Wed, 31 Jan 2024 - 14min - 322 - AFCON conversation with Andre Arendse
Over quarter of a century on, South Africa’s 1996 iconic Afcon triumph remains the high point for Bafana Bafana. This monumental victory, however, remains our only triumph in the tournament’s history. The team had only played together for a short period, with world football governing body Fifa lifting SA’s expulsion from the international stage in 1991 as the racist system of apartheid was finally abolished. The Springboks’ world-conquering victory in the 1995 Rugby World Cup had given the team buoyancy. They felt they needed to maintain the high spirits of the country following the 1994 elections, as well as that iconic Bok triumph. The Boks did it again just a few months ago. Can Bafana do it again? Time will tell, but for now, a man who was there in 1996, who knows what holding that trophy aloft means, is here with us and he’ll tell us if the current generation can go all the way and emulate the class of ‘96. Andre Arendse everyone….

Doctor Khumalo, Teboho Moloi and Edward Magents Motale Now you got to agree either way me on this one, 2023 was certainly a standout year as far as sports is concerned in our country. More highs than lows hey! Definitely a year that will long live in the memory of South Africans as an unprecedented year of breakthroughs and success for South African sport and on the creative and artistic front. And how crazy and fitting that we reflect back on a year that was today as we all celebrate that holiday, hey, you remember it? Friday, 15 December 2023, a National Sports Day Celebration, following the Springboks’ record-breaking fourth Rugby World Cup title victory, President Cyril Ramaphosa declared 15 December 2023 a public holiday. Remember it? We won the rugby world cup. Hosted a successful netball world cup. Banyana Banyana did exceptionally well in the Fifa Women’s World Cup. From hockey to football, to swimming, athletics. It seems winning on the track as a thing of the past for us and I'm certain you just as disappointed as me that the team came back from Budapest without any gold medal. What's going on? Fri, 01 Sep 2023 - 42min - 274 - Romaney Pinnock, SAFA head of women’s football chats to Marawa
What a month August has been, my goodness, absolute thriller of a month, for women by women. Banyana Banyana’s heroic performances at the Fifa Women’s World Cup in Australia/ New Zealand were there for us all to delight in, but I tell you what, there at a few women at SAFA, putting in the work, away from the cameras and the spotlight, to see to it our women football grows significantly. One of them is none other than SAFA's Head Of Women Football, Romaney Pinnock and my word, her CV reads like that of a movie script. A FIFA Master in the Management, Law and Humanities of Sport, an MSc with a focus on Ecotoxicology from the University of Siena, and a Medical Honours and BSc in Genetics, both from the University of Cape Town. As well as being a Director of Badgers Football Academy, Pinnock has held the roles of COO of The Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation, Programme Manager for the Western Cape Education Department and has been a freelance strategy consultant, recently for UEFA, the University of Cape Town and the University of Zululand.

