Harry explains the key to the success from his point of view, too. He's then joined by the excellent Ameé Ruszkai, lead women's football writer for FootballCo, to talk about United's hugely significant victory over Chelsea. Harry Robinson hosts from Old Trafford, discussing the future of Manchester United's Old Trafford stadium with fans of United and opponents Everton, who are soon to leave their historic Goodison Park home for a new ground at Bramley Moore Dock. Do fans support a move? How much of a role does Old Trafford as a stadium play in the identity of United, and the same with Goodison and Everton? What is the minimum capacity of a new ground that could convince fans to leave Old Trafford behind? Those questions and many others pondered in this episode from M16! Regular co-host Jack Tait is away this weekend but both Harry & Jack will return on Wednesday evening to preview Sunday's FA Cup quarter-final against Liverpool. Learn more about your ad choices. Hi everyone, Harry Robinson here. If you're interested in Manchester United history, I have another podcast you might like, and after a two-and-a-half-year hiatus, there's a new episode of United Through Time out now! It's about James W. Gibson, club president from 1932 until his 1951 death. He's an inspiring visionary of a man. Here's a five-minute teaser to see if you like it. If you so, here's a link to listen in full on podfollow: https://pod.fo/e/22434c After the main episode, there'll also be a reaction show with Wayne Barton - author of 22 United books - and I in which we discuss the similarities between Gibson and Ratcliffe and why that era is so important to study. Wed, 06 Mar 2024 - 387 - S9 E36: Derby defeat, new UCL format (City, 1-3)
It started so well, but it ended in familiar fashion. Another derby defeat. We expected little else, but this was a performance that showed signs of promise, only for Manchester United to be unable to hold on and City to finish 3-1 victors. On the latest episode of the Manchester United Weekly Podcast, hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait review and analyse Sunday’s Etihad defeat and Wednesday’s crucial FA Cup triumph over Nottingham Forest, play Guess the Player, give you the Academy Briefing, an update on United Women, and preview next Saturday’s match at home to Everton, a 12:30pm kick-off. Mon, 04 Mar 2024 - 386 - S9 E35: Playing with fire (Fulham, 1-2)
Well, positive goal difference was nice while it lasted! Manchester United back to nought in goal difference and perhaps back to zero chance of finishing in the Premier League’s top four after a late 2-1 defeat at home to Fulham, an ever-so-rare victory for the Cottagers at Old Trafford. It comes in a week of great excitement for the club as Sir Jim Ratcliffe, INEOS and Trawlers Limited were confirmed as co-owners of the club, bringing with them ambition, vision and relieving frankness. On the latest episode of the Manchester United Weekly Podcast, hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait dissect that Fulham defeat, play Guess the Player, give you the Academy Briefing, consider Ratcliffe’s early statements and how that fits into the historical context of Manchester United and preview Wednesday's FA Cup tie at Nottingham Forest. Mon, 26 Feb 2024 - 385 - S9 E34: Ten Hag's Bazball? (Luton Town, 2-1)
Five consecutive wins for Manchester United and Erik ten Hag, whose desired identity for the Reds is becoming clearer by the game, whether you like it or not. Basketball-esque football. End-to-end. Forget possession and control. Does it work? Well, it is at the moment. But is it convincing, is it sustainable, is it the right thing to do? That’s what hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait are discussing. They also talk the currently unstoppable Rasmus Hojlund, impressive Kobbie Mainoo and much more. They play Guess the Player, give you an extensive Academy Briefing, reflect on a bad weekend and result for United Women, the possibility of Dan Ashworth at United and look ahead to Saturday’s Old Trafford match against Fulham. Sat, 17 Feb 2024 - 383 - S9 E33: Momentum builds (Aston Villa, 2-1)
Manchester United have won four games in a row! Scott McTominay wins another game for Erik ten Hag’s side, who remain five points behind Aston Villa and six behind Spurs but have found some momentum. Rasmus Hojlund’s unstoppable scoring march continues to help United achieve a rare away victory at a top-eight side, a first since 2021. With that damning statistic in mind, the key question to ask today - beyond how satisfying was that - is whether this 2-1 victory at Villa Park is a sign of something sustainable or a one-off? Is this harking back to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sides in many ways? Or should we look over some poor moments in an intense 90-minute match given the end result was so good and so valuable? All of that, plus much, much more is answered by hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait on the latest episode of the Manchester United Weekly Podcast where we’ll also be playing Guess the Player, giving you an extensive Academy Briefing and previewing Sunday’s away match at Luton Town. We also talk Old Trafford. Wembley of the North? That’s what they’re saying. Rebuild, renovate, demolish, move - what options do we favour? Our Patrons get a bonus 15-20 minute Q&A in which we answer questions like ‘Is McTominay the new Smalling?’, ‘why hasn’t Ten Hag implemented a successful plan?’ ‘if Ten Hag could give out a managers’ player of the year award who would he give it to, and why is it Scott McTominay’ ‘are there opposition players you’ve begrudgingly enjoyed watching from rivals?’ ‘what are De Gea and Phil Jones doing?’ ‘which striker should United sign next?’ And that’s not even it - there's much more! If you want to listen to that bonus section every week and get ad-free episodes and help support our work as we near our 10th series, you can do so by going to patreon.com/UnitedWeeklyPodcast. Mon, 12 Feb 2024 - 382 - Bonus: Where does Mount fit in, do Ten Hag's plans reduce this team's strengths?
