Mark O’Connell is the author of The Close Encounters Man: How One Man Made the World Believe in UFOs, a biography of astronomer Dr. J. Allen Hynek. Hynek was a consultant to the U.S. Air Force’s official UFO investigations in the late 40s to the late 60s. A skeptic at first, Hynek went on to become a proponent of serious research into the UFO phenomenon. Mark is also a screenwriter, teacher, and blogger. He wrote episodes for Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and has developed feature film projects with major studios, including Walt Disney and DreamWorks Animation. He is also the founder of the UFO blog High Strangeness. He lives in Wisconsin with his wife, Monica, and teaches screenwriting at DePaul University in Chicago. Lee Speigel is a journalist who has also spent decades researching and writing about UFOs. In the 70s, he organized a presentation of credible UFO information to the United Nations as part of Granada’s attempt to have the U.N participate in UFO investigations. Currently, he is working with James Fox on Fax’ latest UFO documentary. Fox is often credited with producing the best UFO documentaries, especially from a credibility standpoint.  In this episode, we talk to Lee about the exciting project he is currently working on. This year’s annual Roswell UFO festival was another success. The festival began with the 50th anniversary and continues to this day. The UFO Museum has broken attendance records for the last few years, so festival attendance is going strong. However, there was a unique aspect to this year’s festival that will make future events feel a bit like they are missing something. What they will be missing is Stanton Friedman, the man who put Roswell on the map, and made the alleged crash of a UFO in 1947 the most well-known UFO story in the world. Stanton Friedman is retiring this year, and although he will be attending a few more events, this will be his last yearly trek to the UFO festival. Dr. John Alexander is a retired senior Army officer with decades of experience with a wide range of phenomena. Jeremy Kenyon Lockyer Corbell is a documentary filmmaker and contemporary artist. He launched his series Extraordinary Beliefs in 2015 and since then has created several compelling documentaries on various paranormal phenomena, mostly centered around UFO and alien abduction themes. Michael Schratt is a military aerospace historian. He has lectured across the country on the subject of "Mystery Aircraft" and classified propulsion systems buried deep within the military-industrial complex. His speaking engagements include the “OSHKOSH” AirVenture 2006/2007 event, (the world’s largest air show). Michael has developed many contacts with first-hand experience dealing with classified “black programs,” including former USAF pilots, retired Naval personnel and aerospace engineers who have maintained a TOP SECRET Q “MAJIC” clearance. Chris is the Mutual UFO Network’s (MUFON) new Director of Research. Chris received his PhD in Chemical Engineering focusing on the study of nanomaterials for use as catalysts and adsorbents from Northeastern University. He has a bachelors degree in  chemical engineering and philosophy from the University of New Hampshire. Debbie Ziegelmeyer is a successful entrepreneur, diver and paranormal investigator and lecturer in Missouri. Richard has been with MUFON for more than ten years and presently serves as the State Director for Wyoming and on the Board of Directors. He has been a practicing attorney for more than 22 years and possesses a Juris Doctorate from the University of Wyoming College of Law, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Biology from the University of Wyoming. Chuck Zukowski runs the website UFONut.com. He is a micro-chip engineer and an ex-reserve (volunteer) deputy sheriff in Colorado Springs. He has been investigating UFOs and other paranormal phenomena for several decades. He is currently the Cattle Mutilation expert for the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON). Chuck and his sister Debbie (MUFON board member and Missouri state director) noticed that many of the cases they explored ran along the 37th degree parallel. They began researching this phenomenon and started sharing their discoveries, including on this podcast. Their work got picked up by several TV shows, and eventually a book by well-known author Ben Mezrich was written. The idea and Chuck's research is now being developed into a motion picture. Lee Speigel is a journalist who has spent much of his career covering UFOs. He has worked for ABCNews.com,AOL News, and, most recently, the Huffington Post. He is now working with filmmaker James Fox on a script for an upcoming UFO documentary. In 1975, Lee produced a documentary record album, “UFOs: The Credibility Factor,” for CBS Inc. It marked the first time that military and scientific voices came together to disclose their personal UFO encounters and to call for government recognition of the phenomenon. Soon after he aided the Prime Minister of Granada in an attempt to get the United Nations to officially investigate the UFO phenomenon. During this effort he worked with UFO research pioneers Dr. J. Allen Hyenk and Jacques Vallee, and was invited to meet Steven Spielberg, who wished to aide the group in their efforts. In this interview, we discuss the recent re-release of Spielberg’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Lee’s visit with Spielberg, and how Hynek and Vallee felt about the movie. Journalist Leslie Kean recently posted an article in The Huffington Post about a two year investigation by the Chilean government's official UFO investigation