As Women's Month draws to a close, these women are constantly showing everyone that what men can do, the too can. What men can play, so can they. We know the male Bulls side to be one hell of a powerhouse in rugby, but hey, their female players are just as competitive talented and ever so passionate. In a remarkable display of rugby dominance, Bulls Daisies concluded the 2023 season in style, securing a well-deserved victory in the SA Rugby Women’s Premier Division final this past weekend. The final match, held at the Loftus Versfeld B-field in Pretoria, saw the Bulls Daisies triumph over DHL Western Province with a resounding 69-8 win, capping off a flawless season. With this triumph, the Bulls Daisies sealed their record-breaking 14th consecutive victory of the season and claimed the prestigious Women’s Premier Division trophy for the first time since 2006. Tue, 29 Aug 2023 - 50min - 268 - Attorney Mandla Tshabalala on Match fixing trial of PSL club boss and Safa referees
Top of the week and there's no such thing as a blue Monday. In what should have been an interesting trial where proceedings on the first day of the trial of eight football officials, including a PSL club owner, match officials and a former Safa official accused of match-fixing, the case has been postponed to October at the Kempton Park Regional Court after the prosecution made some amendments to the charge sheet. Solomon Makhubela, the owner and chairperson of Limpopo club Magesi FC, former Safa head of referees Peter Sejake, PSL referee Bafana Mosia and assistant referees Ernest Nyambi, Stevens Khumalo, Linos Hobwane, Shane Chuma and Peter Chauke lined up in the dock for a brief appearance. Let's get to the bottom of this interesting case.
Tue, 29 Aug 2023 - 11min - 267 - Kaylin Swart, Banyana Banyana goalkeeper on her world cup experiences, deleting social media, career and more
My guest was, without a doubt one of the most talked about players at the just ended Fifa Women’s World Cup. Every single social media platform, she trended. And for the large part of it, she was heavily criticised. Even on times where she saved our blushes, many chose to overlook all her good work and focused on the negatives. But ever the trooper she is, she held her head up high and gave it her outmost 150%. One hell of an experienced campaigner, she plays with so much passion and commitment. And you know what, she is so used to being the face of adversity it almost doesn't shake her now I'm certain. At just 15, she had to carry the shame of South Africa’s failure at the 2010 Under-17 Fifa Women’s World Cup, our poor investment in the women’s game was rudely exposed when Banyana conceded 17 goals in three games at that global showpiece. She was in goal for all three games. Fast forward to 13 years later, Kaylin Swart is still taking the stick. Suppose comes with been a goal minder. Never an easy position out there. What a pleasure it is to have Banyana goalie. Kaylin today, so much to unpack and unlock with this very underrated yet exceptional player

Thu, 17 Aug 2023 - 27min - 264 - Thembi Kgatlana Banyana Banyana striker chats to Robert Marawa
You better believe me when I say you've probably never met someone more confident than our very own Thembi Kgatlana. And why shouldn’t she be confident in herself? She pursued her footballing dreams as a child, sometimes entirely by herself, and earned roster spots on clubs around the globe. She continues to defy the odds and show the world just how insanely talented she is. Her work ethic is incredible. Her passion, my word, is there for everyone to see and embrace. So petite yet so competitive and ambitious. Her skill, such a marvel to watch. Always so mature beyond her age, what's even more incredibly beautiful about Thembi is just how she's just a genuinely nice human being. She really is. Level-headed on another level. An absolute pleasure to host our interim captain fantastic, Thembi Kgatlana...
Thu, 17 Aug 2023 - 42min - 263 - 'I was ashamed of where I grew up', Bernard Parker's inspirational story
Very few players have had such illustrious career as this man. An absolute beast in front of goal who's thrilled many of us for so long. An even better human being. And such kind of careers, it's only fair that they are documented, for us all to relieve the good times. And for the younger generation that's yet to watch him in action. He's captured the lows and highs of his very successful career in his book. Still going strong on the pitch, an absolute professional. Bernard Parker, a pleasure as always Die Hond.

Thu, 03 Aug 2023 - 18min - 257 - The latest in Royal AM case with lawyer Leruma Thobejane-Royal
This case gets interesting week by week I can tell you that. And I'm pretty sure it's nerve wrecking times for everyone involved, especially for the club and player. Latest developments? Well it's not looking too good for Royal AM because the Court of Arbitration for Sport [CAS] have thrown out their application to have their FIFA sanction overturned. You'll remember last month, FIFA put out a transfer ban to the Durban outfit after they failed to pay an amount of R12-million owed to former striker Samir Nurkovic, whose contract they had terminated prematurely. But Royal AM then submitted an appeal to CAS and surprisingly claimed the order to prohibit them from registering players had been lifted, though opposing attorney Davor Lazic argued the contrary.
Wed, 26 Jul 2023 - 14min - 256 - Ben Jacobs talks rise of football in Saudi Arabia
I tell you this for sure, the Saudis are seeking to become major players in the world of football and are not afraid of spending money to get there. The big story of this transfer window has been the rise of the Saudi Pro League as a hot destination looking to attract the biggest stars in European football, and with the Saudis, bankrolled by the $620 billion Public Investment Fund (PIF), taking the market by storm. I mean, Cristiano Ronaldo's move from Manchester United to Al Nassr in January already feels like an eternity ago and has already set the stage for what could be a lucrative exodus en masse, with Saudi officials keen to lure some of the game's biggest names over to the Middle East. Let's tap into that market and see who's already going to the kingdom, who's saying thanks but no thanks and who's still thinking about it...