Answering these questions from one of our Patrons, hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait essentially ponder over whether Erik ten Hag's ideal plans for this Manchester United team make it greater than the sum of its parts or reduce its strengths: Where does Mount fit in once he’s fit? Can a Bruno, Mount and Mainoo midfielder work? What do we do with Casemiro? Tue, 06 Feb 2024 - 380 - S9 E32: Youth drives success (West Ham, 3-0)
Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait review Manchester United's 3-0 home win over West Ham, asking and answering questions like: Does this performance show wider growth or were United just more clinical? How good can Rasmus Hojlund be? How has Alejandro Garnacho developed this season? What is the next thing for him to improve? How big a blow is losing Lisandro Martinez again? And much more! We also reflect on the enduring legacy of the Munich Air Disaster on United and its fanbase, play Guess the Player and preview next weekend's game against Aston Villa. There's also an extensive Academy Briefing with Harry giving some insight on the development of Kobbie Mainoo, the departure of Isak Hansen-Aaroen and two U18s wins at Carrington this week, plus a series of late loan moves. Mon, 05 Feb 2024 - 379 - S9 E31: The man who saved Manchester United
Harry Robinson is joined by Matt Johnson, great-grandson of the man who saved Manchester United, Harry Stafford. The pair start off by talking about Thursday night's extraordinary win over Wolves and Kobbie Mainoo's memorable 97th-minute winner and then reflect on the man who made it possible, a Newton Heath captain from over a century ago. There's chat about the early history of United, about Newton Heath, about a community of descendants of legendary figures, about collectors’ items, a tale of loss and tragedy, and a very determined man, without whom Manchester United would not exist. Harry Stafford is one of The Men Who Made Manchester United, eight inspirational figures who form the basis for Harry Robinson's book, released in October 2023 and available to buy now. Fri, 02 Feb 2024 - 378 - S9 E30: FA Cup progress (Newport, 4-2)
With audio and reaction direct from a classic FA Cup tie at Newport County's Rodney Parade, including an interview with an Exiles fan and the unique sounds of tie like this, we review an unconvincing but nevertheless successful win on the road. Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait debate what this says about Ten Hag's management as United fielded their strongest team of the season but floundered at times again. Plus, what more can Hojlund do? Can United have a mid-season resurgence as in a similar scenario back in 2020? What does Marcus Rashford's future look like now? As well as that, we play Guess the Player, look at United Women's first win in a month and give you an extensive Academy and loan briefing, with a four-goal haul for one Salford lad at Old Trafford. For our Patreons, we talk Bayindir vs Onana and Jurgen Klopp's upcoming Liverpool exit and the question: "What's the more desirable job - being United or Liverpool boss?" Mon, 29 Jan 2024 - 377 - S9 E29: New CEO, Academy insight and Newport preview

Manchester United are up and down and negatives and positives abound alike. Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait return for a first show of 2024 to discuss a busy Christmas and New Year period, reviewing the Reds' latest match, a 2-2 home draw against Tottenham Hotspur. We then discuss the nearly completed partial takeover of MUFC by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and list what our key priorities would be were we in his position (thanks Tony Ryan for the question!) Mon, 15 Jan 2024 - 375 - S9 E27: Draw at Anfield (but UCL exit)
Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait, one at Old Trafford, the other in Chicago, review Manchester United's respectable 0-0 draw at Liverpool. Standards have dropped, without a doubt, but it's a good result given what was first feared. Some foundations to build on. Also reviewing the home defeat to Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League, they also discuss what McTominay's continued selection means for Ten Hag's future as United manager, whether these players have a consistent issue with inconsistency, Rasmus Hojlund's form and contributions and much more. Of course, that much more includes chat about Kobbie Mainoo, the 18-year-old midfielder who's impressing greatly. Patrons get a 20-minute bonus Q&A with some great discussions including a debate on Marcus Rashford's future and conversation around Old Trafford renovation works. Learn more about your ad choices. Mon, 18 Dec 2023 - 374 - S9 E26: Humbled at home (AFC Bournemouth, 0-3)
Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait review a humbling home defeat to a well-organised AFC Bournemouth side who deserved their victory and more. United have lost little ground in the race for the top four because of results elsewhere, but Saturday afternoon’s match was a really damning indictment on the team right now. Where do the Reds go from here? Who takes the majority of the blame? What lessons are there to be learned? Those questions and many more will be answered, or at least debated, on the latest episode of the Manchester United Weekly Podcast. As well as reviewing that game, the Reds preview matches against Bayern Munich - who had their own shock defeat - and Liverpool - who required another late winner - and discuss plenty more. They play Guess the Player, give you an Academy briefing and Patrons get a 15-minute bonus Q&A in which we talk the January transfer window, amongst other things. Learn more about your ad choices. Mon, 20 Nov 2023 - 369 - S9 E21: The league's most in-form team, somehow (Luton, 1-0; Copenhagen, 3-4)
