Tue, 12 Jul 2022 - 20min - 68 - PETER REID
Player-managers aren't really a thing in football anymore. Back in the mid-1990s, when on the hunt for a new boss, Manchester City promoted tough-tackling midfielder Peter Reid to the dugout while he was still a member of the first team squad. With limited experience, Reid took the bull by the horns and got the Blues playing some excellent and entertaining football - until he was later replaced by Brian Horton and went on to resume his playing career elsewhere. He spoke to the Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney in 2011.

Mon, 11 Jul 2022 - 11min - 67 - UWE ROSLER
When he was signed by Manchester City, Uwe Rosler was an unknown quantity. Having taken a chance on him, the club were repaid with exciting forward play - and a blossoming partnership with Paul Walsh for the striker at Maine Road. But as the Blues went through turbulent times, Rosler could never re-capture his early form and help save the team from slipping out of the top two divisions. He spoke to the Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney in 2013 to go through his time with City - and what it was like as a German in England in the 1990s.

Mon, 11 Jul 2022 - 17min - 66 - RAE INGRAM
It's perhaps every Manchester City fan's dream to represent the club - but very few actually get the opportunity. Rae Ingram is one of an elite club who have managed it. He came through the ranks with the Blues in the 1990s, but was never really able to hold down a regular place in the side. After moving on from Maine Road, his career was cut short by two serious illnesses - as he suffered both Meningitis and suspected ME. The Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney has been speaking to the former defender to get his memories of his playing days.

Sun, 10 Jul 2022 - 14min - 65 - STEVE DALEY
How difficult is it to be a player with a big price tag? It's a feeling that ex-Manchester City midfielder Steve Daley knows all too well - he couldn't settle at Maine Road after his £1.4m English record transfer from Wolves, in 1979. The Observer newspaper later dubbed him "the biggest waste of money in football history" after his spell ended with him failing to establish himself with the Blues. He spoke to the Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney about the pressure he was under to deliver the good - and how things seemed to just get harder and harder.

Sun, 10 Jul 2022 - 7min - 64 - RICHARD EDGHILL
Some players end up on the receiving end of stick from supporters for no real reason. In 2000-01, Richard Edghill was the unfortunate player who copped for far more criticism than his displays deserved, as Manchester City struggling in the Premier League. He was a club stalwart - having scored a remarkable penalty in the 1999 Division Two play-off final and been with the team through thick and thin before it. The Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney caught up with the former City defender in 2013 to get his memories of his long career at Maine Road.

Sat, 09 Jul 2022 - 19min - 63 - JOE CORRIGAN
Manchester City fans can recognise that, down the years, the club has had a long string of successful and legendary goalkeepers. Joe Corrigan came through the ranks at Maine Road in the late 1960s, going on to establish himself as the team's Number One as the club went on to domestic and European success. He's the player with the second-most number of appearances for City, behind only Alan Oakes, pulling on the goalkeeper jersey almost 600 times across 16 years. The Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney caught up with him in 2012.

Sat, 09 Jul 2022 - 10min - 62 - ADIE MIKE
Born in Manchester, Adie Mike grew up in the city before joining the youth academy - then the Centre of Excellence - at Platt Lane. He progressed to Manchester City's first team in the early 1990s, but failed to nail down a regular spot despite scoring a couple of Premier League goals in his 16 appearances. After leaving football, he branched out into becoming a personal trainer and studying law - as well as founding a private jet company. The Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney caught up with the former striker to find out more back in 2014.

Fri, 08 Jul 2022 - 6min - 61 - TREVOR SINCLAIR
Growing up, most Manchester City fans will have harboured dreams of playing for the club. For the vast majority, those dreams remain just that - but for Trevor Sinclair, they became a reality. Signed by Kevin Keegan in 2003, he had a four-year spell at Eastlands, which featured ups and downs - including a couple of Manchester Derby goals. The Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney caught up with the former City winger to discuss his time at the club and get his memories of playing under both Keegan and his replacement, Stuart Pearce.

