cracked the code to unlocking true joy, even when the world feels like a chaotic carousel.
Caroline confesses to once being the queen of "doing," constantly hustling and chasing external validation. But after a period of total burn out, she realized that true happiness lies not in achievements or accolades, but in connecting with who she truly is at the core. And that’s where the magic happens!
Caroline's journey is one of radical transformation and in this week’s episode of MENOMORPHOSIS, we explore how to:
✨Ditch the need for external validation.
✨Shift from "doing" to "being."
✨Face your fears and step outside your comfort zone
✨Release control and embrace the unknown.
✨Tap into your intuition.
I know you'll love this conversation as much as I did. It's a powerful reminder that midlife is not a sentence, it's a chance to rewrite your story.
So get ready to be inspired to unlock the magic within you!

Did you know that men have a hormonal cycle that lasts 24-hours whereas women's hormonal cycles last approximately 28 days?
This biological difference is often overlooked, yet it has a profound impact on how we experience work, stress and success.
Women's bodies are designed to ebb and flow in sync with their cycles. This cyclical nature is not a weakness; it's a source of strength and resilience. Yet, in a society that glorifies hustle and busyness, we often ignore our bodies' natural rhythms, leading to burnout and exhaustion.
Imagine a world where success aligns with your natural rhythms, where rest isn't a luxury but a powerful tool for growth. This is the vision of Olivia Heine, an NLP & Sacred Success Coach who is revolutionizing the way women approach productivity and success.
Olivia's method, "Working Like a Womb-an," is based on the idea that women can achieve remarkable success by honoring their cyclical nature.
Her approach is grounded in ancient wisdom and modern techniques, and it is tailored to each woman's unique rhythms and well-being.
There is so much juiciness in this episode including:
🎙️How external expectations contribute to burnout
🎙️How Olivia transformed burnout into a thriving business
🎙️ The symptoms of not working in sync with your natural rhythms
🎙️ The four main phases of a 28-day cycle and how to harness their power
🎙️The power of the 'Show, don't tell' approach
🎙️The importance of using therhythm of rest to create a consistent flow in your life
🎙️How to navigate cyclical living even without a monthly cycle

Migraines are often dismissed as mere "bad headaches," but they are far more than that. This debilitating condition affects over 1 billion people worldwide, with women being three to four times more likely to experience them than men.

Menopause will affect half of the population, though so many of us are unprepared and don’t know what to expect, it’s not just hot flushes!
Let's not forget, menopause can indirectly affect the other half of the population too: partners, family, friends and colleagues so how we talk about menopause has to change.
And this is why this week's guest, BAFTA winning animator and director of ForMed Films, Emma Lazenby, embarked on a mission to use animation to educate people about the early stages of menopause (perimenopause) and created her new film "Cycle of Change."
She did this in collaboration with long-time campaigner for education around menopause, Diane Danzebrink, and Nurse specialist Hazel Hayden.
Extensive research, including surveys, workshops, and in-depth interviews with women at various stages of menopause has been condensed into the 5 minute film!
I loved this conversation and I think you will too!
Tune in to discover:
🌼 How Emma's experience in animation lead her to create animated films for health education
🌼 Why Emma wanted to make Cycle of change
🌼 The importance of telling real-life stories in people's own voices
🌼 The key takeaways she learnt during her research for the film
🌼 How Emma's own experience of menopause coincided with the making of the film

Today, Victoria is not only an author but also a speaker, using her platform to advocate for and raise awareness about women's health, with a particular focus on menopause. Her journey is a testament to her strength, resilience and ability to inspire.

