Wed, 09 Sep 2020 - 07min - 101 - 83: Three Steps to Reclaim Your Decluttering Motivation
We all lose our motivation sometimes… including me. As I was preparing to record this episode, I had to face my own lack of motivation and inspiration for podcasting. Fortunately, by following the steps I outline in this episode I was able to reclaim my motivation!
It is very common to start the decluttering and Purification process with gusto just to feel deflated a few hours, days, or weeks later. These 3 steps will help you understand what’s at the root of your lacking motivation – and take your next steps.
Three Steps to Reclaim Your Decluttering Motivation (and even get inspired & excited!)- Acknowledge without Judgment – Name what has occurred. Be compassionate and open with yourself. This way you can take responsibility for where you are, without condemning yourself for it.
- Explore – Think back to what was happening in your life and your Purification process when you got derailed. See if you can identify what happened that caused you to stop. It could be external circumstances or internal experiences. Simply be curious – explore and notice.
- Prioritize – Without judgment, determine if Purifying is a true priority right now. Check in with your why: Why did you want to Purify and declutter in the first place? It may be that you need to intentionally pause your process so you can attend to other things right now. Or, after exploring the reasons you really want to do this, you may realize you want to get started again right away!
3a. Pause with Purpose – If you need to take a pause from Purifying, pause with purpose. See if you can bring your current process to an intentional close – pack things back up and seal off the energy of your process so you can move onto other priorities without guilt.
3b. Stoke the Fire – If you decide you want to re-start your process, deepen your inspiration. Journal about your why, visualize your Purified home, get excited! Talk with your bestie about your why and what will be different in your life after you’ve Purified away the excess. Create a plan to address the things you discovered when you were exploring in step 2.
May these steps help you to clarify your priorities and determine which next steps are right for you.
If you need some help getting motivated…I’d love to help! Let’s see how we can work together to get you re-inspired and motivated. TAP HERE to schedule a free 20-minute consultation now. You’ll answer a few questions and we’ll connect for your consultation over the phone or video conference (your preference!).

You may recall that back in June, I joined Pam Holland (professional organizer of Mindful Decluttering & Organizing) for her live Q&A event on The Inner Art of Decluttering.
In preparation for that event, Pam and I decided to exchange sessions so we could directly experience each other’s work.
In this episode, you get a behind the scenes look at my session with Pam! I share some background on the linen closet I was addressing, as well as the three most helpful things I received from Pam’s work (there were many, and for time’s sake, I narrowed it down to three). Visit letspurify.energy/82 to see the before and after photos.
I also share three big takeaways that I received from having a session with a professional organizer:
Commitment: Committing to the session helped me commit to actually doing the work. Acceptance: Being held in non-judgment by Pam helped me accept myself – and my closet! Action: Knowing I was being held accountable helped me take action and fully complete my Purification process. This episode is full of details about the journey: my inner resistance, my aha moments, and my new perspective. I hope it inspires you to get started on your process. And if you find yourself wishing you had some support, I hope it encourages you to reach out and get it! Set up a call with a friend, reach out to Pam, or set up a free consultation with me. We’re here to help.

Wed, 22 Jul 2020 - 29min - 88 - 80: Purifying In Your Car, Truck, or SUV
Your vehicle is a magical creation! It allows you to travel rapidly through time and space. It takes you where you want to go.
Purifying in your car, truck, or SUV gives your vehicle some much-deserved attention. By Purifying and cleaning your vehicle, you can also establish stronger, more clear energy for your travels. Read on for some holistic decluttering and Purification tips!
Tips For Purifying In Your Vehicle As always, begin with the breath. Before you even open your vehicle’s door, plant your feet on the ground. Receive a few deep, centering breaths. Offer appreciation and gratitude. From this grounded space, give thanks for your vehicle. Notice what it allows you to do and where it takes you. Purify. Sort through all of the objects in your vehicle. Recycle and toss things as appropriate. Return other items to their proper places in the garage, basement, or other areas of the home. Make a pile of items that will return to your vehicle. Clean. Wipe down the surfaces, vacuum the seats and floors. (Tune in with episode 18: Celebrating the Energetic & Practical Importance of House Cleaning for inspiration to clean!) Consider washing the exterior of your vehicle, too. Organize. Re-place objects that belong in the vehicle so they are organized and accessible. Set an Intention. Consider setting an intention for your vehicle such as safe travels or joyful adventures. Select an intention that is meaningful and resonates with you. Select Some Traveling Companions. Consider inviting some companions to join you. These could be figurines, crystals, or anything else that brings a strong positive energy to your vehicle. Create a Ritual. Establish a consistent ritual for Purifying in your vehicle. This will remind you to shower your vehicle with appreciation. You’ll also begin to clear out the accumulated clutter on a more regular basis.I hope these tips will lead you to creating a more harmonious relationship with your vehicle.