Thu, 20 Jul 2023 - 5min - 251 - Robert Marawa in conversation with Janine Van Wyk, former Banyana Banyana captain
She's no stranger to milestones. And what a career she's had. What an international career for this Alberton-born who made her international debut as a teen in 2005, crossed a century of senior caps in 2014. In the decade that had elapsed between those two dates, she's had grown from an emerging talent on the periphery of the South Africa women’s national team to an accomplished leader, one whose trailblazing achievements stretched beyond the pitch. Sadly she gets to miss out on her second World Cup appearance, something that has raised some bit of eyebrows. Is she injured? Was she just dropped? Has she retired from Banyana Banyana? What really happened there? Janine van Wyk is here to tell us exactly what happened...
Thu, 20 Jul 2023 - 31min - 250 - Shauwn Mkhize offered R27m in bid to replace relegated Maritzburg United at Harry Gwala Stadium
Well, here's some positive news from Royal AM, especially given the not so pleasant publicity they've had over the past few weeks. An enticing R27m has been offered to Shauwn Mkhize’s side in a bid to lure them to replace the now relegated Maritzburg United at Harry Gwala Stadium. This offer of a sponsorship deal has been made by Msunduzi local municipality. What this means is that, if approved Royal will receive R9m annually over three years from the municipality and will use the Harry Gwala Stadium as a home venue free of charge. Now we all know, we've all seen it, Royal AM have an expensive base at their Royal Ranch in Pietermaritzburg but have played their home games in Durban, mostly at Chatsworth Stadium, since their purchase of Bloemfontein Celtic's top-flight status in August 2021. Will they take the deal? Let's get more on this developing story from...
Thu, 20 Jul 2023 - 10min - 249 - Nhlanhla Tshabalala, SAFPU Secretary General on Marawa Sports Worldwide
Banyana’s World Cup preparations on the pitch - diligent. You can't fault them now can you? Off the pitch, eish... It just seems one huge mess doesn't it? And you really don't need that mentally, going into such a major tournament as this one Their bonus situation has not been resolved, with only a week to go before they play their opening match against Sweden on Sunday. In a new development, Safa is not paying the technical team the R115 000 that was announced at the Motsepe Foundation press conference, where a R6-million bail-out was given to the association. Instead, Safa has given the technical team a revised contract, and the players and technical team are disputing the association’s new deal. Ey, like I said it all seems to be one huge mess. Let's get to the bottom of this bonuses saga.
Tue, 18 Jul 2023 - 16min - 248 - Avram Grant, Zambia national team coach chats football
My guest is one of the biggest names in world football. He has experience managing clubs such as Chelsea, West Ham United and Portsmouth. He enjoyed success in his homeland of Israel in the 1990s and early 2000s, winning four league titles with Maccabi Tel Aviv and Maccabi Haifa around the turn of the millennium. In 2002, he took over as Israel's manager and lost just six of 33 matches in charge of his country, including an unbeaten 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign. During his spell at Chelsea, he was named the Premier League Manager of the Month in April 2008. He also led the Blues to the UEFA Champions League final, where they lost on penalties to Manchester United, reached the League Cup final, and secured the runners-up spot in the Premier League. He also managed Serbian club Partizan Belgrade and the national team of Ghana, who he guided to the final of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations. He is now in charge of the Zambian national team, help me to welcome Avram Grant.
Fri, 14 Jul 2023 - 25min - 247 - Patrick Mabedi, Malawi national team coach with Robert Marawa
There's absolutely no way, and I mean no way, you'd have followed football back in the 90s and early 2000s and not know this man, let alone love him, irrespective of your club affiliation. Man what a leader. You know some people just possess those leadership qualities when you look at them. It was this lanky gentle giant. Gentle yet commanding leadership. Hard, no nonsense last line of defence. Patrick Mabedi needs no introduction guys. Absolutely none at all. What a servant of the game. An absolute legend.
Fri, 14 Jul 2023 - 21min - 246 - Zipho Dlangalala, newly appointed Maritzburg United coach speaks
I've always said this, we don't give this man his fresh flowers enough, we don't. He's played such a critical job in developing many of our players who are superstars today. He's now been roped in to develop such talent at Maritzburg United and hey, I'm not too sure what the mandate is, but I'm certain, it's straightforward, to get the Team of Choice back into the top league. Let's chat to the man himself, Zipho Dlangalala...
Thu, 13 Jul 2023 - 26min - 245 - Robert Marawa chats to Burnley FC striker Lyle Foster
I want us to tap into the ugly side of the beautiful game. One that more often than not still remains a taboo... You'll hardly ever hear industry people addressing it. People say money can buy you happiness but I tell you this ask most footballers, they'll tell you it's certainly not buying their mental health. And that's because they are not immune to mental health. Poor mental health doesn’t discriminate. Personal struggles along with performance pressure and invasion of privacy can bottle players' mental well-being. High expectations and pressure to perform are part and parcel of playing professional football, and the intense environment can easily lead to poor mental health. Coupled with the likelihood of a short playing career, it’s no surprise that footballers face a unique set of challenges that can be hard for anyone outside the game to properly understand. One player who knows this challenging condition is none other than our own English based star, Lyle Foster. And he's gonna share with us exactly what it takes to suffer and triumph over mental health.
Thu, 13 Jul 2023 - 17min - 244 - Gregory Nott — Caster Simenya's lawyer chats about her landmark legal victory
What an amazing day of sports for South Africa. Just as the golden adage, "It's not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog", suggests, there's certainly no greater testament to what Caster Semenya has endured in her life and career. Another wisdom saying that perfectly describes this phenomenal individual: Simple one, never give up. And never did she because this champion runner today won a potentially landmark legal victory when the European Court of Human Rights decided she was discriminated against by sports rules that force her to medically reduce her natural hormone levels to compete in major competitions. The ruling by the Strasbourg, France-based court questioned the “validity” of the contentious international athletics regulations in that they infringed Semenya’s human rights. But the two-time Olympic champion’s first legal success after two failed appeals in sports’ highest court and the Swiss supreme-court came with a major caveat. Amid her bid to be allowed to run again without restriction and go for another gold at next year’s Olympics in Paris, today's judgment, while major, did not immediately result in the rules being dropped. Semenya has a medical condition known as hyperandrogenism, which is characterised by higher than usual levels of testosterone, a hormone that increases muscle mass, strength and haemoglobin, which affects endurance. Victory for Caster is a victory for many who are voiceless. Let's chat more on this groundbreaking story with...
Wed, 12 Jul 2023 - 8min - 243 - Robert Marawa interview with Leslie Notsi-Lesotho Cosafa coach
Now I'm sure you'll agree with me on this kne that, there's no COSAFA Cup without Lesotho is there? I mean, Likoena have become so synonyms with this tournament for decades now and they always have incredible talent at the disposal. Talent that more often than not, ends up playing right here in the PSL. So much hunger to succeed, on and off the pitch. The players are ever humble and modest and their gaffers, absolute gentle role models to their players... Now their interim coach Leslie Notsi is that kind of a father figure. What a mentor he's proving to be to the lads and he joins us today...