Manchester United… the most in-form team in the Premier League... apparently! It doesn’t feel like it, but, somehow, that’s four league wins in five games for Erik ten Hag’s Reds. It was hardly convincing; United failing to convert some good chances again and going through another game without a forward scoring. Victor Lindelof was the unlikely match-winner in a one-goal home victory over Luton Town. Earlier in the week, we did see a forward score. And twice. Rasmus Hojlund continued to show his excellence on the European stage by putting United two ahead at his old club. A wonderful performance disrupted by a nonsensical refereeing decision, in the aftermath of which United crumbled a little. 2-2 and then back in front, a Fernandes penalty. But then behind again, 4-3. A gutting result after some really positive signs. So, lots to review from one win and one defeat on the latest episode of the Manchester United Weekly Podcast with hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait. We discuss the positive signs in midfield over the last three games and why Harry Maguire's excellent diagonal passes are a good sign, but also demonstrate something lacking in the side. Harry talks about his trip to Copenhagen and we play Guess the Player, give you the Academy Briefing and discuss Man Utd Women's start to the season. Plus, in our Patreon Q&A we talk what Sir Jim Ratcliffe might do in his first few weeks at the club, and lots more. To get access to our 100th-ever bonus Q&A, head here. Sun, 12 Nov 2023 - 368 - S9 E20: A lifeline (Fulham, 1-0)
A lifeline! Bruno Fernandes steps up for Manchester and the pressure eases after a truly demoralising week. Derby defeat preceded a dismantling at the hands of Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup and Old Trafford hasn’t felt quite as glum as that for many moons. Cue a trip to Fulham, often a useful antidote. And cue another late winner at Craven Cottage. Thank you very much! Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait react to a rare win for Erik ten Hag's United. But will it kickstart the season? What does Ten Hag's team selection say about his attitude at the moment? Other issues discussed include a necessary talk about Harry Maguire's head injury, Diogo Dalot's performance against Newcastle, what team United should start at Copenhagen and more. Harry gives the Academy Briefing, including info on an U21s league victory and what it was like at last week's EFL Trophy match at Salford City. In the Patreon-exclusive Q&A, we talk what's behind Antony's poor form, what is the best and worst case scenario for MUFC this season, our favourite and least favourite football pundits, and VAR. Tue, 03 Oct 2023 - 361 - S9 E13: No recipe for success (Palace, 0-1) - with Nathan Thomas
A pinch of a hope, two handfuls of doom. That’s no recipe for success. On the Manchester United Weekly Podcast, regular host Harry Robinson is joined, sitting in the shadow of Old Trafford at Hotel Football, by fellow Stretford Ender Nathan Thomas. In today's show, reaction to a 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace from the pair, and to United Women's winning return to the WSL. Guess the Player, the Academy Briefing, a preview of Galatasaray and news on a new initiative from the Manchester United Foundation. (PS: We meant to record this after the game but we were too pissed off 😅) ---- DETAILS ON THE FOUNDATION INITIATIVE THAT NATHAN MENTIONS Manchester United Foundation is asking fans to join them in ensuring local young people can access warm clothing this winter, by donating clean adult and children’s coats at Old Trafford when the Reds take on Brentford on Saturday 7th October. The Foundation will invest £100,000 in purchasing hats, gloves and scarves, which will be imminently distributed to our participants ahead of the winter period, and is requesting fans to supplement this effort by donating coats at Old Trafford. Coats that are donated by fans on the day of the Brentford fixture will be redistributed by the Foundation to young people accessing our community and education programmes, and by local poverty charities in Greater Manchester. The Foundation has also identified a charity in Ukraine as an additional beneficiary of the coats received from the appeal. All donated coats will leave Old Trafford within days of the Brentford game, to ensure the generosity of supporters can be felt by young people in need as soon as possible. The Foundation positively impacted the lives of more than 25,000 young people in the 2022/23 season, operating in the areas of highest social deprivation across Greater Manchester – where almost 250,000 children* are living in poverty. This is the sounds of MUFC with Harry Robinson on the Manchester United Weekly Podcast. It's Tuesday 26 September and United host Crystal Palace in the League Cup. With opinions and analysis interspersed throughout, this episode is more about the noise of matchday at Old Trafford, to take you into a place you've dreamed of going, or to remind of you of past visits. Something slightly different. I hope you enjoy it. (If you don't, feel free to skip it and we'll be back to our normal format very soon - opinion's a personal thing 😅) Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Mon, 25 Sep 2023 - 358 - S9 E10: Painful growing process, or just bad? (Brighton, 1-3)
Six points from a possible 15 (despite the slip of the tongue in the intro!) to start Manchester United’s season. 10 goals conceded in four games. These are two of the many stats that sum up the dire start to the 2023/24 campaign for Erik ten Hag’s team and once again we are left asking, is this a fair reflection of the team? And where the answer in previous games might have been no, perhaps this time, the answer is yes. Brighton & Hove Albion rode out the early dominance of United and then raced away after half-time. Young Hannibal scored a fantastic long-range goal to reduce the deficit, but that was about it for United’s response. On the Manchester United Weekly Podcast this week, it's time to dissect it. Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait review defeat to Brighton, preview a glamorous trip to Bayern Munich, compete at Guess the Player and give you your regular Academy Briefing. Patreons get ad-free, early access to this episode plus the usual bonus section where we decide whether Ten Hag will be here in 12 months time and plenty more. Learn more about your ad choices. Sun, 10 Sep 2023 - 355 - S9 E7: Gut-wrenching defeat (Arsenal, 1-3)