Fri, 08 Jul 2022 - 9min - 60 - KEITH CURLE
There are some names that go hand-in-hand with the captaincy of the club. When you say "iconic Manchester City skipper", one of those names that will spring straight to mind is Keith Curle. Signed from Wimbledon in 1991, the defender quickly proved a hit at Maine Road for his tough tackling, ability to play from the back and his leadership. He would later return with Wolves after being sold following City's relegation from the Premier League in 1996. The Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney caught up with the former City centre-back to get his memories of that time.

Thu, 07 Jul 2022 - 14min - 59 - GARRY COOK
Often seen as something of a comic character, few can really deny that Garry Cook had a big influence on Manchester City. Never far away from the headlines, the former CEO was instrumental in bringing Sheikh Mansour's investment to Eastlands - as well as signing several players that would go on to lead the club to glory under Roberto Mancini. However, he was forced to resign after a scandal over emails he had sent over the seriously ill mother of Nedum Onuoha. The Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney had a full and frank chat with the ex-CEO in 2015.

Thu, 07 Jul 2022 - 20min - 58 - WILLIE DONACHIE
Despite being very much a Scotsman, Willie Donachie began life as a footballer in England with Manchester City. He came through the ranks a tough-tackling, no-nonsense defender, eventually breaking into the team in 1970 - having been around the first team set-up since the late 1960s. After a glittering career with the club as a player, he'd later return as part of Joe Royle's backroom staff and became a key figure in the club's rise back to the Premier League after years in the doldrums. He spoke to the Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney in 2017.

Tue, 14 Jun 2022 - 21min - 57 - JON MACKEN
Who scored the winning goal in the most exciting FA Cup comeback in the competition's history? Of course, Manchester City fans will have no hesitation in saying Jon Macken - his header in the closing stages secured a 3-4 win with Kevin Keegan's ten-man City side at White Hart Lane, when they'd been 3-0 down at half time. His career with the Blues was very stop-start, as injuries curtailed his appearances - but he certainly made an impact in some important matches. The Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney caught up with him in 2011.

Tue, 14 Jun 2022 - 7min - 56 - PAUL MOULDEN
After retiring, Manchester City's current stars won't have to worry too much about how they'll pay the bills. However, for generations in the past, that wasn't the case - and for Paul Moulden (pictured here playing for Oldham), who was with the Blues for five years until 1989, it was a surprising change of direction. After hanging up his boots in 1999, the striker - who had broken records at youth level before joining City - moved into the fast food industry, opening Paul's Chippy. The Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney went to sample his fish and chips.

Mon, 13 Jun 2022 - 8min - 55 - GARETH TAYLOR
Brought in to help Manchester City's promotion push from the third tier in November 1998, Gareth Taylor found himself in the midst of a third play-off final of his career at Wembley. Having lost twice already, Taylor came off the bench with the Blues 1-0 down in the closing stages - and he must have felt it was going to be three on run when Gillingham scored their second moments later. However, Taylor and the rest of the team fought back to win on penalties. He's given his memories of that era to the Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney.

Mon, 13 Jun 2022 - 16min - 54 - JAMIE POLLOCK
A quick YouTube search will find one of the worst moments of Jamie Pollock's football career. With City battling to stay in Division One in the penultimate game of 1997-98, he scored what's been dubbed "the best own goal of all time" - intercepting a pass and heading the ball over his teammate in goal, Martyn Margetson. The then-captain, though, didn't shirk responsibility - he played a big part in City's back-to-back promotions from Division Two, as the team returned to the Premier League in style. In 2020, the Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney spoke to him.

Sun, 12 Jun 2022 - 30min - 53 - TONY VAUGHAN
Tony Vaughan was coming through the ranks at Manchester City when he moved to Ipswich as a youth player. It was there that he made his senior debut - before transferring back to Maine Road in 1997. He was part of the City side that dropped to the third tier and played a role in the club's resurgence under Joe Royle, coming off the bench in the 1999 Division Two Playoff Final. In 2013, the Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney caught up with the former City defender to get his memories from that afternoon against Gillingham - and find out more about his career.

In winning the League Cup as manager of Manchester City in 1976, Tony Book became the first ever footballer to lift that particular trophy as both a player and a coach, having previously captained the Blues to success in the competition. 'Skip', as he was known to those around the club, was a key figure in revolutionising what happened on the pitch and Maine Road, both in his time as club captain and as manager of the first team. The Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney caught up with the former player and boss to discuss his time with the Blues.

