But first some thoughts and news..Will Morgan Wallen beat the all-time Hot 100 No. 1 supremacy: Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus. It was number one for a record-breaking 19 weeks in 2019. Morgan is on his15th non consecutive week at number one. Love to see it, so exciting for country music… He almost broke the internet last night as fans in Ohio started posting about Morgan’s bald head! Lol..
But can you really blame him? It is so hot and most of his shows are open air.
That has to be brutal...

Sat, 12 Aug 2023 - 31min - 70 - Texas Country Music: Stetson Walker: Conversations w/a Texas Gentleman
THIS INTERVIEW WAS CONDUCTED IN THE BEGINNING OF COVID19.
Chris Stapleton, and I've seen the future of country music, and his name is Stetson Walker! This Texas Troubadour's wistful. baritone, and soulful twang is catapulting his latest single up the Texas charts.
Stetson draws from a deep well of country music tradition. He is a 9th generation Texan, and is an honorary Texas Ranger.. His mother was a regular on the Grand Ole Opry where she sang as part of the Jim & Jesse band.
His grandfather is cited as one of the first musician's to bring bluegrass to the great state of Texas. Stetson's latest release reads like a who's who in country songwriting including a song from mega star Chris Stapleton.
Stetson counts several of Willie Nelson's band members among his friends, and after you hear this interview, you'll be a friend too!
A multi-instrumentalist, he's shared the stage with Tracy Byrd, and Mark Chesnutt among others.
Check out the interview, and get to know this fine Texas Gentleman, who is a true testament of old school country tempered with thoughtful lyrics, and session level playing chops.
Stetson will not be a secret for long. Don't sleep on this one. This train is building up steam, and ready to roll. I've seen the future of country music, and his name is Stetson Walker.

This is such a cute story. Texas is getting two new species of grasshoppers. They were recently discovered by researchers in the Lone Star State. They have been named after Texas country music legends Willie Nelson and Jerry Jeff Walker. Dubbed Melanoplus nelsoni and Melanoplus walkeri, the famously named grasshoppers were found in Central Texas. How cute!
There is also a new country music show on the horizon!
Texas Hot Country is the name of the show, and focuses on the international popularity of country music with a focus on insider stories of the songs, and the legendary artists, and new artists that are putting country music on the map.
It will be hosted by Leon Beck of Gilley’s fame. Mr. Beck says “Country music is real music. It touches the heart and the soul and often times captures the story of one’s life.” Amen to that. We will keep you posted on when to watch, and how..

there is an emerging narrative that country music is making a comeback. Which is an optimistic point of view. What I think we are seeing, and hearing is that old school rock, R&B, and pop from the 90s has found a home in today’s country music, and the people that enjoyed the music back then have made the switch too.
Case in point, the top two age brackets in country music right now are 45-54 at 20% of total listeners..
If you do the math, music listeners in that age group would’ve been in their 20s in the 90s right?
Yes, and I saw that the second largest group at 18% are between 35-44. They would’ve been grade schoolers, and middle schoolers in the 90s. Hello! At 17% are 25-34. Which is still pretty strong.
These stats were reported by Billboard, and the data is from the Country Music Association.
So again, if you grew up listening to a little hip hop, Bon Jovi, and BabyFace, you’ll probably find some music you’ll like in country right now..
Talking about good music, we have some new songs to share with everyone today...

With over 10k listeners across platforms, Our goal is to share new music you may have not heard yet..
We always kick things off with noteworthy news from the longhorn state.
Big news from the Texas Country Music Hall Of Fame as Famed 80s singer/songwriter KT oslin will be inducted. It is posthumously as KT passed on in a nursing home in 2020. She charted four number ones, and a total of 17 songs on Billboard. KT was a 3 times Grammy Award winner.
The Country Music Hall Of Fame’s American Currents State Of The Music is live. This is an annual exhibit where the hall of fame explores a broad view of country music’s current trends. Broad is the right word as the exhibit includes Americana, folk, classic artists as well as current billboard country charting artists.
This year they’ve included several artists with Texa area roots like Miranda, Lainey, Cojo, and Jordan Davis among others. For more info go to country music hall of fame dot org.
Lastly, On May 13th, 2023, the LBJ Foundation honored Willie Nelson with its most prestigious award, the LBJ Liberty & Justice for All Award at a gala dinner at the LBJ Presidential Library.
Lyndon B. Johnson’s daughters Luci and Lynda Johnson presented Nelson with the award.
In attendance, and performing some of Willie’s top songs were Eric Church, and Lyle Lovett among others. How cool is that. I love it when artists are recognized with these epic awards while they are still alive. I think that’s what Tanya Tucker’s comeback album While I’m Living was all about.
Allright, well let’s dig in. This show is a solid mix of current country music styles , and honky tonk country. First up is The Broken Spokes!. I just love it when we can play a straight up honky tonk song that is new, and good. It’s nice to see there are some keepers of the flame still out there. Let’s hear Moved Into A Bottle.