It has become an all-too-familiar feeling walking out of the away end at the Emirates and across the bridge past those big Arsenal letters thinking ‘what could have been?’ ‘how close was that?’ and, really, more than anything, ‘for fuck sake’. For a second successive year, an Argentine celebrated with intensity and passion as United appeared en route to a famous victory. Last year, Lisandro Martinez’s brilliant header was made futile by a 90th-minute winner checked by VAR. This year, Alejandro Garnacho’s wonderfully composed one-on-one finish was ruled out for the tightest of offsides and Declan Rice’s 96th-minute deflected strike won it for Arsenal. Gutting. On the Manchester United Weekly Podcast this week, Harry Robinson and Jack Tait discuss some positives, several pieces of significant off-the-pitch news (most of it bad), and a 10-goal thriller for the Academy, plus several deadline day signings. Mon, 04 Sep 2023 - 354 - S9 E6: Arsenal Preview (and Forest, 3-2)
*Patrons get 25 minutes extra* Manchester United’s start to this season is confounding. Erik ten Hag’s Reds appear constantly on the edge of breakdown, and always close to defeat, too, and yet six points from the opening nine is a respectable beginning to any campaign. Old Trafford stood in shock as United conceded twice in four minutes against Nottingham Forest, but there remained a sense of confidence and defiance, and justified it proved for a 3-2 comeback victory followed. Further injuries have followed to deepen the sense of crisis in M16, but it’s an away trip this weekend, to Arsenal. Back to London, where our record has been so poor recently, for a huge challenge at the Emirates. On the Manchester United Weekly Podcast this week, Harry Robinson and Jack Tait preview Sunday's match at Arsenal in detail today, as well as looking back on the Forest fixture. They also play Guess the Player, give you your extensive youth round-up with a double-digit win for the U21s. Patrons will get a 25-minute bonus section on transfers, the Old Trafford atmosphere, Ten Hag’s tactics and loads more. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Wed, 30 Aug 2023 - 353 - S9 E5: Early concerns, Greenwood (Spurs, 0-2)

On the Manchester United Weekly Podcast, Harry Robinson and Jack Tait discuss defeat in North London, Mason Greenwood and preview Saturday’s match against Nottingham Forest. They play Guess the Player, give you your regular Academy briefing and answer questions like ‘has everyone reacted after two games of the season?’ ‘how do United move on from here?’ and ‘have referees set a dangerous precedent?’ In the Q&A, exclusive to our Patreons, the Reds talk about who’d win a Premier League 5-a-side tournament, what kind of work they're both up to at the moment and the three steps to make MUFC competitive. Tue, 15 Aug 2023 - 351 - S9 E3: Season Preview
Who'll win the Premier League? Who will be Manchester United's most improved player? Who will become the fans' scapegoat? Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait give their predictions for these questions, and many, many more in the latest episode of the Manchester United Weekly Podcast. The two Reds preview Monday night's Old Trafford encounter with Wolverhampton Wanderers, discussing the impact of a new manager for the Midlands club. They consider who should start up front and on the left-wing, and what they're expecting to see from the game. Then they talk the likely exit of former-captain Harry Maguire, who looks set to join West Ham for £30m, assessing his potential replacements in Jean-Claude Todibo and Benjamin Pavard. After giving all their season predictions, Harry announces the title of his first book: The Men Who Made Manchester United. Released on 25 September with Pitch Publishing, it brings you the definitive history of Manchester United before Sir Matt Busby's post-war halcyon days. Inside are tales that will make you squirm, laugh and cry: the transfer fee of two freezers of ice cream, the tragic death of a young footballer and his forgotten family, the fight for the right to unionise, Edwardian Cockney Reds and the pelting stones of the angry residents of Budapest. It is the story behind the club's name and colours, the building of Old Trafford, the founding of the PFA and the creation of the Academy. It's filled with tales that will fascinate and entertain. Happy end of the Premier League season. Manchester United climb above Newcastle in the campaign’s final week to finish third after entertaining but unpolished victories over Chelsea and then Fulham. Erik ten Hag’s post-match message was clear: there is one game to go. On this bitesize start-of-the-week episode of the Manchester United Weekly Podcast, Harry Robinson and Jack Tait discuss United’s final two league games, consider how close United Women came to a first WSL title and a couple of other bits and bobs. Thu, 25 May 2023 - 344 - S8 E55: Victory at Bournemouth, United Women's title race
Manchester United need only one point to secure UEFA Champions League qualification via a Premier League top-four finish after results elsewhere went in their favour and a piece of Brazilian brilliance from Casemiro enabled victory away at AFC Bournemouth. In the Women's Super League, United Women scored in injury time to keep the title race alive and achieve a first league victory over rivals Manchester City. There's plenty to talk about. In our bonus Q&A available exclusively for Patreons, we try to name as many of Sir Alex Ferguson's final matchday squad a decade on, discuss Weghorst and Sabitzer's future, strikers, and how United can possibly overcome this City juggernaut in the FA Cup final. Mon, 22 May 2023 - 343 - S8 E54: Wolves (2-0, h) + Women's FA Cup Final