My guest this week is Menopause Warrior Debs Wallbank. At 40, Debs had reached her career goal, she'd fulfilled a personal goal to travel around Australia and was happily married.
But less than 3 years later, her marriage began to disintegrate. She lost multiple jobs and then her home. She hit her lowest of lows.
But now just 2 years later, she's happier than she's ever been!
Today Debs realises that it was menopause that broke her but she also believes it has been the making of her.
Debs is now proud to share her own experiences to support and empower others.
In our conversation together Debs vulnerably shares her story, which I’m so grateful for because by sharing these stories, we are not only removing the stigma of menopause but we're also raising awareness of some really important issues, particularly in Deb's case, the importance of education about HRT.For more on Debs:

Did you know that around 1 in 8 women will develop a thyroid disorder in their lifetime? Among these, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, an autoimmune condition affecting the thyroid, is the most common.
Interestingly, Hashimoto's and perimenopause share some similar symptoms, and perimenopause can even trigger thyroid issues.
This week, I chat with Dr. Krista Coombs, a specialist in helping others dealing with autoimmunity, including Hashimoto's thyroiditis. She's been practicing Chinese medicine for over 20 years and functional medicine for the last ten.
Dr. Coombs herself was diagnosed with Hashimoto's when she hit perimenopause. She dealt with fatigue, weight gain, brain fog and depression. But she decided to take charge of her health and made some important changes. She revamped her diet, adjusted her lifestyle and got a handle on stress – and it worked wonders.
In our chat, you’ll discover:
🎙️ Dr. Coombs' Hashimoto's journey
🎙️ How perimenopause can play a role in triggering Hashimoto's
🎙️ Telling the difference between hypo-thyroidism and Hashimoto's
🎙️ How to distinguish perimenopause from Hashimoto's
🎙️ Solid advice for those battling autoimmune issues
🎙️ The importance of tuning into your body, making lifestyle tweaks and managing stress for better health
🎙️ The significance of changing your health narrative and truly believing in your ability to achieve optimal well-being, no matter the circumstances.
If you're dealing with Hashimoto's, any other autoimmune challenge or perimenopause, I definitely recommend tuning in to this episode. Dr. Coombs' story is truly inspiring, and her tips are like a roadmap to a healthier you. She’s here to offer hope and guidance for anyone ready to take control of their health journey and unlock their full potential.

Menopause is commonly associated with midlife or older age, but it's essential to recognize that Premature Ovarian Insufficiency (POI) can affect a significant number of younger women.
Roughly one in every 100 women under 40, one in 1,000 women under 30, and one in 10,000 women under 20 experience this condition. POI refers to menopause occurring well before the average age, and it's something that our guest this week, Dr. Hannah Short, personally experienced.
After suffering from debilitating pre-menstrual symptoms and endometriosis her whole adult life and trying pretty much everything she could to help with the pain, Hannah felt her only option left was to have a total hysterectomy, leading to premature surgical menopause when she was 35.
Hannah's journey through premature surgical menopause has had a profound impact on her work, driving her passion to improve the lives of others facing similar challenges. As a GP and accredited specialist in menopause and premenstrual disorders, she offers valuable insights into these conditions.
In this episode, we delve into:🎙️ Hannah’s early experiences of endometriosis
🎙️ The symptoms and causes of endometriosis
🎙️ PMS and how it differs from PMDD
🎙️ Hannah’s personal experience of surgical menopause
🎙️ What a hysterectomy entails and its hormonal implications
🎙️The challenges of replacing hormones when transdermal and oral HRT don't work

Do you have a wardrobe full of clothes but find yourself wearing the same old outfits day after day or feel like you’ve got nothing wear?
With so much on your plate at this stage of life, it's easy to lose touch with your own identity, as you've been prioritising everyone else's needs before your own. When we're overwhelmed with tasks and obligations, we tend to gravitate towards comfort and familiarity, opting for outfits that require minimal thought or effort.
And perhaps your body shape has changed more recently and so the clothes you have no longer feel comfortable or fit properly. It can then become difficult to figure out what best suits you as you don't want to dress like you did when you were twenty, but you still want to look and feel good for the age you are now.
Well, don't worry, because I've got stylist Michelle Barrett as my guest this week, and she's here to help!Michelle, with her 24 years of experience, has helped countless people make the absolute best of their colouring, style and shape. She's an expert at building wardrobes that make people excited to get dressed each day.
So, if you're tired of wasting money on clothes you never wear and feeling uncertain about what works for you now, then this episode is perfect for you. We cover a lot of ground, including:
🎙️ Why what you wear is important (it's not just about looking good!)
🎙️ How to create a wardrobe that effortlessly mixes and matches
🎙️ Saving time and money when shopping for clothes
🎙️ Discovering the colours that suit you best
🎙️ Dressing to make the most of your body shape
🎙️ The number one mistake many of us make
🎙️ The concept of a capsule wardrobe and how it can revolutionize the way you dress
🎙️ The negative impact of media and societal narratives