Sat, 11 Jun 2022 - 12min - 51 - DAVID BERNSTEIN
When Manchester City needed a strong head in the boardroom, David Bernstein was the man who came to the fore. Able to get a tight grip on the club's finances and bring everything back in order before it spiralled too far out of control, he was the chairman that oversaw City's stabilisation and return to the top flight. However, his resignation hit the club hard when he and manager Kevin Keegan hit a disagreement over transfer policy. The Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney spoke to the former chairman about that - and his time at the helm at Maine Road.

Boxers are well renowned for their walk-on music. It's often used as a way to pump themselves up before a big fight or to lift the crowd to get the adrenaline flowing in the arena. Ricky Hatton, famously a Manchester City fan, would walk into the ring to Blue Moon - and he always fought wearing his blue shorts and gloves, too. He named his dog after a club legend and has been a regular at Maine Road and the City of Manchester Stadium for years. The Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney went to his gym in Hyde to speak to Hatton about his love for the Blues.

When Mark Hughes was appointed City manager in the summer of 2008, he brought with him his backroom staff from his previous role at Blackburn Rovers - and that included his assistant manager, Mark Bowen. It was a turbulent time, as the club was close to administration before Thaksin Shinawatra sold it to Sheikh Mansour during their first season at Eastlands. In 2020, the Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney spoke to the former assistant to find out what went on behind the scenes during that time - until the pair were sacked in December 2009.

Fri, 10 Jun 2022 - 40min - 48 - BRIAN HORTON
"Brian who?" the tabloids screamed when Manchester City appointed the former Hull City and Oxford United manager to take charge of the team. But even in his short spell at Maine Road, Brian Horton quickly showed the critics what his footballing ideas were - he transformed the Blues into an all-out-attack unit, providing exciting performances week after week. However, a leaky defence was his undoing, and the club struggled for consistency during his reign. The Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney spoke to Horton in 2011.

However, when Stuart Pearce became Blues boss, he signed Flowers as his goalkeeping coach - allowing him to look after the likes of David James, Nicky Weaver and, briefly, Joe Hart. The Blue Moon Podcast's Sam Roscoe spoke to the former shot-stopper in 2015 to discuss what it was like coming into Pearce's coaching set-up and what it was he saw in Hart that made him persuade the Blues to go all-out for his signature.

Thu, 09 Jun 2022 - 8min - 46 - CHRIS BIRD
The boardroom at Manchester City in the late 1990s and early 2000s was a fascinating insight into the turmoil going on at the club. While things on the pitch appeared to be going fairly smoothly, as the club bounced back from their lowest ever point in the third tier and back to the Premier League, behind the scenes there was tension and division. In 2019, David Mooney spoke to the former Chief Operating Officer to discuss what was happening at board level at the club at that time - including the divisions the transfer of Robbie Fowler caused.

Following the takeover of the club by Thaksin Shinawatra in 2007, Sven Goran Eriksson was appointed boss - and a whirlwind summer saw a plethora of new signings. The manager masterminded a first Manchester Derby double in over three decades and enjoyed cult hero status at Eastlands. The cup-winning strike was extra special, coming against his hometown team. After retiring from playing, he became a director at Maine Road - and he was heavily involved in the decisions to bring both Joe Royle and Kevin Keegan to the dugout. In 2011, he spoke in-depth to the Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney about his career as both a player and as a businessman with the Blues.

Tue, 07 Jun 2022 - 23min - 42 - JOE ROYLE
It was February 1997 when Manchester City turned to Joe Royle to try and stop their slide down the leagues. Unable to keep the Blues in Division One, Royle went on to rebuild the club - earning back-to-back promotions in dramatic style in 1999 and 2000, getting City back to the Premier League as soon as he possible could have done. Without his influence as a manager in the late 1990s, who knows where the club would be today. The Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney spoke to the ex-boss to discover more about his time in the dugout.