On a glorious sunny Saturday afternoon at Old Trafford and in a rare 3pm kick-off, Manchester United delivered with 18-year-old Alejandro Garnacho sealing a deserved victory in a must-win game as the Reds close in on that top four spot in the Premier League and Champions League qualification. Three games remain, away at Bournemouth and at home to West London duo Fulham and Chelsea. Two more victories will secure it. If they are as comfortable as Saturday, that’ll do. Wolves hadn’t a single shot on target while United had nine, and should have scored more. Erik ten Hag aptly reviewed: “Again we make the goalie of the opposition the man of the match.” Down at Wembley on Sunday, things were not so rosy. A world record crowd watched Manchester United Women’s first FA Cup final but the Reds couldn’t convert a dominant, expectation-shattering first-half display into an advantage and instead it was relentless winners Chelsea who were clinical and won it 1-0 with Sam Kerr scoring in a third consecutive FA Cup final. When the tears dry a little, attention will turn to the WSL title race between the same two sides. On the Manchester United Weekly Podcast this week, Harry Robinson and Jack Tait review the Women’s FA Cup Final (1-10 minutes), the men’s victory over Wolves (10-35 minutes), the end to the Academy season, some loanee highlights and loads more. Enjoy the show! In the Patreon-only Q&A, we talk Harry Kane, Michael Carrick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Sun, 14 May 2023 - 342 - S8 E53: Aston Villa (1-0, h)
Champions League qualification is edging closer. A disheartening draw at Tottenham Hotspur threatened to derail matters slightly but a well-deserved victory at home to high-flying Aston Villa restores Manchester United’s grip on a spot in the Premier League’s top four, captain Bruno Fernandes scoring the decisive goal. United Women took on Villa, too, in a brilliant weekend for the club all round, Millie Turner scoring a 93rd-minute winner to maintain United’s title hopes and keep them three points clear at the top of the Women’s Super League. The U21s played out an entertaining 2-2 draw with Spurs while the U18s’ frenetic late season fixture schedule continued with a thrilling 4-3 win away at Sunderland including another goal for the exciting young prospect Shea Lacey. All of that is reviewed on the latest Manchester United Weekly Podcast with hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait. Enjoy the show! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Mon, 01 May 2023 - 341 - S8 E52: FA Cup Finalists
Bald is best! Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait revel in penalty shoot-out victory over Brighton & Hove Albion at Wembley that has earned Manchester United a spot in 3 June's FA Cup final. It felt for a long time like a game set to be decided by a moment of genius or a mistake, and that was the case. United’s penalties were infallible. Brighton... well, they eventually missed. It’s been quite the week. The most disheartening of performances and defeats in Seville sent us out of the Europa League, and then this. Also in today's episode, news of defeats for the U21s, back-to-back wins for the U18s and a huge update in the WSL title race. Plus plenty of noise from a euphoric Wembley. Mon, 24 Apr 2023 - 340 - S8 E51: Forest (2-0, a)
On a Premier League weekend with more banana skins than Mario Kart, injury-struck Manchester United avoided theirs away at Nottingham Forest. Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen — a late addition to the starting line-up — purred in midfield. Antony's tenacity and confidence have earned them the plaudits, as well as a good goal and a fine assist. Now Erik Ten Hag’s side travel to Sevilla requiring victory to reach the Europa League semi-finals. They’ll return to England straight after and prepare for an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley against perhaps the in-form team of English football: Brighton. Round one of the United v. Brighton FA Cup semi-final has gone to the red corner. Manchester United Women made history on Saturday evening. It was difficult but in a classic cup tie, Marc Skinner’s side prevailed thanks to a clinical Rachel Williams finish, a 3-2 victory taking them to their first-ever major final where they’ll face Chelsea in mid-May. On the Manchester United Weekly Podcast with Harry Robinson and Jack Tait, we talk about all of the above, play guess the player, review an U18s Manchester derby, discuss relegation for one loanee and goals for two others and answer questions in a free bonus Q&A about Victor Osimhen, injuries, rotation, Maguire and loads more. Thu, 06 Apr 2023 - 336 - S8 E47: Newcastle (a)
Club football returned, but Manchester United seemed to miss the memo. A poor performance at St. James’ Park is rewarded with defeat. Erik Ten Hag’s substitutions came under fire, and so did most of the team’s players. Newcastle leapfrog the one and only United into third. Much work to be done. On the Manchester United Weekly Podcast this week, Harry Robinson and Jack Tait review Sunday’s Premier League defeat, play guess the player, preview Wednesday’s home match against Brentford and give you extensive updates on our loanees, the Academy sides and United Women, who had another good weekend. Mon, 20 Mar 2023 - 333 - S8 E44: Southampton (h, 0-0)
