Between Two Beers Podcast

Between Two Beers Podcast

Steven Holloway & Seamus Marten

Good questions. Great guests. Few beers... Steve and Seamus like asking good questions. And they love good answers. After over 20 years of friendship, they bought a microphone and started a podcast, allowing them to sit with, and learn from, the most interesting people they can access.

From Kiwi legend Marc Ellis, to media personalities Jeremy Wells and Paddy Gower, Rugby coach extraordinaire Wayne Smith, sexologist Morgan Penn, and Olympian Dame Lisa Carrington...  Between Two Beers has produced countless hours of incredible stories, career highs, lows and moments of raw vulnerability. And it’s only the beginning.

  • 211 - Ali Williams on the Highs & Lows of All Blacks Career, Auckland FC, Fatherhood & More!

Ali Williams is a former All Black who was a professional rugby player for 16 years, played 77 times for New Zealand and won the Rugby World Cup in 2011.

This was Ali’s first long-form podcast and it turned into something really quite special.

We covered perception vs reality, his blended family operation with mega-successful businesswoman Anna Mowbray, why he’s investing in Auckland FC, his relationship with his dad, his best stories from the All Blacks, *That night in Paris*, retirement and what he’s doing now.

This was one of our most memorable episodes. There were laughs and tears, ideas challenged, and perceptions shifted.

Ali is comfortable being the life of the party- but also operates with real depth in his thinking.

He’s a super unique guy and I think you’ll get a lot out of this one, we loved it.
We’re also super stoked to tell you about the business we’ve built. • 209 - He Survived an Eruption on Mt. Ruapehu: William Pike’s Inspirational Story (Low Key Legend)

William Pike is one of our low-key legends who is a world-class story teller, with an exceptional story to tell.

In 2007 he was guiding a friend to the summit of Ruapehu when the mountain erupted. As a layer of rocks, water and mud rained down on his Dome shelter, he was crushed and critically injured.

When he next woke up in hospital, his leg was gone. Doctors called William’s survival a miracle, but his crushed right leg had to be amputated below the knee. After a long series of surgeries and a gruelling rehabilitation, William learned to walk again with a prosthetic limb – and what he’s done with his life since is equally remarkable and inspiring.

This episode is gripping. William’s harrowing account of being trapped on the mountain, anticipating death will stick with you. The community that rallied to save and support him in the rescue and rehab will  warm your heart – and how he’s used the adversity to thrive in life will inspire.

    You’ll love this one.

We're also super stoked to announce that William has joined us at B2B Speakers and is available to share his story at your function or event. As you’re about to hear, William is one of the best speakers in NZ and you can now get him to your work or event by flicking us a message at B2Bspeakers.co.nz. • 208 - Dave Wood on New Zealand’s “Physical Health Crisis”, How to Avoid Burnout & Embrace Adversity

Dave Wood is best known as being Israel Adesanya’s breathing and mindset coach – and was one of our favourite, and most popular, guests in 2023.

He runs a two-day Calm Under Pressure workshop in Piha and the course – and his work has a strong connection to the show.

Steve went on it last year, it’s where he was inspired by Jemarl Paerata’s story and we had him on the show as a guest – and this month Seamus attended it.

We spend the first 15 mins in this one unpacking the weekend and what Seamus got from it, before digging into what Dave’s been up to for the last year.

We talk about the incredible growth and success of his business, the key to finding balance in a busy life, the importance of being selfish – and prioritizing yourself, how he helped the world’s best squash player, training the Warriors and why understanding the impact of your thinking, emotions and actions is pivotal to achieving personal growth.

If you’re interested in Dave’s epic life story and the first 40 years of his life, I’d highly recommend going back to listen to the ep we recorded with him in February of 2023.

We're also super stoked to have Dave on the books of B2B Speakers, so if you’d like him to MC your night, or share his story at your function or event, flick us a message by going to B2Bspeakers.co.nz.

Also check out our epic lineup of former guests available for hire too. And while there sign up to our weekly newsletter with all the biggest news from us and the podcasting space in NZ.
