An unreached people group includes people that are least-reached people with the gospel. A group of people are unreached when they have few or no believing Christians and resources to evangelize each other. In other words, an unreached people group will not hear the gospel unless someone from the outside of their people group comes to declare God’s wondrous works to them. Therefore, we must be ready to go to the unreached peoples and tell them about Jesus Christ’s redemptive work, or else they perish (2 Thessalonians 1:5-9, John 3:36, Revelation 20:15).

You must have encountered churches in Kenya that do weekly deliverance services, either across the street or on some TV channel. Week in and week out, the pastors of these churches are usually caught up in battles with demons and dark forces. Members of the congregations of these churches will be either screaming, falling or rolling on the ground in response to the man of God’s ferocious commands. However, if one was to observe closely, it is often the same people being delivered repeatedly. But what is the goal of these services, their genuineness and the biblical stance?

God has identified himself using the masculine gender more in the scripture. Recently there have been issues on the gender of God, with the church of England seeking to consider this matter, changing the Bible, and using a gender-neutral pronoun for God. “God is not a he”. That’s what gender theorists claim. God’s pronouns are they/them, we’re told. After all, God has no gender as a spiritual being. He’s three persons in one: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. That’s a plurality of persons. Furthermore, “Elohim”—the ancient Hebrew word for God- is plural. Doesn’t all this evidence signal a reason to change how we refer to God? Should we abandon he/him and adopt they/them?

There has been significant abuse of religious freedom in our country, Kenya. Currently, we are battling with the sickening issue of Shakahola. Paul Mackenzie, now captured, brainwashed so many people with a false version of Christianity, leading to their death. The followers believed that fasting to death would unite them with their maker. Due to the brainwashing, Paul Mckenzie’s church members could not question why the pastor and his family were not fasting. Additionally, the congregants rejected any assistance and preferred to continue with the bizarre practices. Sadly, this is the case with many people around the country, especially those with undying allegiance to the so-called ‘men of God’. Let us look at some issues that may be wreaking havoc in our churches today.

After high school, you only ask for fare when you want to do errands for your parents. Once you get to campus or university, be ready to pay for your luxuries while in session. Oh, and just before graduation, you need to have a clear plan for employment (it doesn’t matter how difficult things are). After this is done, and you finally land a casual job or an attachment, please send something home. It does not matter whether you are being paid or not – let alone how much the pay might be. While this might not be the standard in every home, it represents many Kenyan homes. Consequently, how do we approach this matter as a joyful experience, not a bothersome, manipulative, or imposed exercise?

Consider what a church is supposed to do according to scripture. A church is to regularly gather (Hebrews 10:24-25) to hear the word preached (Acts 2:42), to sing (Colossians 3:16), to pray (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18), to give towards the Lord’s work (Acts 2:44-45, 4:32-37), to evangelize (Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 1:8) and to practice the sacraments of baptism (Acts 2:41, 8:12 and the Lord’s Supper (1 Corinthians 11:17-34). In addition, covenanted members dwell together while lovingly caring for one another (1 Corinthians 12:12-26), even through brutal practices such as church discipline (Matthew 18:15-17).

But recently, I’ve noticed a massive emphasis among Christians on praying that casts out, binds, and calls down fire from heaven to burn Satan and other problems. This practice is built on the presupposition that Jesus gave believers authority and power over spirits, principalities, and heavenly beings. Thus the believer is encouraged to bind and cast whatever stands in the way of their progress or prosperity. Then, through prayer, they call down heavenly fire against Satan and those spiritual beings in league with him. But, unfortunately, casting and binding don’t seem to be the primary shape of most biblical prayers.

The mark of spiritual maturity that all saints should exhibit is living their lives for the glory of God and not the praises of men (1 Cor. 10:31). Men’s applause only last in this life. But living for God’s glory means that God is the focus. Why do you do the things you do? Is it so that men can see God? Jesus called out the Pharisees for loving men’s praises more than God’s (John 12:42–43). Ask yourself if your relationships, work engagements, friendships, and other life interactions are consumed more with what you want or what the bible says.