organization into a video captured by the Chilean Navy showing an object they cannot identify. The object was caught on an infrared camera, and according to the director of the UFO organization, “We do not know what it was, but we do know what it was not.” The video was investigated by CEFAA, an organization in Chile's equivalent of the FAA, which also falls under the jurisdiction of the Chilean Air Force. Robert Powell is the Director of Research for the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), and the head of MUFON’s Scientific Review Board (SRB). For the past several years, the SRB has been putting together a top 10 list that they release at the MUFON Symposiums every summer. Paul Dean is an Australian who has been uncovering U.S. military secrets via the Freedom of Information Act. Although the U.S. government claims they have not been investigating UFOs since the close of the U.S. Air Force's official UFO study, Project Blue Book, government records show otherwise. Finian Handley is one of the administrators of the Open Minds UFO News Group on Facebook, and a UFO enthusiast. Robert Davis, Ph.D is an internationally recognized scientist in his field, and served as a professor at the State University of New York for over 30 years.  He graduated with a B.A. and M.A. from the City University of New York and with a Ph.D in Neuroscience from The Ohio State University. Antonio Paris is a Professor of Astronomy at St. Petersburg College and the Chief Scientist at the Center for Planetary Science – a science outreach program promoting astronomy, planetary science, and astrophysics to the next generation of space explorers. He has a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from The City University of New York and a Master’s of Science in Planetary Science from the American Public University. Shawn had an amazing UFO sighting of a black triangular craft over the highway between Las Vegas and Area 51 in March of 1996. The sighting changed his mind about the origins of these mysterious craft being reported worldwide. He has since had a great interest in these type of sightings in particular and has created a Black Triangle UFOs Facebook page to follow them. Shawn is also interested in a phenomenon called Ice Fall, and is compiling cases on a new website at Megacryometeors.org.

Erica Lukes is a UFO researcher and podcaster. She is the former state director for the Utah chapter of the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) and a MUFON field investigator. She is currently working on a fascinating UFO case reported by an American Airlines pilot. A UFO researcher in Utah first heard the report on HAM radio. Erica and other MUFON investigators then were able to find the audio online and receive an official copy from the FAA via a Freedom of Information Act Request. Nick Pope worked at the UK's Ministry of Defence UFO desk for several years in the 1990s. Since then Nick has remained a UFO expert and has been involved with the release of large batches of UFO files from the UK government. Mark Rodeghier has been President and Scientific Director of the J. Allen Hynek Center for UFO Studies since 1986. He earned a B.S. in astrophysics from Indiana University in 1975. After a year of graduate study at the University of Sussex in England, he returned to complete a M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) in sociology. His dissertation, Factors Influencing Attitudes Toward Controversial Research : Quantitatively Disentangling the Social from the Scientific, explores the attitudes toward the study of extraterrestrial intelligence by the scientific community. Robert Powell is the Director of Research for the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), and the head of MUFON's Scientific Review Board (SRB). For the past several years, the SRB has been putting together a top 10 list that they release at the MUFON Symposiums every summer. The 2014 list just came out a few weeks ago at the 2015 MUFON Symposium in September. Although months have passed, Powell explains that the board needs that time to be sure the investigation of each case in 2014 is completed, and to have time for the SRN to review and do their own analysis. Michael Twichell is an electrical engineer who believes he has discovered an ancient technology that has been lost to the ages. On April 25, 2013, during a routine flight of a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) DHC-8 Turboprop aircraft in Puerto Rico, the crew spotted an unusual object. They caught the object on their thermal imaging system as it flew in from the ocean, over Rafael Hernandez Airport, then back out into the ocean. The crew did not know what it was they caught on video. Eventually, a UFO field investigator for the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) discovered the existence of the video from a friend, who then allowed her and other trusted individuals to examine the video. She brought the video to Florida MUFON State Director Morgan Beall, who helped her put together a team that included Robert Powell, MUFON's Director of Research. This team of individuals, all of whom have scientific backgrounds and/or work in technology, then spent over a year investigating the video to determine what the object might have been. They ruled out planes, balloons, drones, and birds, and, in the end, have not been able to discover its origins. In this interview, we talk to Beall and Powell about the group's investigation, the details of their findings, including the analysis of radar data they received via a Freedom of Information Act Request, and the feedback they have received regarding their report.