Wed, 08 Jul 2020 - 27min - 86 - 78: Honing Your Intuitive Sorting Skill
In last week’s episode on Using Your Intuition to Declutter & Purify, I shared about:
Why your Intuitive Sorting Skill is so important to your Purification process What the Intuitive Sorting Skill is, exactly How to develop your Intuitive Sorting Skill (even if you think you’re not intuitive!)If you missed that episode, be sure to check it out! It will give you the foundation upon which these two tips for honing your Intuitive Sorting Skill will build.
Tip One: PracticeNow, you might be saying to yourself, ‘Michael – you told me last week to practice. Why aren’t you giving me a new tip?!?’ Read on, my friend…
We are so accustomed to listening to outside authority and guidance, which can really undermine our ability to listen and trust our inner wisdom. It takes consistent practice to remember how to listen within. And, even if you have developed the ability to listen to your inner wisdom in other facets of your life, we don’t often think to tune in with ourselves when doing a process like decluttering.
So… Practice. Sit quietly in your space among your belongings and simply notice. Notice how you feel in your body, notice how you feel emotionally. Is there tension? Excitement? Dread? Pick up an object – really experience it directly. What does it feel like? Are you attracted to it – or repelled?
Go back and listen to episode 77 again and keep practicing. And don’t just take my guidance. What does your guidance say about what you need to do to become more aligned with your intuition as you’re Purifying?
Tip Two: Make a List of Guiding QuestionsA list of guiding questions will give you personalized criteria that your belongings need to meet in order for them to be ‘keepers’. Guiding questions provide a bridge between the logical mind and the wisdom of the body.
Marie Kondo gave us the ultimate guiding question when she asked, “Does it spark joy?” While this question is brilliant, it can also bring up inner conflict if you feel more than one way about an object. For instance, if an object sparks joy but also stirs up profound sadness, it can be hard to decide if you want to keep the object based solely on the spark joy question. (You can learn more about my perspectives on Tidying Up in episode 22.)
The spark joy question also does not make room for the belongings that may not generate a strong emotional response, but are still important or useful. Other decluttering experts recommend using 2 main questions:
Do I use it? Do I love it?The combination of these questions allows for them to be applied to a much wider range of belongings.
I suggest that you create your own list of 3 to 5 guiding questions that reflect your values and other things that are important to you. In addition to the three questions mentioned above, you can consider these:
Does this object serve my vision? Who am I becoming, and how will this belonging support me? If I lost everything, would I replace this belonging? Does the energy of this object resonate with my personal energy field? Does this belonging contribute positively to my life, my home, my family, and/or my community? Do I have more than one of this belonging?Connecting with your own personal list of questions will help you tune in with your values and what is truly most important to you. This will help you avoid making decisions based on shoulds, supposed tos, have tos, obligation, and guilt.
I’m here to help! If you need some extra support as you’re developing your Intuitive Sorting Skill and Purifying your home, schedule a free consultation. We can get to know each other and see how we could work together to help you meet your decluttering and Purifying goals.

Using Your Intuition to Declutter & PurifyAs you learn to declutter from a holistic perspective, you’ll begin to rely more on your inner wisdom and intuition. In the Purification method, we call this your Intuitive Sorting Skill. In today’s episode, I share:
Why your Intuitive Sorting Skill is so important to your Purification process What the Intuitive Sorting Skill is, exactly (In short, it is a skill that you can develop to use your inner wisdom to help you make quick and clear decisions as you’re decluttering.) How to develop your Intuitive Sorting Skill (even if you don’t think you’re intuitive!) Quick Steps for Developing Your Intuitive Sorting SkillPractice, practice, practice. When you’re learning anything new, it is necessary to give yourself time to practice. Developing your Intuitive Sorting Skill is no exception. You’ll be amazed at how quickly you’ll begin to hone your skill with consistent practice and experimentation.
Ground and center: Receive a few deep centering breaths to bring your full self to the present moment. Meditate: Spend a few minutes breathing mindfully and simply noticing what is transpiring within. You may notice thoughts, feelings, body sensations, and more. Notice and come back to the breath. Pick up a small object and hold it: Receive it fully with your senses. See it with fresh eyes. Let go of its history and simply notice what bubbles up from within as you experience it. Notice how you feel: Does this object resonate with you? Does it clash? Notice your emotions and thoughts. Are there conflicting thoughts and feelings? Ask yourself: Do I want to keep this object? Do I want to let it go?I encourage you to practice using your intuition and inner wisdom to tune in with some objects in your home. If this practice is challenging for you, I’ll be back in the next episode with two specific tips to help. You can also schedule a Clarify to Purify Session for one-on-one support.