Do you think it’s true that Garth did not send Willie a birthday gift? Hmm, Willie just turned 90, and had a big weekend shin-dig at the Hollywood bowl. And Dolly, umm said I know you are doing that GOAT thing to Garth. Lol..Yes, she said she thinks it stands for Garth Organize A Threesome.. Dolly, Dolly, Dolly...

These songs really show that traditional leaning country music is alive and well. It makes me so happy. And many of the sounds are highly stylized. In other words, you really hear the authenticity, while there is still a discernable reverence for those that came before.

Ryan's music is a tip of the hat to the greats of the rockabilly scene like Johnny Cash, Elvis, Roy Orbison, and the undisputed Honky Tonk King Hank Williams. But it's not all fun, and games as /Ryan, who is a strong songwriter takes a firm stand on social issues on "Tired of Hurtin'. At only 20 years of age, one can only imagine how the passage of time will shape Ryan's music even further. His debut Far Away Rose is a must. Don't sleep on this one..

Mon, 21 Feb 2022 - 1h 11min - 44 - (TYG) Texas Young Guns- The Joey Greer Interview
The Joey Greer Interview
Y'all know we are always with our ears to the ground for awesome emerging artists.
The Texas Young Guns Series is a special podcast dedicated to the AMAZING talent we keep coming across from the longhorn state! But you know, we realized some of the amazing music we were hearing wasn't always traditional country, and thought what a shame not to bring it to y'all.
In our #StoneColdCountry radio show, we have a feature called the #TexasSixPack. It's the most popular segment of our show. In the TSP, we always include a wide variety of music that we feel is worthy of your ears. With the Texas Young Guns, we decided to do the same, with the hopes of bringing attention to emerging artists 30, and under that are creating, recording, and performing good quality music.
Our inaugural episode features a young artist from Nacogdoches, Texas who has already amassed over 1million views on Tik Tok, and over 200K views on YouTube.
He also has one of the most versatile, and emotionally rich voices we've heard .
We're talking about Joey Greer! Joey was singing in his local church, and studying to become a doctor before he decided to dive into a professional music career.
Joey started writing, and playing before he was a teen. His love for music, a trait handed down to him by way of his parents. In our almost hour long conversation,
we find out about his first broken heart, which caused him to write one of our favorite songs. We also get to know what keeps Joey moving forward, and what truly matters.
In the end, we find that Joey is a small town boy with a big talent, and an enormous heart. Give it a listen, and don't forget to follow Joey across social media.

Mon, 14 Feb 2022 - 50min - 43 - The Moe Bandy Interview
With over 50 years in the country music industry, Moe Bandy is no rodeo clown! You can’t be a clown, and make it in the music business. “The Texas Music Hall of Famer took time to speak to#OnTheBrink: A podcast about country music, and life to talk about his latest album “A Love Like That”.
The album boasts an original penned by Leona Williams,, who has had an amazing career of her own, most notably for her songwriting credits with the late great Merle Haggard. There are several stand out tracks such as “It’s All Over Town”, and “City Lights”. However, it is “You Can;t Stop a Heart From Breaking” that takes us to the undeniable hard country sound that Moe is famous for. The song is brilliant, and points to milestones reached in the world such as a man walking on the moon, and talking over the internet. But sadly, we can’t stop a heart from breaking, despite life-changing innovations.
You would be sadly mistaken, if you think the road to the top was paved with roses for Moe. One can only imagine the heartbreak felt when you tally the loss of friends in country music to alcohol, and disease among other things. Moe himself battled with the bottle, but made it to the other side with the help of strong family support, and faith.
When the legend looks around today, he is still hopeful, and full of great memories, and wise advice. For example, Moe feels one way to unite people is to accept our flaws, and failures as human beings, and to learn from your mistakes. Moe further shares that loving where you are from is unifying. It’s a point of view coming from someone whose weathered many storms, and has lived to tell. This sentiment goes beyond small town pride, it’s american pride served up with a genuine love for people.
Show host Sana Mello says “the interview was inspiring. Moe is a living testament to staying productive, and relevant at any age. That’s the kind of message, we can all use right now..”