Tue, 11 Jul 2023 - 41min - 241 - In conversation with Morena Ramoreboli
I tell you what, we as South Africans, we don't give this man his flowers enough, and we don't. He's so unsung in our country that it's taken a journey to Botswana for him to finally get South Africans to talk about his coaching ability, even though he had given the country a glimpse of what he can do when he led third-tier side Maluti FET College to a 4-1 victory over Soweto giants Orlando Pirates in the 2013 edition of the Nedbank Cup. This is a man who is also responsible for promoting two clubs to the National First Division (now the GladAfrica Championship), but hardly got any attention. Even though he's been at it for well over two decades now. He's just won the league with Jwaneng Galaxy out in Bots and he's leading a very youthful Bafana side at the ongoing Cosafa Cup. Morena Ramoreboli, let's catch up with him after Bafana's 1-1 stalemate with Namibia Wedneday.
Fri, 07 Jul 2023 - 27min - 240 - Royal AM case with their lawyer Leruma Thobejane
This case gets interesting day in and day out. And you know what, you and I have seen what a transfer ban does to a banned team. They do with what they have, they suffer incredibly Now Fifa, the world football governing body this week imposed a transfer ban on Royal AM, effective immediately. This decision comes after the KZN club’s failure to settle an outstanding payment of R12 million owed to striker Samir Nurkovic. Nurkovic had his contract with Royal cut short, and he took legal action over unfair dismissal. But Thwihli Thwahla have taken the matter up to CAS, with their lawyer Leruma Thobejane saying the striker does not deserve any compensation... Will they eventually pay the Serb 12 million? Let's find out more from the Royal AM camp.