Wed, 24 Jun 2020 - 24min - 84 - 76: Tips for Helping Your Loved One Downsize & Purify
Episode Dedication
This week’s episode is dedicated to public academic, writer and lecturer, Rachel Cargle. Rachel’s work on the intersection of race and womanhood is transforming the world. With over 1.7 million followers on Instagram, people are listening. Thank you, Rachel! To tune in with Rachel, check out her website, Instagram and Twitter. Also check out The Great Unlearn.
Tips for Helping Your Loved One Downsize & PurifyIn episode 75, Dyanne Kelley shared her Purification story. She had just 3 weeks to downsize 25 years of accumulated belongings before moving to a new state. She shared that her team of well-meaning friends moved very fast – holding things up and asking rapid-fire questions: Do you want this? Are you keeping that? While this approach helped to get the job done, it also caused some additional stress.
As I’ve mentioned in previous episodes, my own mom is in the process of downsizing. I’ve been experiencing first hand the joys and challenges of helping a loved one downsize after 33 years in one home.
With the experiences of Dyanne, my mom, and myself in mind, I’ve created an episode full of tips for you for supporting a loved one while they downsize and Purify. Here you go!
Consider the Overall Context Know what this process means to your loved one. They may be excited and thrilled to be moving into a new phase of life. They may be grieving the loss of what once was, and/or fearful about what’s to come. Understanding what your loved one is going through can help you bring an energy that matches their experience. Know the timeline. Knowing if there is a hard deadline – and what it is – can help you bring the appropriate level of motivational energy to help get the job done. The process can be quite different for someone who has 3 weeks to downsize versus 3 or 6 months. Someone who is Death Cleaning may not have a specific deadline, but is internally motivated to downsize so family or friends don’t have to deal with their belongings after the person’s death. Know what you’re offering to help with. Are you helping with one room or space, or are you agreeing to help with an entire home? By communicating about what you’re agreeing to up front, you can avoid unmet expectations as you go. Remember the Purification principles. Purification is different from decluttering in that we bring our whole selves to the process. As you’re preparing to help your loved one, consider how you can incorporate intuition, mindfulness, grounding, spiritual practices and energy tools – as well as practical and logistical considerations. Tips for You – the HelperHelping someone to downsize and Purify can be very rewarding, and also intense! Supporting your loved one while they sort through and make decisions about years or even decades of accumulated belongings can be taxing physically, emotionally and mentally. Here are some tips for making sure you’re prepared to bring your most vibrant self to your loved one’s process.
Meet your basic needs. Get plenty of sleep the night before a downsizing session with your loved one. Take along plenty of water, snacks, and even a meal to eat during the day. Bring a dust mask in case of dusty conditions. Be comfortable. Wear comfortable shoes. Choose clothing that is appropriate for the season and also the spaces you’ll be in. Attics can be HOT in the summer and COLD in the winter. Know and keep your boundaries. Know how much time and energy you’re willing and able to give. Communicate about it – and stick to it. Prepare yourself energetically. Use your spiritual practices to juice up your energy field. You can choose crystals to carry with you; send Reiki to yourself, your loved one, and all aspects of the process; pray and meditate. Do whatever you need to feel centered, grounded, and energized. Self-care time. If you feel tired and drained after supporting your loved one in a downsizing session, give yourself some self-care time. Pause. Reflect. Journal. Have a salt bath. Take a walk. Take a nap. Do whatever you need to feel replenished and renewed. Be aware of personal reactions. If you’re helping a parent or grandparent downsize a home from your childhood, be aware of your personal experience. You may feel overjoyed with old memories. You may feel overwhelmed facing things you haven’t seen or thought about for years. You might experience some combination of both. Tips for Helping Your Loved OneHere are some tips specifically designed to support your loved one as they downsize and Purify.
Create a strategy. Get clear on the time frame for the whole project and what the goals are for this specific downsizing session. Be sure you don’t ‘take over’ – talk with your loved one about what they want to accomplish and how you can help. Develop a flow. Decide where you’ll put things that are being kept, donated, tossed, recycled, etc. This will help organize the process and develop a flow. Mindful check ins. As a support person, you have the unique perspective of being in the process and also observing what’s happening. Be sure to pause occasionally to check in – does your loved one need a break, a snack, some water, a chance to talk about how they’re feeling? (Be sure to check in about your own needs, as well!) This approach will help stave off burn out and break downs. Make no assumptions. Be open and curious. Make no assumptions about which objects have value to your loved one – and which ones don’t. Our connections to our belongings are personal and intimate – and sometimes even mysterious! Be patient. Downsizing and Purifying – especially within a tight time frame – can be challenging, stressful, confusing, and agitating. Pause for deep breaths and keep perspective. Listen. As a support person, you are there for more than just the heavy lifting. You can listen and support your loved one in a deeper way. Listen with the ‘third ear’ – hear what your loved one is saying and even what they aren’t talking about.I hope these tips serve you and your loved one well on their downsizing and Purifying adventure!
If you and your loved one need more emotional support or practical planning, I can help. Reach out for a Clarify to Purify Session now.

