In this episode I'm talking to Andrew Elkan about the Near Death Experience he had while he was in a coma.
 
Bio
Andrew Elkan, born in Saint Louis, Missouri, US, in 1977, moved to California in 1984 and attended college in Santa Cruz, CA. He developed epilepsy as a child but didn’t experience full seizures until adulthood, around the age of 23.

At one point, Andrew had a severe seizure that required inducing a coma to stop the seizures and reduce brain swelling. Unfortunately, after 24 hours without success, they could not bring him out of the coma. He remained in a coma at the ICU in Scripps Hospital, Encinitas, for 28 days.
Upon waking, Andrew spent over a month in the hospital, during which rehabilitation began. He had to relearn basic skills like walking, writing, and reading. After attaining a basic level of functioning, all therapy stopped, leaving Andrew without further physical or emotional support from the hospital.
Facing a long struggle to prove his cognitive disabilities, Andrew eventually met with a federal judge and, with his testimony and neurologist’s input, was granted federal disability status. It took several years after his coma for Andrew to reaccess therapy after obtaining disability assistance.
Experiencing the challenges of navigating disability assistance, paying bills, finding medical help, and securing housing in the United States, Andrew decided to create a support group called “Coma Survivors.” With this group, he aims to provide knowledge, help, and community for coma survivors seeking financial support, housing, medical assistance, or simply understanding and listening ears.
Additionally, Andrew is working towards establishing “The Coma Survivor’s Foundation” to support coma survivors in their unique journeys further. He believes that his experience while in a coma and his survival are unique and valuable, as the experience of being in a coma is one that few individuals encounter.

This week I'm reading from Robert De Filippis' book 'Signals in the Noise: 
Encountering the Limits of Materialist Science - An Exploration of Consciousness and Reality'.

"The Signals in the Noise," groundbreaking theories about consciousness are meticulously explored, presenting an avant-garde perspective that stands to challenge our traditional, materialist viewpoints. The author leads us on an intellectual journey, questioning established materialist scientific norms and bringing forward evidence that defies materialist theories of consciousness.
The book emphasizes that consciousness persists and can even be enhanced when brain activity decreases, supported by numerous research studies involving psychedelics, near-death experiences, and other instances when brain functions are diminished. This new understanding suggests that consciousness transcends the physical confines of our biological makeup, challenging conventional notions about its origin and nature.
Furthermore, the book introduces a transformative perspective on the universe, proposing that what we perceive as material is merely a function of our sensory systems. As a child, I was the only spiritual person in our family. My grandfather’s death, when I was around eight or nine, made me realize my mortality. My mother was an atheist, and when I asked her what happened when you die, she told me nothing, you just disappear. I was a little kid; I didn’t want to vanish, and I became terrified of death. In my mid-teens, I began studying the various religions, philosophies, and spirituality of the world. I studied their histories and how they got the way they are. I also studied the off-shoot churches and what they taught about death.
In my thirties, I developed a high interest in cosmology that eventually advanced to the other sciences. Today I’m fascinated with the findings of quantum physics, astral physics, studies of the mind, and spiritual Consciousness.
I became a family counselor for almost thirty years and had many years as a workshop facilitator, giving talks, and teaching spirituality. I’m also a Unitarian lay chaplain and officiate at weddings, funerals, and child naming ceremonies. My interest in spiritual learning has not faded and now have over 65 years of growth in that direction.
After retirement, I could finally get interested in what I wanted to do, be a writer. In one story, the hero astral projected. So, I went online to find out if it was even possible for my hero to do what I was proposing. That’s when I found OBEs (Out of Body Experiences) on a website called NDERF.org. Although they researched Near-Death Experiences, there was some information on OBEs as well. However, I got sidetracked when I became fascinated with the underlying profound spiritual knowledge within those reports. After joining the chat group, I became a bit of a regular, at least until Dr. Jeffery Long and his wife, Jody, asked for someone to volunteer to do research, and I put my hand up.
It indeed was a delight to have ended up researching 2500 death experiences. In the beginning, I was interested in the experiences these people were having, but after a while, I was more interested in the spiritual learning within the accounts. The information went together with the years of study I had done and took me much further than I ever imagined.