It’s far from the perfect bounce back, but Manchester United have not crumbled after that harrowing Anfield defeat. A confident dismantling of Real Betis in the UEFA Europa League was the key, and the Reds really should have scored six or seven. When Southampton came to town, there can be few complaints that the team failed to score. United simply didn’t create enough. A disappointing 0-0 draw against a poor side, and a quite forgettable match, but one that does tell us plenty about this team, and that’s what your hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait analyse on the Manchester United Weekly Podcast this week. The two Reds consider United’s faults and talk about Casemiro’s red card and a couple of other controversial decisions. They take a moment to remember Ian Stirling, a giant of Manchester United’s support who sadly died at the weekend. Then there's a review of the win over Real Betis in brief, a preview the second leg in Seville, your regular Academy, loan and United Women updates, and a new round of Guess the Player. Mon, 13 Mar 2023 - 332 - S8 E43: Liverpool (a, 7-0)
A painfully historic defeat. Liverpool 7-0 Manchester United. There are bad days at the office, and there is your joint-heaviest ever defeat. What a uniquely terrible match and moment in this season. Nevertheless, on the Manchester United Weekly Podcast, we get it all off our chests and move on as United look at setting ourselves up for Europa League progression having already won the League Cup and reached the FA Cup quarter-finals. We know it was bad, but we’ll be considering exactly what happened because don’t get it wrong, this wasn’t like the 4-0 at Brentford or even the 6-3 at City, and it certainly wasn’t like last season’s harrowing defeats to Liverpool home and away. And that’s why it feels different. So what is different about it? And why do we get the sense that this wasn’t just bad, but utterly, utterly bizarre? That’s what we’ll be trying to answer. And then we’ll give you your regular, extensive updates on the Academy, players out on loan and United Women, who had a highly contrasting weekend with a thumping win to extend their lead at the top of the Women’s Super League. We’ll then preview Thursday night’s match against Real Betis of Seville and La Liga. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Sun, 12 Feb 2023 - 326 - S8 E37: Crystal Palace (h) - test of Red character
A controlled, dominant and exciting Manchester United display unravelled before our very eyes after a Casemiro sending off, and yet the result remained intact. Against the very opposition this side had gifted away a valuable two points less than a month ago, the Reds held out. A relentless display of grit and determination in trying circumstances. What had looked like a comfortable home victory against out-of-form lesser opposition instead now represents an impressive test of character. United the victors over Crystal Palace, and that belief thing, well, it keeps on growing. Thu, 02 Feb 2023 - 324 - S8 E35: Reading (h) - Casemiro, scouting for rare gems and a Wembley trip?
What lessons can Manchester United take from Brighton's new star Kauro Mitoma and Arsenal's pursuit of the Seagulls' midfielder Moises Caicedo? That's one discussion of many in the latest Manchester United Weekly Podcast with Harry Robinson and Jack Tait. The two Reds react to a 3-1 victory over Reading in the FA Cup at Old Trafford which sees Erik Ten Hag's side through to the Fifth Round. Ten Hag is the first United manager in history to win his first six domestic cup matches. They listen to some wonderful Beatles-inspired commentary of Casemiro's lovely second goal and discuss the Brazilian's influence on Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Antony's excellent assist and progress. Christian Eriksen left M16 on crutches on Saturday night, so what would his absence mean for the team? Answering questions from the podcast's Patrons, Harry and Jack determine how much credit is due to United's way for the signings made last summer and whether the Reds should make a move for Brighton's Mitoma, or whether his good form can give the club a different lesson entirely. The boys play guess the player and provide an extensive youth, loan and United Women round-up with cup progress for Marc Skinner's side, two lovely goals for the U21s and a potential move away for FA Youth Cup-winning striker Charlie McNeill in League Two. If you enjoy the show, please share it on social media! TIMESTAMPS 00:30 Intro 01:15 Analysing Paul Ince’s insight on Erik ten Hag’s success at MUFC 11:40 The Brazilians! And some brilliant commentary on Casemiro’s goal 12:30 Casemiro’s influence on those around him (especially Wan-Bissaka) 25:50 Guess the Player - Clue One 26:50 Patreon question: How much credit does the new behind-the-scenes structure at United deserve for recent transfers? Obviously, Casemiro was sensational on Saturday and Ten Hag can take a lot of credit for the team's good form but overall singings have been pretty good so far this season- I even think Weghorst is a really good short-term solution/ squad player. (From Ted Popham, Patron since *) 32:25 Patreon question: Finally a question about my favourite non-United player to watch at the moment, Mitoma. How good do you think he is/could be? I really love watching him play and would love to see United get him instead of another top 6 club. If United were to get him, would he be a good signing? He could give squad depth plus competition for spaces- the type of signing City make all the time. Or do we already have too many left-wingers, especially with Garnacho needing game time? Thu, 05 Jan 2023 - 317 - S8 E29: Nottingham Forest (h)