Tue, 04 Jul 2023 - 45min - 237 - Former SAFA Vice President Ria Ledwaba dissects Russell Paul's return to SAFA as CEO
Another day, another major news coming in from SAFA. Remember this man? I bet you do. SAFA President Danny Jordaan's former associate Russell Paul is said to be returning to the body as CEO in the country's bid to host the 2027 Fifa Women's World Cup. Now Paul, a former acting CEO at Safa, is expected to be announced as head of the country's bidding committee for the 2027 showpiece. You'll remember Paul left Safa in November 2019 to be part of the organisational team for the Qatar 2022 World Cup where he was believed to have been appointed as a tournament director. Let's dissect this rather interesting development that has raised a lot of eyebrows on how inspired Paul's 'return' decision and many are asking, with this being the Women's World Cup, shouldn't there have been a female CEO appointed instead? Lots to dig, but for now let's get the thoughts of a woman who's no stranger to South African women's football and SAFA administration, Ria Ledwaba.
Thu, 22 Jun 2023 - 42min - 236 - Kgothatso Montjane — first SA woman to win a French Open title since Tanya Harford and Ros Fairbank
A first South African woman to win a French Open title since Tanya Harford and Ros Fairbank's victories in.1981. Yep, that's right and her name is Kgothatso Montjane. And if you've followed Kgothatso well over the years, you know all too well that this has been long coming because this was his sixth appearance at a grand slam finals in the last four years. Well- deserved isnt a word enough to describe this young man's tenacity and never say never attitude. Now Montjane teamed up with Yui Kamiji from Japan in the most electrifying manner as the two clinched an impressive 6-2, 6-3 victory over Diede de Groot and Maria Moreno to claim the women's doubles trophy. She is back in the country and straight to #MSW studios

Tue, 13 Jun 2023 - 49min - 228 - Banyana star Linda Motlhalo determined to leave her mark on women's football
I've said this over and over before and I hope most girl moms and girl dad are heeding the advice well that if you have a little baby girl who just wants to play football, but you just doubt she can play, and not just play, but play abroad and actually make a living out of the game, that they should use a couple of Banyana Banyana players as inspiration. One of them being this fiesty guest of ours, she just won a league title in Scotland. Let her story show your girl or girls that hey, baby girls too can play this game pretty well. She's so good many often say she's way better than her male counterparts. "Randfontein Ronaldinho" is her nickname and she recently helped Glasgow seal the Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL) title, providing a crucial 89th minute assist in their 1-0 win over rivals Rangers on the final day of the season. Glasgow’s league triumph has seen them qualify for the Champions League, something we all so excited to see her taking part in, for the very first time. Linda Motlhalo ladies and gentlemen...

We all know just how lethal he was during his heydays. A world class striker whose experience certainly rubbed off at Manchester United this season. What a dream season really he's had and we reflecting with the one and only, Benni McCarthy on his first season at Old Trafford.

Clubs officials are on their phones endlessly. Agents are in meetings non-stop. It can only be the window period madness. It's begun and trust us to be here for you, every rumour, every deal and every release. We got you.
Tue, 06 Jun 2023 - 29min - 225 - Can Manchester City complete an historic treble by winning the Champions League
I tell you this, perfection can come in many forms and be interpreted in different ways but one thing's for sure, Manchester City has produced more polished performances under Pep Guardiola this season. I mean there have been matches where the team has scored more and created more – yet City’s ability to dominate its opponent, to do enough to win when it matters is as perfect as it gets on a soccer pitch.