As a little girl I always picked up on feelings around me and I noticed details that others would take for granted. I have always been an empath, and felt other people’s feelings and energies. I was terrified of the dark because I “felt” that I was being watched and that I was not alone. In 2012, I had my first psychic reading which opened the doors to the metaphysical for me. Actually, the door was always there but I had shut it a long time ago because I didn’t understand the messages (feelings, pictures, thoughts and smells) that I was receiving.

For six minutes Wisconsin husband, farmer, and writer Philip Hasheider was dead. He met all the requirements: heart not beating, lungs no longer breathing, skin an ashen-color turning blue. He was lifeless, flat on the floor.
This extraordinary story of his Near Death Experience (NDE) is about the events on an early October morning leading to his sudden cardiac death and what he experienced during that time away from his body. Through no request or fault of his own, he had suddenly, in an instant, become an expert on dying.

This week I am reading from Ann Harrison's book 'Experiences of Physical Phenomena in the 21st Century'.

Here are accounts of the best sittings of 25 years with several dedicated physical mediums, both public and private, where I have seen and been part of amazing contact and interaction with spirit forms, participating in experiments with ectoplasm-touching and being held by ectoplasmic hands in red light. I have known the passage of matter-thru-matter, and felt the energy and the presence of materialised forms.
There are experiences of direct voice and many different instances of Independent Direct Voice, with the voices moving around well away from the medium. In Home Circles we had communication through tables and the Ouija board and, with one medium, there were many recognised transfigurations, in red light.
There are reunions with my loved ones in trance communications, and the effects that it had on friends, when their family chatted with them at their first sitting. I have also included some of the wise teachings we had from several spirit communicators.

This week I am talking to Ann Harrison about her book 'Experiences of Physical Phenomena in the 21st Century'.

Here are accounts of the best sittings of 25 years with several dedicated physical mediums, both public and private, where I have seen and been part of amazing contact and interaction with spirit forms, participating in experiments with ectoplasm-touching and being held by ectoplasmic hands in red light. I have known the passage of matter-thru-matter, and felt the energy and the presence of materialised forms.

There are experiences of direct voice and many different instances of Independent Direct Voice, with the voices moving around well away from the medium. In Home Circles we had communication through tables and the Ouija board and, with one medium, there were many recognised transfigurations, in red light.

There are reunions with my loved ones in trance communications, and the effects that it had on friends, when their family chatted with them at their first sitting. I have also included some of the wise teachings we had from several spirit communicators.

Born in the East Riding of Yorkshire and having attended the High School for Girls there she then trained as a Pharmaceutical Assistant with Boots the Chemists. Later, after the traumatic loss of her fiancé she trained as a teacher and worked for some years teaching in a Primary School which she loved. After the death of her first husband in 1990 she became involved in Spiritualism which led to writing spirit-inspired verse which was used as readings in Spiritualist services. The poems she has written and the teachings she received are now in her book - ‘In search of Serenity’. This involvement led to meeting a wonderful man who became her second husband, Tom, and they worked together spreading the story of his mother’s mediumship (Minnie Harrison). I received Bachelor of Science and Master degrees in Electrical Engineering and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. I spent 16 years designing and managing flight control systems, avionics and cockpits for The Boeing Company. I then joined the US Government’s Senior Executive Service where I spent nine years in various director positions for the US Army and NASA research and development organizations. For the last 16 years of my business career I was the CEO of Cobham Defense Electronic Systems Corp, a company I founded and grew into the world’s leading defense microwave corporation, which at my retirement had a billion dollars in annual sales and over 3500 employees.