Wed, 03 Jun 2020 - 30min - 80 - 73: Purifying In The Kitchen: Pots & Pans, Utensils, Dishes, Gadgets, and More
As a follow up to my 2-part interview on food and our kitchen energy with Liza Baker of Simply: Health Coaching, it’s time to talk more about Purifying in the kitchen!
To be effective, enjoyable spaces for food preparation – and eating – it is vital for our kitchens’ energy to be clear and fresh. One of the best ways to accomplish this is through Purifying.
In this episode, I briefly cover Purifying these categories of kitchen belongings:
Pots and pans Cooking and serving utensils Eating utensils Dishes and glassware Food storage containers Wraps, foil, and bags Small appliances Gadgets CookbooksThere is a benefit to Purifying a room that has so many different categories. It allows you to easily take it one step at a time as you sort through each one.
Here are a few steps to follow as you Purify in the kitchen:
Breathe: Receive a few deep, centering breaths to ground and center yourself. Get clear about what your intentions are. Talk with Each Other: If you share your kitchen with another, be sure to communicate. Share your ideas about Purifying and ask for their input. If more than one person cooks in the kitchen, consider collaborating on your kitchen Purification. Identify Your Categories: Your categories may differ from my list above. Take a tour of your kitchen to identify your unique categories. Be sure to consider if there are kitchen belongings that are stored in another area of the home. Write your categories down. This will serve as a basis for your Purification plan. Choose Your Starting Point: Select a category to begin with. Choosing a smaller category or one with less volume of belongings may help! Clear Your Space: Create a clear, open space for Purifying. This may be the kitchen table, island, or even a clean space on the kitchen or living room floor. Give yourself plenty of space to spread items so you can see everything clearly. Sort Your Belongings: Move through each category on your list. Create piles for keep, let go, recycle, and trash. Select a Temporary Storage Space: If you’re not able to donate or otherwise distribute your ‘let go’ belongings right away, create a temporary storage space. This is a vital step so you don’t end up stuffing these objects back into kitchen storage areas! Re-Place and Organize: Put away your ‘keep’ items in a way that makes sense to you. Organize these belongings so you can access them easily and quickly, as needed. Keep it simple. REMEMBER: There Are No Rules: You get to set up your kitchen in any way that makes the most sense to you. Links From This Episode etee: Source for plastic-free food storage. Wed, 13 May 2020 - 31min - 77 - 70: Purifying In Your Purse, Handbag & Wallet
Purifying – in general – is all about what we choose to carry with us into the next phase of life – and what we choose to let go.
Purifying in our purses, handbags and wallets is about what we literally carry with us every day!
The contents of these awesome containers can tell us a lot about ourselves. And, because we see them everyday, we may no longer really see them.
When you give yourself the time to Purify in these areas, you get to see them with fresh eyes and reflect:
What do you want to carry with you? What has gathered here unconsciously? What heavy weight (literal or figurative) can you shed?See the steps below for guidance on Purifying in your purse, handbag and wallet. You can create your own ritual to revisit as needed.
Steps to Purify Your Purse, Handbag & Wallet Take a peak into your handbag or wallet. Notice – without judgment – what has gathered there. Clear a space for Purifying. Give yourself an open, sacred space to work. Consider creating a small altar, smudging, or another ritual. Sit or stand in Presence. Receive a few deep, centering breaths. Feel yourself rooted and grounded. Empty out your handbag and/or wallet. Spread the contents out so you can see them – and feel them energetically. Look at it all with eyes of acceptance. Bring an open, spacious attitude. No judgment. Tune in energetically. Feel what comes up as you look at – and maybe pick up – each object. Allow your intuition to speak to you about what you want to carry and what belongs elsewhere. Notice any themes that arise. Be aware of how these belongings reflect what is happening within. This is the inner Purification. Move the objects into categories. Putting ‘like things’ together will help you see these belongings more clearly. Sort the belongings. Create piles for keep in the bag or wallet, move elsewhere, recycle, and toss. Look at your purse, handbag and/or wallet. Notice how your feel about these containers. Refill your purse, handbag and/or wallet. Allow these spaces to be organized and clear. Add anything extra. Notice if there are other belongings that you intentionally want to carry. These are things that can support you while you’re out in the world. Wed, 01 Apr 2020 - 05min - 75 - 69: Pros and Cons of Decluttering and Purifying While Homebound
There are both pros and cons to starting a decluttering and Purifying process while homebound. I’ll share a few of each. Let’s start with the cons; there are 2 main ones to be aware of.
Cons to Decluttering & Purifying While Homebound Tensions May Already Be High. If you live with someone else and you are both homebound at this time, anxiety and tensions may already be running high. Starting an in-depth decluttering process amidst the increased global stress and disrupted schedules may only serve to cause more disruption. Digging into things that have been tucked away for years or even decades may stir up a lot of emotion and energy. It may turn out to be more stressful than it is satisfying or productive. No Current Channels for Distribution. Due to the precautions associated with decreasing the spread of COVID-19 (such as closure of non-life sustaining businesses and social distancing), the normal avenues for distributing items you’re letting go are likely unavailable. This means you will need to have a staging area available for storing the belongings you are planning to sell, share, or donate. Having piles of old stuff in your home may increase your stress, rather than providing a sense of relief at having decluttered. Pros to Decluttering & Purifying While Homebound You’re At Home With Time On Your Hands. One of the biggest challenges with Purifying is finding the time. If you’re working from home or off work, you may have come into some extra time! If you dedicate some time now, you may be able to complete a Purifying project you’ve been putting off. It Gives You Something To Focus On. Diving in to a Purification process may be just the thing to help focus your anxious energy. In this unusual and uncertain time, starting a project that has a definite end point can be soothing. It Could Fuel Your Spiritual Awakening. Purifying is a spiritual practice. When you become clear about what you choose to carry with you, and what you choose to let go, you become more conscious. When you challenge old rules about what you should include in your life, you become more empowered. This is a sacred opportunity for growth and expansion. You know yourself best. I encourage you to bring awareness to what you choose to Purify and what you allow to remain untouched. Remember, you can start small with a micro area or one shelf or drawer. You can practice your Daily Purifying Ritual with one or two areas of your home.
Or, you can dive in to a big Purification process with your eyes wide open.
If you’d like some help and support, I’m here for you. All of my services are virtual, so I can join you via phone or Zoom wherever you are in the world. You can learn more about Clarify to Purify sessions and schedule by clicking HERE.