Mon, 06 Jun 2022 - 33min - 41 - GEERT DE VLIEGER
It's not easy to be a number two goalkeeper. Each week of the season goes by knowing that you're going to be understudy to the club's first choice - but that you have to be in top form and your best shape because you might be needed at a moment's notice. Geert De Vlieger joined City under manager Kevin Keegan and spent a short spell as back-up to David James. In 2016, he spoke to the Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney about the move over to Manchester and a rather serious injury he sustained while at the club, following that transfer.

Mon, 06 Jun 2022 - 10min - 40 - DAVE CONNOR
You often hear players described as a "utility player" - someone who can fill in and do a job when the main left back or the regular right winger isn't available. With squad football, it's less of a problem - but back in the 1960s and 1970s, it was more common. Dave Connor made 141 appearances for City and, in that time, he played in every position on the field, apart from goalkeeper. He was part of the team that won promotion from the Second Division and then went on to the Division One title in 1968. He spoke to David Mooney back in 2010.

When he first arrived, in 1989, he enjoyed a 5-1 win over rivals Manchester United at Maine Road - before being sold to West Ham after just three months. He returned to Joe Royle's City side in 1998, as they battled the drop to Division Two. Bishop would go on to be a key figure in City's return to the Premier League, and he explained all to the Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney.

Sun, 05 Jun 2022 - 20min - 38 - FRANK CLARK
In the late 1990s, Manchester City were in crisis. Following relegation from the Premier League in 1996, they were unable to bounce back to the top flight at the first attempt. Following Alan Ball's resignation, Steve Coppell, Phil Neal, and Asa Hartford all briefly held the position of manager. In December 1996, City appointed Frank Clark to try and halt the slide down the leagues. In his short spell in charge, he wasn't able to put the brakes on - David Mooney spoke to the former manager in 2013 to discuss what went wrong during his time in the Maine Road dugout.

The 6ft 8in Romanian was back-up for two seasons, before new boss Manuel Pellegrini upgraded him to first choice in the autumn of 2013, to provide a kick up the backside for regular number one Joe Hart. There are often interesting stories about what former footballers have gone on to do later in life. Perhaps one of the most famous is that of Lee Crooks, the ex-Premier League full-back who went on to join the army, serving in Afghanistan. He came through the ranks at Manchester City in the mid-1990s, establishing himself in the team as it dropped through the divisions and climbed back to the Premier League. He was another who featured in the famous win at Wembley over Gillingham in 1999. He spoke to the Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney.

Signed from Bury in 1966, Bell went on to make almost 500 appearances for the Blues in a 13-year period. Part of one of the club's most devastating attacking lines, along with Francis Lee and Mike Summerbee, Bell's career was cruelly cut short due to injury - he was never able to recapture the form he had previously showed. Niclas Jensen, during his season-and-a-half at Maine Road, was a solid left back option for Kevin Keegan's Manchester City. However, he's most remembered for a wonder strike in a home win over Leeds in 2003. Manchester City have often been dubbed the comedy club for their ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Nothing is too weird for the Blues to have done and it's why the fans have always needed a dark sense of humour - even when it's looked like times have been good, in more recent years. Comedian Jason Manford, a City supporter himself, has made it his life laughing at the world around him, so targeting the club he's a fan of is something that comes naturally. Of course, City were in the third tier and United were in the Premier League - so they weren't really competing with each other at that stage. It's still an exclusive club to be a member of. Mon, 30 May 2022 - 28min - 26 - KIT SYMONS
For a spell, Kit Symons thought he had scored the goal that had kept Manchester City in the Premier League. His equaliser on the final day of 1995-96 against Liverpool at Maine Road seemed to be enough to secure survival - but duff information had reached the dugout. That 2-2 draw was still sending City down, and their time-wasting had been problematic. Symons was at City during one of the most difficult spells - which included managerial changes and two relegations. The Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney spoke to the former captain in the summer of 2020.

Sun, 29 May 2022 - 26min - 25 - SHAUN GOATER
There are heroes and then there are heroes. For a generation of Manchester City fans, Shaun Goater was the go-to man to represent the club. Originally, though, supporters didn't take to him - believing him to be a lower-league slogger rather than the man to spearhead their return to the big time. How wrong they were, as The Goat scored with damning regularity at all levels of the game for the Blues. David Mooney spoke to the Bermudan twice for the Blue Moon Podcast, both times in 2013, to discuss his career and iconic status at Maine Road.