Modern secular culture, defined in a simple phrase, would be the “authority of self.” Authority of self in that I do what feels best and makes me the happiest. We hear phrases beating this mantra, saying, “do what makes you happy.” We also hear people saying “YOLO” (You Only Live Once) and other phrases such as “self-love.” These popular phrases are just repeating the authority of self-belief systems. Authority of self seeks to make you believe that nothing or no one is more important than yourself. It seeks to shift all your attention to who you are; based on that, you have all the power within to do all you want to do if only you can look deep down within. It is a push towards self-worship and elevation of pride that “you are self-made, self-direct, self-determine.”.

In simple terms, evangelism is proclaiming the gospel's good news. Whose work is evangelism? Was the command in Matthew 28:17-20 only for the disciples? In the same way that the Bible instructs us to recognize false prophets, so must we also discern in relationships: we judge by fruit (Matthew 7:15-20). If a man or woman claims to be a Christian, it is their Christlike character or lack thereof that we must judge them by, and nothing else. Seek out for the pursuit of Christlikeness, not perfection.

Over the past few years, we have seen many professing Christians recanting their faith, claiming that it does not make sense anymore. Lately, there has been hardly a day without an item on the local news about abuse and violence amongst family members. Categories of family abuse include both gender-based violence and child abuse. A finger-pointing attitude may have begun in our lives when as little children, we’d blame Satan for provoking us to steal mommy’s sugar — to which most of our parents would gladly respond, “Okay, we’ll cane ‘Satan’ then,” but this sinful reaction boasts its roots much farther back in history.

But these often proved futile, leaving man yet in need of a perfect mediator who would make acceptable and eternal intercession.

We may want to ask ourselves if masturbation truly satisfies the deep longings that most people who do it have. Masturbation, being the idol it is, only leaves people empty, ashamed and guilty. Idols of the heart are things that we value in our lives in place of God. They will usually tend to make impressive promises of satisfaction only to disappoint, yet they still entice.

Kenyans are doing this Great Commission. We need people to support monetary wise. Born again, men and women need to start seeing how to plough into the missionary enterprise. Young people with the call for missions need to arise and, by faith, take up the challenge and preach Jesus to the lost tribes in Kenya. Missionary work is not a white man’s job.

In Kenya, among the trending shows on YouTube is the Loyalty Test. In the videos, the show hosts interview dating couples and ask them to exchange their phones to test their loyalty to one another. Each then checks out the messages, calls, photos, or anything that may be a pointer of loyalty or disloyalty. In most cases, the show is characterized by drama as individuals get violent upon finding out that their partner is disloyal.

The makers of the show believe that they are ‘sanitizing’ society by exposing people who cheat in relationships. What do we learn from the loyalty test craze?

Whenever it is said that Christianity is the only true religion, many things can come to people’s minds. Some can assume that Christianity is true to its followers because it brings them a sense of peace, purpose and happiness. Christianity certainly does these things for those of us who follow Jesus as Lord of our lives. However, this allegation would not be based on truth in as much as it is not entirely false. Christianity is true because it is based on objective truths grounded in reality. Christianity makes factual claims about fundamental things such as who we are as human beings, who God is, and how we relate to God. A religion that cannot truthfully answer these questions is false, not because it fails to give one peace of mind, but because it makes unverifiable claims.

Martin Luther and modern-day evangelicals believe that grace is an entirely free gift. Whatever you get because of your work can never be called a gift; that is a wage. You got paid for it because you worked for it, but grace once again is not earned as a result of your good deeds. To further explain grace, you, for example, show grace to an offender when you choose to forgive, not because they asked or are remorseful, but simply because you showed them mercy. Many scenarios cause guilty feelings. Guilt can haunt us, and we wish we could go back and change things. If you feel guilt like this, it is essential to ask yourself if it is true guilt or false guilt? True guilt is when I have offended God through some sinful or willful action. False guilt is when we have not offended God, and there is nothing you can do to change the situation.