Wed, 25 Mar 2020 - 22min - 74 - 68: Eleven Quick Tips for Calming in Times of Global Stress
11 Quick Tips For Calming In Times Of Global Stress
In order to survive and potentially thrive in times of global stress, it is necessary to lean in to our coping skills consistently and often. Here are 11 to get you feeling calmer right away. These tips are easy, accessible, and some are even fun! (Imagine that!)
Breathe – This one is easy to forget, and vital to remember. Let’s receive a deep, centering breath together now. Inhale……………….. Exhale ……………….. In just 5 or 10 seconds, you can immediately begin to calm your inner state.
Smile – Allow a small, gentle smile to blossom on your face, in your eyes, and on your heart. Notice how this shifts your energy field and perspective. Go ahead…. try it now. (If you need some help getting started, try this link for something to smile about.)
Laugh – As they say, laughter is the best medicine. Laughing raises our vibration and helps us take life a little less seriously. In times that feel so dire, some levity is always welcome. Try out this classic YouTube vid for some inspiration.
Dance – I dare you. In a time of such intensity, do you have the gall to dance? I do. And it’s fantastic. Dancing moves and shifts your energy. Combined with upbeat music, it will raise the vibration of your entire home. Here are a couple of my favorite songs to dance to: song one, song two. Dance dorkily, dance from a chair. Simply dare to dance.
Purify – You can Purify internally by practicing awareness of your thoughts and emotions. As you notice how your inner state is impacted by the thoughts you think, you can begin to choose new ones. You can Purify a micro area in your home (check out episode #35) or use your Daily Purifying Ritual to clear a space (check out episode #65). The act of Purifying (whether inner or outer) will shift your vibration and bring greater calm.
Unplug – Give yourself a social media pause for an hour or a few days. Unplug your energy field from the drama of the news cycle. This will allow your nervous system to reset. This is also an opportunity to stop feeding the “pain body”. Give it a try and see what happens.
Connect – Reach out to a conscious friend. Walk in nature. Communicate with your angels or guides. Connect more deeply with yourself through journaling, a warm bath, or drinking a cup of tea. Listen to or read the work of high vibration spiritual teachers. I love Eckhart Tolle’s books The Power of Now and A New Earth. Who are your go-to teachers?
Practice – Meditate, do yoga, pray, send Reiki, Purify, do breathing exercises. Whatever your spiritual practices are, now is the time to use them.
Slow Down – When we become anxious, we tend to speed up. We often want to accomplish and produce more to feel in control. Slowing down allows us to become present. We can feel the inner body and the breath. We can more fully experience whatever we’re doing right now. This helps to stop the incessant stream of thinking. Slow down and welcome calm.
Savor – Bring your senses alive. Taste your food. Really listen to the sounds around you. Allow your eyes to revel in the sites you see. Linger in a hug. Savor each moment.
Open – When facing uncertainty, we often contract and shut down. We become fearful and turn away. What if you choose to open? Open your heart, your mind, your senses… What if, in the midst of the unknown, you breathe more deeply and open your spirit? Try it. You can always contract for a while and then try again.
These are intense times. There is a call for calm.Right now, in mid-March 2020, we are collectively facing the impacts of the spread of the coronavirus. We are in the midst of quarantines, social distancing, temporary school and business closures, and more.
It is a time of uncertainty and unknowns. Many of us are experiencing varying levels of fear. Some of the fear is due to health and safety concerns for ourselves and our loved ones. Some of the fear is related to financial concerns and the availability of resources.
Underlying these practical concerns, we also feel the global fear: the collective primal fear of death and annihilation.
We experience the global stress as low level anxiety or intense fear – or an ongoing dance of both. In order to survive and potentially thrive in times of stress, it is necessary to lean in to our coping skills consistently and often.
The tips from this episode can be applied to many situations, including your Purification process. So whether you’re managing your global stress or simply preparing to Purify a closet, these tips are here to support you.

