Welcome to the York Story Slam podcast, where we feature select stories from our monthly open mic storytelling events in York, Pennsylvania. On November 20th, the twelve winners from our monthly open mic story slams returned to compete for the title of Best Storyteller in York. We gathered at the beautiful Appell Center in downtown York, and our storytellers took the stage to share their stories with a full house – more than double the audience at our monthly events. Our theme for the evening was Satisfaction. We heard stories of questionable adolescent decisions, adventures with loved ones, both animal and human, and relationships that change with time. Welcome to the York Story Slam podcast, where we feature select stories from our monthly open mic storytelling events in York, Pennsylvania. On October 18, 2016, 10 storytellers shared their stories with our audience at Holy Hound Taproom in downtown York. Our theme for the evening was Unmasked. We heard stories about both literal and figurative masks people wear. Michelle Macera won with the story about how she exacted revenge on her on-again, off-again high school boyfriend. Next up is Matt McDunnell. Matt, a regular at York Story Slam, recalled the time he saw a little girl - and an older one - get scarred for life. Our final story on this month’s podcast comes from Billy Krouse, who shared a story about a night on the job as a limo driver. All the winners from this year’s open mic story slam events will return to compete for the title of Best Storyteller in York. Our theme for the evening was Lessons Learned. We heard stories about lessons learned in childhood and as adults, and recurring lessons learned over and over throughout life. Matthew Kabik won with his story about the lessons he learned at a school for children with Cerebral Palsy. Next up is Teddy Feinberg. Teddy told us about how he got into some trouble almost immediately upon arriving in New Zealand for a semester abroad.