Sun, 29 May 2022 - 30min - 24 - JEFF WHITLEY
There are plenty of stories of footballers suffering with addiction problems, but there is none quite as shocking as Jeff Whitley's. While he was playing at Manchester City, he was a chronic alcoholic and hooked on drugs - to the point where his nights out would spill over from after the match to taking place pretty much all week. In a stark and brutally honest interview with the Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney, the former midfielder explains how he got to the point of waking up and wanting to die - and how he overcame his addictions to get his life back on track.

Fri, 11 Mar 2022 - 36min - 23 - MIKE RIGG
When Mark Hughes became Manchester City manager in 2008, he appointed Mike Rigg as his technical director, a role that was being created at the club. At the time, Premier League scouting networks were still fairly new - and it was Rigg's responsibility to make sure that the players who were being put forward to join the club were the right fit, both on the pitch and off it. In 2020, the Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney spoke to him about the role - including how it changed when Hughes was sacked and Roberto Mancini came into the dugout instead.

Thu, 10 Mar 2022 - 36min - 22 - ANDY MORRISON
After a troubled stage in his career, Andy Morrison moved to Manchester City from Huddersfield as the club had sunk into the third tier. A fiery character, the Scot was just what the Blues needed to give them leadership in one of their toughest seasons - and City were just what Morrison needed to get back on the right track. Described as "a bit of a bully" by Joe Royle, Morrison captained the team back to the Premier League from Division Two. He spoke to the Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney about his career and the flashpoints in his life that sparked his temper.

Wed, 09 Mar 2022 - 33min - 21 - KIKI MUSAMPA
When Kevin Keegan needed to freshen his squad up in the January transfer window of 2005, he brought in a pacy winger from Atletico Madrid on a half-season loan. Kiki Musampa impressed, with some key goals in the run-in that almost saw the team qualify for the UEFA Cup, under new manager Stuart Pearce. Musampa returned for 2005-06 on a season-long loan. In 2019, he spoke to David Mooney about his time at Eastlands - and about his experience of the racial abuse that black players suffer in football.

Tue, 08 Mar 2022 - 11min - 20 - DAVID BRIGHTWELL
Throughout the 1990s, there was a batch of Manchester City graduates who made their way into the first team that fans were able to feel a connection to, largely because they were from the local area. A pair of brothers, Ian and David Brightwell, were in that bracket. In 2018, David Mooney caught up with David to discuss how he made the journey from youth football in the local leagues in Congleton all the way up to City's first team - and the influence of having an older brother already playing for the club when he first arrived.

Mon, 07 Mar 2022 - 42min - 19 - NICOLAS ANELKA (short)
When Manchester City returned to the Premier League under Kevin Keegan, the manager wanted somebody who would be able to lead the line and score the goals that wouldn't just keep his side in the top flight - but someone who would secure them a top half finish. The boss broke the club's record transfer to bring in centre-forward Nicolas Anelka, after he'd been on a loan spell at Liverpool the year before. David Mooney spoke to the striker in 2019 to discuss his time at the City of Manchester Stadium for the Blue Moon Podcast.

Fri, 04 Mar 2022 - 4min - 18 - MICHAEL BROWN
Often seen as a Premier League journeyman, Michael Brown started his career in England with Manchester City, coming through the ranks in the mid-1990s. He is one of a handful of players to have been sent off on their debut for the club, ten minutes after coming off the bench against QPR in 1995. He played under several City managers, featuring in the 1999 Division Two play-off final, before being moved on the following year. Never far from controversy, the former City midfielder spoke to the Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney.

Thu, 03 Mar 2022 - 16min - 17 - DANNY TIATTO
If you were to ask Manchester City fans to name the most ill-disciplined player of the last 20 years, there is a strong chance they'd come up with the name Danny Tiatto. A tough-tackling defender or midfielder, the Australian was known to dance close to the line - often crossing it into red card territory. Nevertheless, he also weighed in with important goals throughout his time at City. In 2018, he spoke to the Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney to discuss how he ended up joining the club - and how that reputation for a red card followed him throughout his career.