Wed, 18 Mar 2020 - 21min - 73 - 67: How Your Words Can Support Your Purifying & Decluttering (...or hold it back)
Your words are powerful. Whether you’re aware of it or not, they help create the reality you experience. The words you use and the way you talk about your Purification process have a direct effect on how it unfolds.
In this episode, I share my perspective on three words and phrases that people often use related to the decluttering process.
I choose not to use these words because, to me, they do not feel energetically aligned with Purifying. They feel heavy and bring a negative energy to the process.
Purge Get Rid Of Dumping GroundLanguage choices are personal. You may feel differently about these words and phrases than I do. I encourage you to feel the vibration of the words you use. This practice will help you ensure that they are aligned with the reality you want to experience. You’ll get to try out feeling the vibration of some words and phrases during this episode!
I also talk about the general language we may unconsciously use when talking about decluttering. Things like:
This is going to take forever… I hate doing this… I’m never going to get it done… This sucks.
When we make word choices like those, it’s no wonder that we don’t feel motivated and inspired to declutter! Discovering language that accurately describes your experience while also bringing positive energy to the process makes a world of difference.
You can hear more about how I began using the words Purify and Purification rather than solely using decluttering here: 10: What Does Purification Mean To You?
I’m excited to hear what you discover about your word choices in this episode. Email me at michael@letspurify.energy with your insights.
If you need some help shifting your language or jump starting your Purifying, don't hesitate to schedule a Clarify to Purify Session with me. The personalized one-on-one coaching in this session could be the catalyst that finally ignites your process! Click here to learn more and schedule.
Until next time, choose aligned language and keep on Purifying!
Wed, 11 Mar 2020 - 25min - 72 - 66: Purifying In The Attic: Creating A Soulful Strategy
After helping my mom clean out her attic recently, I knew I wanted to create an episode around the process.
There are many aspects of Purifying in the attic to explore. (I’m sure there will be more attic-focused episodes in the future!) This particular episode is about creating an effective strategy for getting the job done. Equally as important, we also focus on honoring your inner experience and emotions.
Clearing and Purifying an attic is a big job. It can be dusty, very hot (or very cold), and generally overwhelming. Attics store not only decades (and sometimes generations) of belongings, but also the energy of memories, nostalgia, and the evidence of life.
Making the commitment to get in there and do it is big. If you’re considering Purifying in the attic soon (your own or a relative’s), I commend you. Here are some tips for creating a strategy so the task is less overwhelming and more easeful.
This is not an all-inclusive list, and hopefully it will provide a starting place so you can feel empowered to begin.
Creating an Effective & Soulful Attic Purifying Strategy First things first, we begin with the breath. Remember to receive some deep, centering breaths as you begin to create your strategy. This will allow you to tend to any feelings of overwhelm while still moving forward. Next, take stock with a quick inventory. With pen and paper in hand, head up to the attic for 10 to 20 minutes to take stock of the contents. Make notes of the various categories of belongings (such as, photos, clothing, books, holiday decorations, etc.). Notice the energy of the objects and the emotions they bring up. Make note of who the various objects belong to. Also consider any practical and logistical concerns (such as, heavy boxes or furniture you’ll need assistance moving and any environmental issues like extreme heat or cold and dust). Brainstorm about the distribution of the stuff. While you will likely hold on to some of the treasures from the attic, you will need to distribute many other things. Review the categories from your inventory and consider options such as: donation centers, consignment shops, vintage clothing stores (like Miss Ruth’s Time Bomb in Carlisle, PA), online selling, sharing with friends and family, recycling, and trash hauling. Create a time frame for the process. You may need to Purify due to an outside time constraint, or perhaps you’re being proactive and getting started with a wide open time frame. Either way, it is important to consider the pros and cons of your strategy. Communicate with anyone who has belongings stored in the attic. Be sure to give a heads up to these folks so they can have a say in (i.e., take responsibility for) the distribution of their stuff. Let them know what types of belongings are there and the time frame for your Purification process. Create an attic Purifying team. Begin connecting with some family and friends who can help with the sorting, moving, and distributing of these belongings. Attic Purifying can be labor-intensive, so having a small team of strong, motivated helpers can move the process along! Plan for sensible and reasonable Purifying time blocks. Since Purifying in the attic can be intense both physically and emotionally (not to mention energetically), be sure to plan on small blocks of time. Consider scheduling out several 2 to 4 hour windows at first to see how you and your team hold up. Consider finding a temporary storage space for things that need to be sorted later. My mom had several boxes of paper memorabilia and family history. We are fortunate that my sister offered to store those boxes temporarily so we didn’t need to make quick decisions in the moment about those items. Create staging areas in the main area of the home for things that will be distributed. This distribution phase of the attic Purifying is important! If you don’t attend to it, you’ll be left with a house full of the attic stuff… Commit for the long haul. While the process may seem daunting, it will be worth it. Be sure to consider your “why” and what is inspiring you to Purify in the attic. The last, and most important, step in the strategy is to tend to yourself in the Purifying process. It is a LOT physically, emotionally, and energetically to clear out an attic. Be sure you have self-care in place so you can make it for the long haul. Check out episode 44: Five Ways To Attend To Your Emotions As You Declutter & Purify for more support there. How are you holding up after reading through all of that? Let’s receive another nice deep, centering breath together. While it is a huge job, Purifying in the attic may be one of the most satisfying and rewarding things you can do. Most folks have been ‘meaning to get to it’ for a long time.
Imagine the energy that will be freed up when it’s finally complete. You can do this.
If you’re feeling lost and overwhelmed at the thought of Purifying in the attic, I’d love to help! A Clarify to Purify phone or Zoom session may be just what you need. We can explore the emotions that are coming up and work together to create a personalized strategy that fits for you. Often, having the sacred space to talk with a coach who understands you and the process can create a powerful internal shift.

