I think that learning English will become much better in the future, and I think that future is soon.
I think AI and Mixed Reality will soon help to create better virtual tutors, and cool virtual learning environments.
The future looks bright for English learning!
TRANSCRIPT:
(Full transcript right here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1qnySjEwROOMUWfX7No7AT5HC8Us4kkm5?usp=sharing )
Well, hello everyone, and welcome to this English lesson, which isn't really an English lesson. It's more just Bob's thoughts on what the future of learning English will look like. I think there's a couple of things that are going to change what it's like to learn a language in the future, and I just want to talk about each of them for a bit, so hopefully you find this video interesting.
The first thing I want to talk about is AI I and you might think, Bob, you're late to the party. AI was a big thing a year ago. We've been using AI already to learn English and I think you're probably right. I'm a little late to the party, but I don't think AI is where it's at yet in terms of a tool. I think it's very useful. I think it's awesome. But I think what the future holds is something even cooler. Eventually I think you will have a personalized English language AI tutor. I think it's probably about six months to a year away. Someone will invent it, or maybe it exists already and you can tell me in the comments below.
But I think eventually you will have a tutor that you talk to every day, that you write to every day and writes back to you that you can have conversations with. Like you can actually talk and hear the AI tutor and it will study and correct your English speaking. I think the AI tutor will simulate different conversations with you. It will simulate being at a restaurant, it will simulate buying gas at a gas station. It will do all kinds of really cool things like that to help you practice your English conversation. And hopefully it's really, really cheap. I hope it doesn't cost a lot of money. So I think that's where AI is really going to shine. Once we have an AI that is tailored to you, an AI that knows what you know and what you don't know, and then is able to help you get better at speaking English. And so I think that'll be really cool. It'll be cool when an AI tells you, hey, you made that mistake yesterday, let's practice it a bit more in a really friendly tone in a way that doesn't make you feel bad for making that mistake.
So I think that's somewhere in the future. I think right now AI is really cool for generating stories, helping you learn vocabulary, having little written conversations. But I think the future is going to be cooler when it actually remembers who you are and helps you every step along the way, making the conversation just a little more challenging. Can you imagine an AI that helps you learn three or four new words every time you talk to it and intentionally uses them in the conversation and teaches you the meaning. That would be very cool.
The second way I think the future of English learning is going to change is with VR, virtual reality, or augmented reality, or mixed reality. There are a lot of names for it. But when I see the videos with the Apple Vision Pro headset, and when I see what can be done with it, I think we're looking into a future soon where you'll be able to see things around you that aren't in reality, and then the headset can help you learn those things. I can imagine, along with an AI simulating actually going into a restaurant and ordering your food and having your food brought to you, all virtually of course. And then maybe they bring you the wrong food, and then you can ask the server for the right food.
So I think vSat, 17 Feb 2024 - 440 - Free English Class! Topic: Comfort! 🛁🥣🐕

Well, hello and welcome to this video. It's not an English lesson this week, sorry about that. If you were hoping to have this really well-made English lesson, this is not it, this is just an update on Bob's life. It's a good update, by the way, nothing serious. But by the way, if you do want it to be somewhat of an English lesson, you could read the transcript in the description below before you watch this, you could hit pause right now, read that, and then watch it, that's a good activity when you're learning English.
But no, this is just an update on my life, it's an exciting update, because the school year is almost done, this is always an exciting time for me. You'll be watching this on a Tuesday, so that's in a couple of days, so on Tuesday next week, I'll be giving my final exam to my students, and then I'll be grading it, and then that's pretty much it for me for the school year. I'll have the rest of the summer, most of July or all of July and all of August to do what I want.
So what will I be doing? Well, I'll be making videos for all of you. Even though the school year is over, I do not stop teaching, I always keep teaching on YouTube, it's something I really enjoy, I'll keep doing the livestreams. In terms of video lessons though, I'll be a little bit more creative, because I'll have a bit more time to put each lesson together. I know you like the lessons where I talk about 10 phrases or teach you six different ways to say something, but I plan this summer to get out and about a little bit more, to get out and make videos not just on my farm, I will make videos here for you, but also to go out and make some videos in actual situations, in places where I need to speak English. So hopefully, you can set aside some time in the future to watch those.
So I'm excited, I'm excited to have the school year done. I should say though, I do really like teaching, but when the school year ends, I do have a lot of happiness, maybe an inappropriate amount of happiness. So I do love my job, but I do love it when the school year comes to an end. And then of course, I will be spending a lot of time this summer on the farm, helping Jen with the flowers, as most of you know, we grow flowers on our farm. I just like being outside, I think I have the heart of a farmer. When I was growing up, my parents encouraged me to get a university education, they encouraged me not to become a farmer, but inevitably, I ended up becoming a farmer in a small way anyway, so I will definitely be helping Jen here on the flower farm.
Probably, one of my favorite things to do on the flower farm is anything involving my tractor, and then selling flowers at our farmer's market. I'm sure in your local town you have a farmer's market, you should go and support your farmers there if you can. I'm not sure what that noise is, I don't know if the cicadas are already here or it might just be a bird. Oh, I think it flew away. Anyways, I will be helping Jen on the farm, spending lots of time outdoors, just making sure that everything's growing well. It's raining right now, so I don't have to worry about irrigating and doing all of that crazy stuff, but I will certainly help Jen in any way I can. But yeah, driving a tractor, anytime you need someone to drive a tractor, call me. And definitely helping Jen sell the flowers at market.
One of the reasons I enjoy selling flowers at market is because there's lots of really good snacks there, samosas, empanadas, a whole lot of food from different places in the world, so things that you would be familiar with, I can buy at our farmer's market, so that's really, really fun. Not good for my waistband, I get a little... Well, I don't put on weight in the summer, 'cause I work it all off doing physical labor, but it certainly is enjoyable to be there and sell things.
And then lastly, I'Sat, 24 Jun 2023 - 387 - Let's Learn English! Topic: Forgetfulness! ⏲️🏷️🧵

There are certain questions that are considered rude or inappropriate in English (an in many other languages!) if asked in the wrong situations. Some questions are never asked, and others have their own time and place so it's important to be aware of them.
It's important as an English learner to know when a question is impolite, rude, or considered an invasion of privacy. If someone wants to share personal information with you, they will do so on their own time, and it might be considered prying for you to ask.
I hope you enjoy this English lesson about questions you should never ask! Have a great day!