However, throughout my business career I spent my spare time seeking answers to questions like: who was I, where was I, and why was I here. I studied all the great religions in an attempt to learn the nature of their origin and their founding principles. Philosophy seemed like a fertile source of wisdom so I started in the West with the ancient Greeks like Plato and Pythagoras and worked my way up to Emerson. I then studied Eastern philosophies, which offered excellent insights. Curiously, it seemed the older the philosophy the more enlightened it was. Mainstream science was part of my education so I was exposed to those tenets early in life and often. But science focuses on the physical world and I figured if the source of the physical world is spiritual, then finding reality’s truths without considering its spiritual aspects would be a futile effort. I concluded that if religion, science and philosophy could not construct a rational view of reality, then the answers needed to come from elsewhere.

I found that for centuries psychics, mediums, channels, remote viewers, near-death experiencers, etc., had been offering a fascinating and consistent perspective on the spiritual world from first-hand experiences, and usually by highly reliable sources. But like any source, verifying the reliability of ESP reports was paramount. After sifting through reams of data, a consistent pattern of potential truth began to emerge that separated itself from the rest of the information.
After retiring from the business world I wrote The Endless Journey and for two years I hosted The Common Sense Spirituality Show, which was a weekly Internet radio program, where I was exposed to a group of fascinating people. I also did a weekly podcast called Aspects of Spirituality, and hosted the Sanibel Metaphysical Meetup Group. After a lifetime of study not only did the multitude of disparate information begin to make sense, it turned out to be a truly good news story. I always had the feeling that truth would be positive, but the answers I found were far beyond my wildest dreams.

Donna Thomas is an independent researcher and a Research Fellow at the University of Central Lancashire in the UK. Donna has a PhD in Linguistics and Identity awarded from Lancaster University and teaches postgraduate students in her current role. Donna has researched with children and young people since 2004 in local government, community and academic settings. For the past several years, Donna has been researching the nature of self and unexplained experiences with children, as an independent and academic researcher. I knew from a very young age that I had the ability to be very consciously aware. When I would be at my great grandfathers house as a small child, I would often notice the spirit energy of a lady laying on the bed, turned out I later found out it was my great grandmother that I was seeing and she died 20 years before I was born.
As a child I was always predicting what was about to happen and it always turned out as I had said, so in my 20’s I decided to join a meditation circle to learn how to develop these visions and to open my third eye and pineal gland even more so that I could be very accurate in what I was predicting.
I started doing actual readings for people about 30 years ago, I remember this one friend came to my house and she had a list in her bag of all the things she wanted to ask me, she sat down at the table and I started to go through what I was picking up around her and at the end of the reading she showed me the list. I had answered every single question in order that she had them written down without even seeing them.

I also discovered around that time that I could be just as accurate reading the energy of someone from their photo rather than having them sitting in front of me and I really felt this was the way I was to keep working in the future. It also allows me to keep my personal life private and my family private without having strangers coming into my home and leaving their energy in my home and leaving their departed loved ones spirits as well.
So for the past 30 years I have done all my readings via written correspondence with letters and then emails. And people have kept some of these readings for all those years and quite often re-read them again to bring them comfort or to see how things did in fact unfold for them. I also love the fact that with the internet, I can reach people from all over the world and I don’t need them to be in my house to be able to read them.

This week the I am reading from Ken Goudsward & Barbara DeLong's book 'Before Roswell The Secret History of UFOs'.

The famous Roswell incident is, in the perspective of many, the origin of what we have come to know as the UFO phenomenon, or in recent times, “the UAP threat”. Roswell was indeed a major turning point in terms of public awareness as well as government involvement, at least in the USA. But it didn’t start at Roswell. The public view of UFOs beginning in 1947 is merely a continuation of longstanding phenomenological patterns. An abundance of historical UFO sightings exists, from long before Roswell, working back through the centuries into antiquity and beyond. Michael Kameron
Michael was just an ordinary person who experienced both sides of the paranormal, from alien abductions to encountering strange, mystical beings, stretching back from his childhood right through to his adult life. Having been brought up in the backdrop of a stringent Roman Catholic Irish community in the East-End of London in the 1970’s, it was unthinkable that such unexpected, supernatural encounters could exist at all. He lived in a house plagued by poltergeist activity, encountering spectral visitations from hooded figures.