Wed, 04 Mar 2020 - 31min - 71 - 65: A Three-Step Daily Purifying Ritual
Is there a space in your home that always seems to become disorganized and chaotic? It may be your kitchen island, coffee table, desk, or nightstand…
These spaces of disarray can lead to feelings of anxiety, confusion, and inner chaos.
Practicing this simple, yet powerful, 3-Step Daily Purifying Ritual can help! In just 3 to 5 minutes a day, you can transform a chaotic space into a peaceful, harmonious zone.
Try it for yourself to see what unfolds. You may feel calmer and more ready to begin each day. Or perhaps you’ll develop some new mindful habits around these spaces.
Are you ready to begin this sacred process in your home? Here are the three steps to the ritual.
A Three-Step Daily Purifying RitualStep 1: Ground and Center Stand or sit in front of the area you’ll be tending to with your ritual. Receive a nice, deep centering breath. Allow your heart to be light. Really see this area with fresh eyes. Free of judgment, notice what has gathered here.
Step 2: Purify Re-place the objects that have gathered here to their appropriate places. If something doesn’t belong, place it where it does. Straighten up. Consider letting go of any objects that are no longer serving you. Bring clarity and visual harmony to this space as you Purify.
Step 3: Bless the Space Infuse this refreshed zone with an intention. Express your gratitude. Send Reiki or other high vibration energy to the space. Pull an angel or oracle card for a message for the space. Whatever feels good to you and seals in the new vibration you have created here.
That’s it!
Quick, easy, powerful.
I’m excited to hear what this ritual practice is like for you. Feel free to leave a comment below. And until next time, keep on Purifying!

Fri, 07 Feb 2020 - 05min - 67 - 62: Creating Sanctuary in Home, Body, and Life with Helen Joy Butler
Helen Joy Butler introduces us to the concept of Sanctuary in part one of this two-part interview. To create Sanctuary is to create space in your home, body and life that will help you feel calm, connected and in the flow as much as possible.
Who couldn’t use more Sanctuary in today’s world?
Helen combines practical and spiritual practices to coach highly sensitive, aware women to thrive by developing Sanctuary in their lives.
What I really love about Helen’s message is that when we have cultivated our inner Sanctuary, we can carry that strong, vibrant heart energy out into the world. With our sense of Sanctuary firmly rooted within, we can share our most authentic and loving selves and contribute to healing in the collective.
As you’ll hear, Sanctuary and Purification are kindred concepts and practices. I hope that learning about Sanctuary will deepen your appreciation for the power of our homes’ and hearts’ energies.
Be sure to join us for part two of our interview where we’ll talk about Elemental Space Clearing and surrendering on the path to Sanctuary.

Adrienne Thoman, a friend and fellow podcaster, joined me this week to talk about her journey with minimalism.
I used to think that minimalism was a stark, bright white, and bleak affair. My interview with Adrienne showed me a new perspective. With her ever-present warmth and humor, Adrienne teaches us that you can define minimalism in whatever way will support you best.
HINT: It’s all about living with intention, appreciation, and creativity.

Tue, 28 Jan 2020 - 07min - 64 - 60: A Guided Meditation for Inner and Outer Purification
As I shared in episode 57: Happy New Year! (and what’s in store for 2020), I’m planning to integrate more ‘internal’ or ‘inner’ Purification into the podcast and my services this year. This week’s episode is designed to do just that.
This 20-minute guided meditation gives you a direct experience of Inner Purification. Not sure what Inner Purification means just yet? Give the meditation a try and see what comes up for you!
All you need to do is find a space in your home that you’re interested in Purifying*, and bring yourself to sit comfortably there. Be sure you won’t be interrupted for about 20 minutes and turn on the episode. (The meditation begins around minute 4 - after the introduction.) You may want to have a pen and paper available to jot down any insights that arise at the end.
You can return to this meditation any time. You will become more aware of the connection between your outer experience (your home and belongings) and what’s transpiring within you.
I’m excited to hear what this episode is like for you! Send me an email (michael@letspurify.energy) or leave a comment below.
Until next time, keep on Purifying!