A very merry Christmas and a happy New Year. On today's Manchester United Weekly Podcast, host Harry Robinson reviews an impressively comfortable 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest. The incessant drumming rain weighing down Old Trafford was hardly festive, but it's a second good win on the bounce since the return to club football. It’s a particularly tricky time to record a football podcast, because fixtures are relentless, and gaps in the schedule are very few, as well as time to find with family commitments, so it’s just Harry again this week, without regular co-host Jack Tait, with a brief review of the Forest victory, and some thoughts on Cody Gakpo’s transfer to Liverpool. In the background is noise from Old Trafford, from 20 minutes before kick-off through to Rashford and Martial's first-half goals, hopefully it can give those of you who can’t make it to games regularly a little taste of home. Ah, the World Cup! It is the most brilliant event on the planet. Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait revel in an excellent start for United's players, most notably Marcus Rashford, but Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro and Harry Maguire, too. They talk about fan culture of Australians, Americans, Argentinians, and other countries not beginning with A. They talk about the refereeing, and about the damage to FIFA's reputation from the last fortnight, as well as Qatar's. It was only meant to be a brief chat reflecting on the (majority of the) group stages. It elongated itself into something larger. Enjoy the show! A six-goal pulsating second half sees Manchester United run out 4-2 winners and seal progression to the next round of the League Cup, where the Reds will play Burnley. After a sloppy first 45 minutes sorely lacking in quality, the second half exploded into life as Villa twice took the lead before Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho propelled United to a morale-boosting victory. The two Reds consider Garnacho's electric performance, a new Lisandro Martinez song, why United started so poorly, the improvement in the second half and much more. Learn more about your ad choices. Fri, 11 Nov 2022 - 310 - S8 E22: Aston Villa (a)
Manchester United’s busiest-ever October caught up with them as November began. A 1-0 victory over Real Sociedad was not enough to leapfrog the Basques, and so Erik ten Hag’s United face a play-off with Barcelona in February to progress into the Europa League round of 16. Two early goals conceded at Villa Park made it an unsurmountable challenge in the Midlands, and one United were hardly going to live up to anyway. A first defeat in some weeks is a bringing back down to earth. But has it taught us anything new? That's what hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait discuss in this episode of the Manchester United Weekly Podcast. Tue, 08 Nov 2022 - 308 - S8 E21: West Ham (h)
Manchester boy Marcus Rashford scores his 100th Manchester United goal the day before his 25th birthday. It’s some achievement for a truly admirable young man who is making the most of his talent and his platform. Today on the Manchester United Weekly Podcast, hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait are reflecting on that, but also, of course, the victory that Marcus’s goal gave the Reds, a 1-0 win over David Moyes’s West Ham, a result that leaves Erik ten Hag’s United fifth in the Premier League with a game-in-hand on the two teams above, Spurs and Newcastle. After Harry and Jack review Sunday’s game, they preview a big Europa League night in San Sebastian, Spain, with Real Sociedad set to prove tough opponents in the final game of the group stages. In the middle of the show, you’ll get your youth, loan and women’s round-up, and we’ll be playing guess the player again throughout the episode. Casemiro’s uncontrollable roar of delight, Bruno Fernandes’ punch of the air, Lisandro Martinez’s leap into the Manchester United away end. A draw, yes, but a set of raucous celebrations that told a bigger story, of how this United team under Erik ten Hag has come together, and of how this team is restoring a connection with the club’s supporters that was lost so painfully last season. On this Tuesday edition of the Manchester United Weekly Podcast, hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait review a 1-1 draw at Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge. They talk about what bits of excellence from United forced Blues boss Graham Potter into a first-half tactical change, why Martinez and Luke Shaw stood out and how the team must improve in attack. Later in the show, you’ll get your regular, extensive women’s, youth and loan round-up. And then the Reds preview Thursday’s must-win UEFA Europa League match against Moldovan champions FC Sheriff. What is it about October? The ghouls come out to play again as Manchester United are beaten 6-3 in the derby. In 2020, it was 6-1 to Tottenham, in 2021, 5-0 to Liverpool and in 2022, this. Can we skip it this time next year? In the end, three second-half goals, a stunner from Antony and a double off the bench from Anthony Martial, reduced the humiliation of this particular Etihad trip. But only a little. Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait review that match, analysing where Erik ten Hag got it wrong in how United set up, but also how the players let themselves and the club down again. Later in the show, there's your regular youth, loan and women's round-up, plus a preview of Thursday's trip to Nicosia. Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast. Tue, 04 Oct 2022 - 300 - S8 E13: Man City (a) preview
September draws to a close and here comes October 2022, genuinely one of the busiest months in the 120-year history of Manchester United. Nine games to come in the Premier League, UEFA Europa League and EFL Cup. First up, Manchester City at the Etihad in the 2pm Sunday kick-off. Today on the show, we’re previewing Sunday’s match against City with the significant helping hand of Michael Plant, journalist at Manchester World who covers the clubs from both M16 and M11. Michael will give us his insight into how Erik ten Hag’s first few months at United have progressed and tell us whether he’s seen any teams this season manage to nullify Erling Haaland, who has monstrously racked up the goals for our local rivals so far. Later in the show, Harry Robinson is joined as always by cohost Jack Tait to talk about the game in further detail as we decide on our starting XIs, tactics and look ahead to this nine-game month of October. There’ll also be a youth and women’s round-up midway through the show. Enjoy! Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information. Fri, 30 Sep 2022 - 299 - S8 E12: Moldova and Patreon mailbag
