Man tries to rape woman in Bronx apartment stairwell  A man tried to rape a woman in the stairwell of her Bronx apartment building on Friday evening, police said Sunday as they released new surveillance video of a suspect. The 33-year-old woman was walking up a stairwell at her apartment building in the Fordham Manor section around 7 p.m.  The alleged attacker grabbed the woman from behind and began to unzip his pants, police said. But the woman bit his hand before the encounter escalated any further and he fled the scene. The woman was not hurt, but was taken to the hospital for an evaluation, police said.

Actor Dearon 'Deezer D' Thompson dies at 55" Dearon “Deezer D” Thompson, the actor who portrayed nurse Malik McGrath on the beloved NBC medical drama ER, has died at the age of 55.  On Friday, news broke that the actor had passed on Thursday, January 7, after being found unresponsive at his Los Angeles home. It is believed Thompson died from a heart attack, though an official cause of death has not yet been disclosed. Happy hypoxia is one of the physiopathological characteristics of Covid-19 that has most baffled the scientific and medical community.

For a normal person, the blood oxygen saturation level (the amount of hemoglobin carrying oxygen) is around 95 percent or more. Hypoxemia is a condition in which the blood saturation levels drop below 94 percent.

Patients with blood oxygen levels below 90 percent, which is considered too low, may experience symptoms like shortness of breath and chest pain. 

They may need oxygen therapy. If blood oxygen levels continue to fall, their organs may shut down, which could be life threatening. However, despite low blood oxygen levels, some Covid-19 patients do not feel any symptoms and feel fine, until eventually, they collapse. 

This unusual phenomenon gave rise to the term “silent hypoxemia” or “happy hypoxia.”

 Patients with this condition often suffer a sudden imbalance, reaching a critical state that can be fatal.

Researchers and doctors have been trying to understand the causes of happy hypoxia in Covid-19 patients.

Now, researchers from the University of Seville in Spain have come up with an explanation for the condition.

They say that infection in carotid bodies by SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for the pandemic, may be the cause of the decreased blood oxygen levels in many Covid-19 cases. 

Carotid bodies are sensory organs located on either side of the neck next to the carotid artery. 

They detect the drop in blood oxygen and send signals to the brain to stimulate the respiratory centre.

In their study, detailed in the journal Function, the researchers suggest that infection of this carotid body by SARS-CoV-2 in the early stages of the disease could alter its ability to detect blood oxygen levels, resulting in the silent drop in oxygen in the arteries.

They have also found a high presence of the enzyme ECA2, the protein the coronavirus uses to infect human cells, in the carotid body.

The hypothesis support the use of activators of the carotid body independent of the oxygen sensing mechanism as respiratory stimulants in patients with Covid-19.

Back on 17 October 2012, Michael was in great form as he belted out his greatest hits to an adoring audience at a packed London’s Earls Court.

The cheering crowd yelled for more as the polished performance came to an end, with Michael telling them: "Thank you London, I love you. See you soon."

Yet despite the singer's plans, the show would ultimately be the legendary performer’s last live gig.

"You have made the last night perfect," saluted Michael, after the Earl’s Court show.

"It has truly been a privilege to play with these musicians for the last year and we want to say a big thank you to you all.

"London, I love you so much. Sorry for making you wait to hear that; I hope it’s been worth the wait. Take care of yourselves."

When he spoke, Michael was scheduled to take his 75 date Sympohinca tour to Australia following packed-out concerts in Europe and London.

But those proposed gigs were cancelled and the former Wham! frontman, who sold more than 80 million records worldwide, went on to struggle badly with his health in the years leading up to his death.

Michael suffered from a series of medical problems throughout his life and, in 2011, he was put into a temporary coma having contracted pneumonia.

He underwent an emergency tracheotomy operation to help him breath, with the serious concern that he not be able to ever sing again.

Then in May 2014 the singer suffered a “mystery collapse” at his home 

Michael died peacefully at his home in Goring-on Thames, Oxfordshire just before 2pm on Christmas Day.