Wed, 02 Mar 2022 - 24min - 16 - GERARD WIEKENS
Every club has their Mr. Dependable. For Manchester City in the late 1990s, that man was Gerard Wiekens. He excelled in the club's 1999 promotion season, before settling in comfortably at either centre-back or centre-midfield in the team that won back-to-back promotions to the Premier League. It culminated in perhaps his highlight at Maine Road - the final Manchester derby there, as he marked his fellow countryman Ruud van Nistelrooy out of the game. The Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney travelled to the Netherlands to meet up with the former defender.

Tue, 01 Mar 2022 - 34min - 15 - GARY OWEN
It was a whirlwind start for Gary Owen at Manchester City. His escalation from being a fan of the club and playing in schools football to representing the Blues at Maine Road and becoming a first team regular was swift. He quickly settled into the midfield and became a fans' favourite - but he fell victim to Malcolm Allison's clear-out when the former coach took charge in the late 1970s. Despite his popularity, he was moved on to West Brom. He spoke to the Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney about his time at Maine Road and talked through some of his hidden talents.

Mon, 28 Feb 2022 - 9min - 14 - DAVID JAMES
Mention the name of goalkeeper David James to any football fan and there's one incident that nearly always crops up in conversation. Chasing a winning goal on the final day in 2005, rookie manager Stuart Pearce sent his goalkeeper outfield and played him as a centre-forward. It's unfair to remember James as the goalkeeper that happened to, given his illustrious career - and in 2021, the Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney spoke to the former City number one to find out more about his career before, during and after his move to Manchester.

Fri, 25 Feb 2022 - 54min - 13 - DENIS LAW
There aren't many players who can be a club legend at Manchester United and still be held in high regard by Manchester City fans. While he didn't enjoy the same success at Maine Road as he did at Old Trafford, Denis Law was an excellent servant to both clubs. City fans remember a back-heel at Old Trafford, on his return with the Blues, which played its part in sending United down to Division Two. The striker was reluctant to talk about that when he met up with the Blue Moon Podcast's Sam Roscoe to discuss what it's like to play for both sides of Manchester.

Thu, 24 Feb 2022 - 6min - 12 - STAN HORNE
Stan Horne joined Manchester City in the 1960s, to play his part in the great Joe Mercer and Malcolm Allison team. In 1968, he won the First Division title with the club - but hadn't played enough games to automatically qualify for a medal. In 2020, the Football League announced they were falling into line with the Premier League by reducing the threshold to five games, meaning Horne would now get his honour - more than 50 years after winning the title. The Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney spoke to him soon after the news broke to find out how he was feeling.

Wed, 23 Feb 2022 - 13min - 11 - PAUL DICKOV
Some goals will never be forgotten. Manchester City's equaliser at Wembley in the Division Two play-off final in 1999 is one that goes down as perhaps the most important in the club's history, as Paul Dickov's strike in the 95th minute saw the Blues claw back from 2-0 down to draw. Forever a cult hero at City, the feisty Scot had two spells with the club - rejoining in 2006, as a much-changed City battled for Premier League survival. The Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney spoke to him over two interviews - the first in 2010, and the second in 2014.

Tue, 22 Feb 2022 - 21min - 10 - LEON MIKE
One of Manchester City's long list of academy graduates, Leon Mike made several first team appearances for the Blues under Kevin Keegan - however, his playing time was limited due to the impact of Shaun Goater and Paulo Wanchope. The striker moved on in 2002, as City were promoted back to the Premier League. He spoke to the Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney about the frustrations he had in trying to break into the first team and how things had changed for young players these days compared to when he was coming through the ranks.

Mon, 21 Feb 2022 - 9min - 9 - DANNY MILLS
Signed on a free transfer from Leeds, Danny Mills played at right-back for Kevin Keegan and Stuart Pearce's Manchester City until the emergence of youngster Micah Richards. Often criticised by the fans, Mills saw out his deal with the Blues until he retired in 2009, following unsuccessful loan spells. His one and only goal at Eastlands was a memorable effort in a 2-0 win over Everton, as he thumped the ball home from long range. He spoke to the Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney about his time with the club and explains why he chose to shoot that day.