Throughout his childhood, Michael had been unaware that such experiences were anything other than normal, until he realised that upon reflection, something odd had been happening; that his life was very different from others who considered such supernatural phenomena as totally inexplicable.

It was then that he became aware that his very existence appeared to be working in parallel worlds, and that he was ostensibly living two entirely different lives, rather than one. In this up dated version of the 2000 book about the sightings over Washington, D.C. in 1952. The Washington Nationals examines the case in depth, adding additional commentary, witness interviews, and new information. The sightings took place on two consecutive Saturdays at what is now the Ronald Reagan National Airport and involved multiple radar confirmation, reports from pilots, both military and civilian, and attempted intercepts by fighters. Although dismissed, officially, as nothing more than a temperature inversion, those involved, including the radar operators, airline and fighter pilots, dispute those conclusions. This examination of the event, along with sightings from other parts of the country and the situations that developed from the presidential interest in UFOs, is one of the most comprehensive studies of that segment of UFO history.

Jessie Desmond

This week I'm reading an extract from Richard Martini's book 'The Greatest Story Never Told: As Told by Jesus and Those Who Knew Him'.

This book is recorded conversations (on film, via skype, zoom) with people who spontaneously claim to be “seeing” “hearing” or otherwise getting information from someone they identify as Jesus. Some claim to have “seen him before” “never seen him before” or “they don’t believe in him” but are somehow accessing him. But the consistency of content is what drew me to the reports.

I’m a writer/director of theatrical motion pictures. I’ve written and/or directed eight feature films, including “Limit Up” and “You Can’t Hurry Love.” I’ve written 10 “best-selling books” (kindle in their genre) about the research of what people say under hypnosis about the afterlife, and recently books with the help of a medium talking directly to folks I knew no longer on the planet, (“Backstage Pass to the Flipside” 1, 2 and 3 with Jennifer Shaffer). I’ve written miniseries for HBO (“The De Medicis” – unproduced) and other film companies. I’ve written scripts for major film studios (including David Kirkpatrick, our trusty foreword fellow) worked on the feature films of Robert Towne (“Personal Best”) and Phillip Noyce (“Salt.”) It’s not like I’m seeking this line of investigation… it literally fell into my lap.

While filming people under hypnosis or not under hypnosis, “seeing” or “hearing” from Jesus started to become more frequent in the footage. At first it was disconcerting. People not under hypnosis saying “I’m seeing Jesus. I don’t know why I’m seeing him because I don’t believe in him!” Eventually I took the leap; “Well, can we ask him a question?”

To my chagrin the answers “he gave” weaved a different story of his life. A story that had echoes of “The Life of St. Issa” as well as other tales of his “survival” from the crucifixion. These consistent yet contrary stories challenged my conception of who he was, challenged my ideas of what consciousness might be, and basically challenge my existence in more ways than one. I published a number of those interviews in “Hacking the Afterlife” but recently while writing “Architecture of the Afterlife” I’ve had more people claim he was “showing up.” And the more he showed up, the more stories he told about his path and journey that mirrored the previous ones. And finally, the author, former studio exec David Kirkpatrick suggested “letting him speak.”

Needless to say, there’s no way to prove they are his words or it’s him speaking. However, what he says is consistent, what he says is contrary to the mythology of him. Allow me to say that again; every time he shows up, he recounts the same contrary story about his life, which is an alternate version of the “Greatest Story Ever Told.” When asked why he was interested in "telling an alternate version of his life" he's reportedly said on more than one occasion: "It's not alternate if it's true." In this book you’ll hear a linear story about the alpha and omega as told by him and those who reportedly knew him.

I've been reluctant to share this story for years; I offer these pages to help people make a DIRECT connection with him. He's not gone; he's just not here. I encourage everyone to ask him on their own.