With two Premier League postponements for Manchester United's game, hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Take the opportunity to answer questions from the show's patrons. Before diving into some fascinating subjects, Harry talks about his time in Chisinau, Moldova with a bit of reaction to the unspectacular but important win over FC Sheriff at the Zimbru Stadium. There are details of Moldovan ultras, a Napoli-supporting hostel owner, a massive wine cellar and loads more. To see which questions we're answering, and head straight to the ones you're most interested in, check out the timestamps below. TIMESTAMPS 00:00 Introduction 01:00 Jadon Sancho’s good finish and other quick takeaways 03:20 Lisandro Martinez’s AR-GEN-TINA chant and the background to his surprise about it 07:30 Harry’s experience in Moldova: The food, culture, history, language, the people, the wine, its relationship with Russia and the EU, what the stadium was like and the atmosphere, and plenty more! 18:00 Patreon mailbag 18:05 Korey Lennox: “Not sure if you’ve recorded yet or not. But, if you haven’t, would you mind talking about when and why you fell in love with United? I grew up in Virginia just outside of Washington DC. I’m 31, so when I was growing up, I remember seeing King Eric and his popped collar when I was 5 or 6 years old. That was it for me. I thought it was the coolest thing and I never looked back.” 28:30 United Women’s opening WSL game of the season: 4-0 win over Reading - and how does WSL grow without getting the bad parts of the Premier League? 35:20 The big question of the episode, from Patreon, Dio Turner: “Marcus Rashford is playing well but I miss the days when he'd frequently dribble past defenders. Now he seems less likely to try to dribble past defenders or he'll get dispossessed if he tries. What do you two think happened to his slalom runs through defences?” 51:40 Youth and loan round-up (U21s, U18s, Matej Kovar and Ethan Laird) 53:30 Patron questions - Ethan: “Haven’t got anything huge to ask, which I suppose is a good sign as the squad seems pretty settled at the minute, did just wanna ask about De Gea retaining his place on Thursday, any theories as to why that could be? Would be slightly confused if he starts again against Sheriff considering we’ve just loaned in a very capable deputy.” 55:10 Korey Lennox: “I’m back again 🤣 Thoughts/feelings that Greenwood might return to the squad? Not sure how to feel about it.” 56:30 Ted Popham: “With all the VAR issues, especially the clear and obvious debate. Do you think a 3 appeals per half system like American football or a rugby specific conversation with ref and video ref (i.e is there any reason I can/cannot award the try) would work better? Or a different method?” 1:09:50 Outro and information on signing up to be a Patron! Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information. Fri, 09 Sep 2022 - 297 - S8 E10: Arsenal (h)
Manchester United showed ruthless precision in a fixture once famous for its intensity but that for many years had declined into irrelevance. Sunday saw a 3-1 victory over Arsenal thanks to a double from Marcus Rashford, following up on his goal against Liverpool. The atmosphere at Old Trafford, primarily due to those two games, but also two wins on the road, has changed enormously. The team and the mood is unrecognisable. Harry Robinson and Jack Tait review that home win over the league leaders, give you an extensive youth and loan round-up and preview Thursday night’s match against Real Sociedad. In the Patreon bonus Q&A, we’ll be talking Sancho and Rashford’s chances of going to the World Cup, the chance of Maguire getting back into the team, Ronaldo starting in the Europa League, Ivan Toney and plenty more. Mon, 05 Sep 2022 - 296 - S8 E9: Leicester (A)
Three wins on the bounce for Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United and 20th place seems a far-off place now. The Reds are in fifth, which matters very little - it’s only just turned from August to September. What matters are performances, good results and the mood. That mood is good. Join Harry Robinson and Jack Tait on the Manchester United Weekly Podcast for an immediate post-match review of United’s 1-0 win against Leicester - achieved thanks to Jadon Sancho’s first-half goal - followed by a discussion with Mirror Football’s Nathan Ridley on the U21s EFL Trophy victory at Carlisle. And finally, we discuss our latest signing, Antony, in a little more detail, before previewing Sunday's match against Arsenal where the 22-year-old Brazilian winger could make his debut. Thu, 01 Sep 2022 - 295 - S8 E8: Southampton (a)
Manchester United win consecutive games for the first time since February and it's a first away clean sheet in nine months. That says more about the dreadfulness of the past than the positivity of the present, but it's notable nevertheless. Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait reflect on a 1-0 victory at Southampton's St. Mary's stadium on Saturday lunchtime, focusing on a compact defence, a goal that highlights the style Erik ten Hag wants to implement, Casemiro's debut, a half-time tactical change and lots more. Harry and Jack also talk about the imminent arrival of Brazilian winger Antony to the club, the UEFA Europa League draw, Hannibal's loan to Birmingham City and Thursday night's match against Leicester City. Enjoy the show! In the bonus Q&A for Patrons, it's more detailed talk about Antony, the Europa League and whether goalkeepers should wear caps and short sleeves or stick to traditions.