https://www.instagram.com/pollywarrencoaching/Tue, 04 Jul 2023 - 61 - #59 Menopause Whilst Black with Karen Arthur
Menopause is a transition that every woman experiences, not just the tired-looking, grey-haired white woman that often takes the spotlight in somewhat gloomy stock photos used by the media.
The experience of menopause is universal, regardless of ethnicity, yet symptoms and risk factors can differ for women of different backgrounds, such as those who are black or Asian.
Up until recently, UK black women haven't been represented in the menopause conversation. Thankfully, that's starting to change thanks to Karen Arthur, who I talk to in this week's episode.
Karen is a fashion designer, menopause diversity campaigner and host of the ground-breaking podcast Menopause Whilst Black.

This week on the podcast, I speak to Dani Binnington. At just 33, Dani had three daughters under the age of four when she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. At 39, Dani had her ovaries removed, finding herself in a surgically onset menopause by the time she turned 40.
Dani’s story is filled with valuable insights and a genuine understanding of the emotional and physical challenges faced during cancer and a medically induced menopause.
Today Dani is a nutrition coach and yoga teacher and her business, Healthy Whole ME, provides support to charities and to people affected by menopause and cancer.
She has her own podcast - The Menopause & Cancer Podcast - and also works with healthcare professionals to improve understanding and care.
If you are a cancer survivor or are undergoing treatment, if you know someone who is a Cancer Survivor or is undergoing or about to have treatment, I am sure that Dani’s experience and realism will be a source of inspiration, guidance and comfort.
Join us in this conversation where we chat about:
🎙️Dani’s journey from her diagnosis to her current plans

How many times do you walk into a room and completely forget why you went there in the first place? Or maybe you’ve struggled to find the words you wanted to say. Or perhaps you’ve missed an important appointment because you forgot all about it.
If these situations resonate with you, rest assured that you're not alone. Many women encounter these everyday challenges because brain fog is a well-known symptom of perimenopause and menopause.
Going through your day with your brain not quite firing on all cylinders, finding it difficult to concentrate, focus, or think with the same sharpness as you used to be able to, can be not only frustrating, but also embarrassing.
Brain fog can disrupt your productivity at work, lead to a loss of confidence and instil a fear of more serious illnesses such as early-onset Alzheimer's, when in reality, it's most likely tied to the hormonal changes happening in your body.
In this episode, I chat to Dr Sabina Brennan who is a psychologist, neuroscientist and host of the Super Brain podcast. She is also a best selling author and her latest book, Beating Brain Fog, has lots of practical strategies to support and tune up your brain.
Join us in our conversation where we dive deep into brain fog including:🎙️ What brain fog is and how it can affect your day to day life
🎙️ What causes brain fog and why it's so common at perimenopause and menopause
🎙️ What we can do to improve brain fog
🎙️ How we can we look after our brains

As we transition through menopause, we realise that our bodies start to behave differently, especially when it comes to exercise. Quite often, what used to get us results in the past, no longer seems to work, which ultimately affects our quality of life.
So I’m thrilled to have Dr Maria Luque as my guest this week, as she is an expert in fitness and menopause, with over 20 years of hands-on fitness experience and a decade dedicated to studying menopause.
Dr. Luque, a former US Air Force Fitness Programme Manager, holds a PhD in health sciences and has conducted extensive research on the effects of physical activity on the quality of life during the menopausal transition.
Alongside her role as a fitness expert, health science professor, education content developer, and busy mother, she is also the founder of Fitness in Menopause, a company focused on helping women navigate the challenges and rewards of menopause.
During our conversation, we cover a range of topics, including:
🎙️ The biggest challenges faced by women during perimenopause
🎙️ Incorporating movement into everyday life without the need for a gym
🎙️ Finding joy in physical activity
🎙️ Tips for getting started after a period of inactivity
🎙️ The benefits of strength training as we age
🎙️ How strength is something we can all achieve