Fri, 18 Feb 2022 - 11min - 8 - EYAL BERKOVIC (short)
One of Kevin Keegan's first signings at Manchester City was Eyal Berkovic. The playmaker was part of the manager's exciting, attacking team that went on to win the Division One title in 2002 - scoring more than 100 goals in the process. Berkovic was also key to City's European qualification the following season, forming a brilliant relationship with the team's other attacking players. In this very brief interview in 2019, David Mooney talked to the Israeli creative midfielder about his time at Maine Road and one of his most memorable goals for the club.

Thu, 17 Feb 2022 - 2min - 7 - STEFFEN KARL (translated)
When in need of some midfield security in the mid-1990s - to stave off the threat of relegation - former City manager Brian Horton turned to a holding midfielder from Germany. Steffen Karl arrived on a short loan in 1994 from Borussia Dortmund, joining his fellow German Uwe Rosler at Maine Road. The loan wasn't made permanent and so Karl moved on after a handful of games - and one goal, a winner against Southampton at The Dell. In 2020, the Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney spoke to the former midfielder - his answers in the interview are translated.

Wed, 16 Feb 2022 - 9min - 6 - NICKY WEAVER
The story of Nicky Weaver's Manchester City career couldn't be more of a rollercoaster. From the highs of saving penalties in the Division Two play-off final in his first season, to the lows of almost having to retire with a very serious knee injury just over three years later, Weaver's time was never dull. An experimental and career-saving operation was to follow, before he returned to first team action in 2006 - fighting to take the number one jersey back. The Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney travelled to meet the goalkeeper in 2013.

Tue, 15 Feb 2022 - 54min - 5 - KEVIN HORLOCK
Everybody remembers who scored the goal that equalised against Gillingham at Wembley in 1999, just as they remember the scorer of the winner against QPR in 2012. But, just as Sergio Aguero's effort wouldn't have been possible without Edin Dzeko's header, Paul Dickov's strike would never have happened were it not for Kevin Horlock's 90th minute goal in the Division Two play-off final. A stalwart of the Manchester City midfield for several years, Horlock spoke to the Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney to discuss his time at Maine Road.

Thu, 20 Jan 2022 - 33min - 4 - MICHAEL BALL
Michael Ball's two-and-a-half seasons at Manchester City saw some of the biggest changes the club would ever go through. He arrived in Stuart Pearce's final season - where the team scored only 10 goals at home all year. He was then part of the team managed by Sven-Goran Eriksson, after the takeover by Thaksin Shinawatra in 2007 - before playing his final season at the club under Mark Hughes, after the next takeover by Sheikh Mansour in 2008. The Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney spoke to the former defender in 2020 about his City career.

Thu, 20 Jan 2022 - 43min - 3 - JOEY BARTON
For many Manchester City fans, Joey Barton is the man who was sent off for elbowing Carlos Tevez in the club's 3-2 win over Queens Park Rangers, when Roberto Mancini's side went on to snatch the Premier League title in 2012. Undoubtedly a man with a history of troubles in the game, Barton came through the ranks at Maine Road, breaking into City's team under Kevin Keegan in 2003, before going on to become a regular in the side. He was never far from controversy throughout his career - and he spoke to the Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney about it all.

Thu, 20 Jan 2022 - 25min - 2 - DARREN HUCKERBY
As Manchester City battled against relegation from the Premier League in 2001, Joe Royle sought to add more firepower to his squad. From Leeds United, in came Darren Huckerby - a pacy centre-forward with an eye for a goal. Injury meant he wasn't able to play a crucial role in that end of season fight, but he came back better than before as Kevin Keegan's new-look City romped to the Division One title in 2001-02. Huckerby was a key part of that team, which scored bags of goals on their return to the top flight. In 2019, he spoke to David Mooney about his City career.

When Joe Royle wanted to freshen up his goalkeeping options in the 2000-01 season, he turned to someone who had been making waves at Stockport County. Carlo Nash had played well in his appearances against the Blues and he was brought in to rival Nicky Weaver for the number one jersey at Maine Road. However, as City were relegated to and then promoted from Division One, Nash found himself as the club's number two - behind veteran goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel. The Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney caught up with Nash to get his memories of that era.