Sun, 02 Jan 2022 - 56min - 41 - Country Music-The Elijah Ocean Interview
New traditional country from neotraditionalist Elijah Ocean. In this deep dive interview, we talk about his latest album Born Blue, which is an impressive nod to 80's, and 90's country. Who can write a song about talking to an ice machine, and make it sound as earnest as a Sunday Choir? Elijah spins tales of heartbreak, loneliness, and regret in the decidedly honky tonk tradition, where we two step our pain away.
Why is Elijah not in Texas? Based in Nashville for now, Elijah can be found playing from California to Nashville, and parts in between. He is a songwriter's songwriter, and takes much inspiration from his own life. For the traditional country music fan, there is much to like about Born Blue. It will keep you dancing, and maybe feeling a little bit better about the one that got away. Get to know why Elijah Ocean's latest album is a step forward for traditional country.

Wed, 27 Oct 2021 - 1h 12min - 37 - The Bernie Nelson Interview
Traditional country music is alive and well in the pen of multi platinum songwriter Bernie Nelson. The artists that have recorded his compositions read as a literal who's who in country music. Fri, 22 Oct 2021 - 1h 08min - 34 - Gold: The Ray Scott Interview
Touted as one of the modern day troubadours keeping traditional country music alive. Ray has gone through the proverbial Nashville hell, but lived to tell. His music is heartfelt, honest, and real. Welcome to the July 2021 edition of Stone Cold Country’s#onthebrinkpodcast. As we’ve often stated we like to keep our ear close to the ground when it comes to traditional forms of country music. In this edition of the podcast we were honored to connect with Merle Monroe’s CMA nominated Tim Raybon.
The band is a joint project between Tim, and Daniel Grindstaff. East Tennessean (Go Bucs) Daniel is an accomplished musician who made his Grand Ole Opry debut with Jim, and Jesse when he was just 18! He also played in Marty Raybon’s bluegrass band thus beginning a life long friendship with Tim.
Tim along with his brother the founder of the Grammy Award winning band Shenandoah, found success together as the Raybon Brothers earning a gold single with the song titled Butterfly Kisses which also earned a CMA nomination.
When you put all this talent together, what do you get? A perfect blend of Merle Haggard emotive song stylings, and the meticulous virtuoso level playing of Bill Monroe. The product is Merle Monroe- a band that marries old school country, and bluegrass with a fresh spin perfectly nestled in Americana as it is in Country Folk, and Bluegrass.
With a couple of number ones under their belt already, a collaboration with Mo Pitney, and a nod from the International Bluegrass Music Awards the future looks very bright.
Anna Marie, my co host and Admin at Stone Cold Country and I had the opportunity to sit down and chat with Merle Monroe’s force majeure vocalist Tim Raybon. Here are the results of that conversation.

Mon, 12 Apr 2021 - 41min - 27 - The Addison Johnson Interview Part One
Addison Johnson might be our modern day working man's poet. His songs are about loss, life, and getting through are honest, and direct. But it might be his story songs that give anyone with a set of ears, and good taste an escape from the every day, same ole world we dredge in day in, and day out.
Sitting through Addison's latest album "Dark Side of the Mountain" transports the listener to a Chevelle full of drugs, and on the move. Then to a neighborhood bar where you tousle with a bottle of Jack. And we hear about a body sitting at the bottom of the Cumberland River. It's good stuff, and we talk about it. He also gives some advice on lures, bait, and his favorite fishing spot. A must listen for fans of good country music.
