tshepomantje@gmail.comTue, 15 Feb 2022 - 66 - Personal Manifesto
"A personal manifesto is a declaration of your core values and beliefs, what you stand for, and how you intend to live your life. It functions both as a statement of principles and as a call to action." (Marelisa Fabrega). In this short episode, I share my own personal manifesto. In creating this manifesto I meditated on what values I want to stand for, and how I want to show up for myself, and for the people and spaces around me on a daily basis. I wrote this personal manifesto with the intention of re-reading it every morning as a part of my morning routine, and a way to remind myself of who I am and what I wish to stand for everyday. My hope is that this inspires you to reflect on your own values and beliefs, and if you are so inclined, write out your own personal manifesto (or use this one), to remind yourself daily of the journey you wish to walk.
I love you. Thank you for your patience and support.Wed, 29 Sep 2021 - 65 - Moving in awe with yogi, Sbu Breathe
In this episode I am joined by yogi and founder of Move In Awe,Sbu Breathe. Sbu shares his introduction to, and journey with yoga, and the work he does to ensure that more people, especially African youths, are exposed to the practice. Put simply, yoga is a practice that involves movement, meditation, and breathing techniques to promote mental and physical well-being, and to connect one to a deeper sense of self. I say "put simply" because an arrangement of letters cannot encapsulate what this ancient practice has to offer. One ought to practice to fully comprehend. Through Move In Awe,Sbu aims to create inclusive, diverse, and tranquil spaces where beginners and experienced yogis can practice and experience the benefits of this beautiful practice. Experiencing mental health challenges in the workplace may lead to decreased productivity, increased sick-related absenteeism, poor work quality, and poor job satisfaction. Despite research showing that mental health challenges affect a large population of the work force, workplaces and corporate culture is yet to fully acknowledge its role in creating spaces that are supportive and inclusive of people with mental health challenges. A more proactive approach for managing mental health in the workplace is a strategic imperative for employers. In this episode I am joined by Lethabo Sekele to talk about Mental Health in the Workplace. Lethabo is the Chief Executive at Workwell Workplace Mental Health - They equip organisations to creatively formulate strategies in the workplace to identify, understand and respond to employee mental health needs and challenges. In this episode I am joined by Siseko Kumalo, who is an academic, published writer, PhD candidate at the University of Pretoria, and the former editor-in-chief at the Journal of Decolonising Disciplines. Kumalo joins me for a conversation on decolonisation. For many decades, Africa's identity had been determined, through oppressive techniques, by eurocentric ideals. In the past couple of decades, there has been a concentrated effort to address these injustices of the past, and from there, re-establish the African identity. As a new generation takes center stage, be it politically, commercially, or as parents, we are presented with the opportunity to take part in reconstructing the African identity. The intention of this episode is to bring clarity to what is meant by decolonisation, and what roles there are to play in this endeavour.

tshepomantje@gmail.comSat, 23 Jan 2021 - 56 - 7 Steps to Overcoming Internal Resistance
More often than not we find that, actually doing the task is not the difficult part. The difficult part is getting ourselves to start and to working consistently. We find that we are the ones who stand in our own way - even though we do want to complete the task and succeed. Why is this? It is Internal Resistance. It manifests in many different ways - procrastination, distraction, lack of motivation, self-doubt - but essentially, it is our brain's attempt to keep us in our comfort zone because of fear. In this episode, I go into practical ways you can get out of your own way and start taking steps towards achieving your goals.

tshepomantje@gmail.comTue, 19 Jan 2021 - 55 - Dear 2020, Thank You
Let's reflect on the year that was. However, considering the challenges of the year - the perspective this episode takes is that ofgratitude. Research in Positive Psychology has found that gratitude and happiness are always strongly correlated. Gratitude moves people to experience more positive emotions, to thoroughly enjoy the good experiences, better their health, face adversity, and develop and maintain relationships of strength, which in turn makes you happier. In this episode I have invited dear friends to share with us what, in spite of the challenges of 2020, they are most grateful for. My intention is to create space for gratitude. My hope is that as we recognize our own blessings, hopefully you listening will notice the good in your own life and we can exit 2020 a little bit happier. Enjoy the episode.

tshepomantje@gmail.comSun, 20 Dec 2020 - 54 - Masculinity and Mental Health with Ntokozo Mbokazi
Ntokozo, a mental health activist and researcher, and I take a deep dive into the construction of masculinity and the ways in which it informs men's experiences of mental health. In masculine culture, mental health struggles are often ridiculed, resulting in feelings of isolation and disconnection by men who find themselves confronted by mental health. These feelings may find manifestation in the man in many different ways, most of which may be toxic to himself or to society. Our intention in this episode is to hold space to engage with mental health within masculine/male culture, draw on our own experiences to flesh out the problematic and often suffocating nature of masculinity, and to brainstorm any solutions that can liberate masculinity from its own bounds.

tshepomantje@gmail.comSat, 10 Oct 2020 - 53 - It Gets Difficult Sometimes (A Journal Entry)
As someone who intentionally engages with mental health issues, I have developed an unrealistic expectation for myself: to always be good. It often feels re-enforced by people who depend on me for one or other reason: "If you aren't good, what's going to happen to us?" When times of difficulty come, it feels like this should not be happening; like "I should know better". But the reality of things is that sometimes it gets difficult for all of us. In the midst of these emotions, I decided to journal. In this episode is that entry.

tshepomantje@gmail.comSat, 07 Sep 2019 - 37 - The Spirituality of Letting Go with Linathi Makanda
“The truth is, unless you let go, unless you forgive yourself, unless you forgive the situation, unless you realize that the situation is over, you cannot move forward.” (Steve Maraboli). In this episode I am joined by poet and fellow podcaster, Linathi Makanda, and we talk about the importance and practice ofletting go. Many of us hold on to situations, relationships, emotions, and even identity markers that no longer serve us. Whether we do this consciously or otherwise, either way, holding on to these sets us back in many ways. Linathi and I share our own experiences and struggles with letting go; and share practices that have helped us with the process of letting go. Like Beyonce says, "Thank God I found the good in goodbye."
Enjoy the episode.

"Choose to grow where you are planted." What? How?
Realising fully that the present moment is all there ever is - that where you are right now is where you're meant to be - and accepting that, is one of the biggest challenges of the human experience (at least of my human experience). In this episode, I share my personal journal entry, where I ponder the experience of the tree in an attempt to learn from its transcendent expression.
Thank you for listening.