https://www.instagram.com/pollywarrencoaching/Wed, 07 Jun 2023 - 57 - #55 6 Steps To Empower Yourself For A Positive Perimenopause experience
It's very easy to feel like things are spiralling out our our control as we go through perimenopause. With so many changes going on physically and emotionally, life can feel chaotic.
Add into the mix a visit to a doctor who doesn’t give you the answers you so desperately need, it's hardly surprising that many women are feeling anything but empowered as they go through this stage of life.
So in this episode, I address this ‘out of control feeling’, this feeling of disempowerment and discuss how we can feel more in control and how we can empower ourselves during our experience of perimenopause.I share 6 steps I’ve learnt along the way as well as some of the mistakes I’ve made and what I’ve learnt from them including:
🎙️The importance of educating yourself and being informed
🎙️How to be your own advocate and an active participant in your health care
🎙️ Knowing when to seek support
🎙️ The power of adopting a positive mindset
🎙️ Why making time for yourself is essential
🎙️ How focussing on personal growth is the key to feeling empowered

https://www.instagram.com/pollywarrencoaching/Wed, 31 May 2023 - 56 - #54 To HRT or Not HRT with Kate Organ
HRT is talked about a lot when it comes to menopause and it can be a really difficult decision whether or not it’s right for you.
In my opinion, HRT complements all the other things you're doing to manage your menopause; it’s not a magic pill, although for some it literally can be a life saver.
The most important thing you can do is GET INFORMED so that you can make the right choice for you.
Don’t rely on what you think you know or what someone else has told you, because you are unique and will have your own experience of menopause. What’s right for your friend, mother, sister may not be right for you.
So I was delighted this week to speak to HRT expert, Kate Organ, who is a British Menopause Society registered Menopause Specialist, founder & consultant pharmacist of The Menopause Specialists.
As a consultant clinical pharmacist she has expert knowledge in the way that HRT works, how it is processed by the body and its risks & benefits.
This week's episode will give you the facts and answer some of the questions you may have about HRT including:🎙️ How to know if you’re perimenopausal or not
🎙️ When blood tests are helpful
🎙️ The benefits and risks of HRT
🎙️ The different types of HRT and how to decide which type of HRT is right for you
🎙️How to know which dosage is best for you
🎙️ What testosterone helps with and when to consider asking for it
🎙️ How long you should stay on HRT
🎙️ How to know when you’re post menopausal when you have a mirena coil
🎙️ What to do when you’re told you’re too young for HRT

https://www.instagram.com/pollywarrencoaching/Wed, 03 May 2023 - 52 - #51 How Breathing Efficiently Can Improve Menopause with Dr Louise Oliver
If you suffer with daytime sleepiness, unsatisfactory sleep or have been told that you snore, then there is a good chance that how you breathe isn't as efficient as it could be.
This is important because how we breathe affects our health and well-being and can particularly affect us during perimenopause and menopause.
Studies show that the menopausal transition is significantly associated with an increased likelihood of having sleep-disordered breathing as hormones affect how we breathe.
So I was delighted to be joined this week by Dr Louise Oliver, a GP of 20 years, a functional breathing practitioner and therapeutic life coach.
Louise has had an interest in women's health and menopause for many years and now incorporates her skills as a functional breathing practitioner to help women breathe more efficiently.
Join us in this conversation where we discuss:🎙️ How breathing is an important piece of the puzzle when it comes to managing peri/menopause
🎙️ What sparked Louise's interest in learning more about breathing
🎙️ What effective and efficient breathing is
🎙️ What happens when we’re not breathing properly
🎙️ How hormones affect our breathing
🎙️ How to know if you’re not breathing effectively at night
🎙️ The importance of nasal breathing
🎙️ What you can do to help yourself breathe more efficiently
🎙️ The power of the autonomic nervous system and how the way we breathe affects it
🎙️ How disordered breathing can affect weight gain