Wed, 01 Jan 2020 - 13min - 60 - 56: Growing Your 2020 Vision & the December Podcast Pause
When you have a clear vision for your home or a particular room it can lend clarity to your Purification process.
…but what if you don’t yet have a clear vision?
You may be crystal clear about what you no longer want in your home (density, clutter, heaviness, old meaningless stuff, etc.), but you may not be sure about what type of space you’re creating.
The good news is that’s okay!
In this episode, I share some tips for tuning in and growing your vision – a little bit at a time.
Your vision may begin with something very small such as a color, vibration, emotion, or sound. From here you can begin to notice if your belongings resonate and harmonize with the aspects of your vision that you do have access to.
I hope this episode helps to take some pressure off the idea of having a fully formed vision, so you can get started from right where you are.
REMEMBER: The podcast will be on pause for the month of December. Episodes will resume on Wednesday, January 1, 2020!
During the podcast pauses I do continue to see clients, so feel free to book a Clarify to Purify session or a discovery call for Purify Your Home. I am excited to serve you and your growing vision!
Until we connect again, keep on Purifying!

Wed, 13 Nov 2019 - 31min - 57 - 53: Could a System Breakdown Be a Good Sign?
I have lots of Purification systems in my home that help me to stay organized. These systems help with efficiency and also bring a sense of balance and rhythm to my days. I bet you have your favorite home systems, too!
Recently, I noticed that my email inbox system for my personal and business emails wasn’t working well at all. I typically address emails once or twice a day. This keeps my email inbox pretty clean, with just emails that represent open tasks remaining in my inbox. Somehow both email inboxes had accumulated a whole bunch of clutter that I wasn’t addressing. Oops!
Now, this episode isn’t actually about email systems… It is about becoming aware of when your home systems aren’t functioning well (whether it’s your email, your snail mail, your laundry, or anything else).
This awareness leads to assessing what’s going on internally that is causing this system breakdown. Why hasn’t this system been working? What has shifted that you’re not attending to it as you typically do?
Contrary to popular belief, it is possible that this system breakdown may be a sign of positive shifts, expansion or growth that are happening within. The only way to be clear is to sit with this breakdown and notice what you notice. This is the essence of Home Energy Purification.
My inbox clutter was a sign that my email wasn’t getting as much attention because I was in the midst of addressing some inner turmoil. I needed to clear out some inside stuff before I turned my attention back to my daily email Purifying rituals.
Sometimes things become muddy and unclear as we’re breaking down old beliefs and habits. This inner breakdown allows new, more balanced and efficient systems to emerge. Isn’t that good news?
Are your systems breaking down and you’re not clear why? Let’s clarify!
Wed, 06 Nov 2019 - 11min - 56 - 52: Purifying In The Clothes Closet
Decluttering in your clothes closet can bring up a lot of confusion and tough feelings. In this episode, I share some common challenges that people face while sorting through their clothing. I also share eight tips to bring ease and acceptance to your process.
Eight Tips for Purifying In Your Clothes Closet- Create a vision: Having a vision for your closet and clothing will give you an overall sense of what types of clothing are a fit for you. Identify your most authentic self: Notice the clothing that makes you feel comfortable in your skin. This will help you make clear decisions about what you truly want to keep. Honor your sensitivities: Allow yourself to let go of clothing that is uncomfortable to wear, and therefore you typically avoid. Try everything on: Take nothing for granted and make no assumptions. Discover a method that works for you: Whether you go one shelf at a time, or pile all of your clothing up on the bed, find a method that will allow you to stick with the process and complete it. Bring an energy of openness, curiosity and fun to the process: Turn on some music, put a smile on your face and get to it! Allow emotions to rise and flow: As you’re opening up the space of your closet, you may open up some emotions within. Allowing them to flow will help you release both inner and outer ‘stuff’. Make up your own rules: You do not have to adhere to anyone else’s methods, ideas, rules, or shoulds. Discover what feels right to you.
If you’re struggling to Purify your clothes closet, let’s connect for a Clarify to Purify session. Together, we can sort through what’s been holding you back and create a plan to get started. Imagine how open and welcoming your closet could become!

Wed, 30 Oct 2019 - 28min - 55 - 51: "What's The Oldest Thing You Own & Still Use?"
Several months ago, I saw a meme on Facebook posted by craftyfundotcom that said:
What’s the oldest thing you own & still use?
craftyfundotcomI love this question! It’s an invitation to explore and celebrate the belongings in our homes that have history and heritage.
When we Purify, we are shedding and releasing the belongings that no longer serve us. This opens up space to clearly see and appreciate the belongings that we choose to keep. Some of those objects may be old treasures and relics from earlier times, things connected to our family lineage or sweet old memories.
As I share about in episode 50: When You Want to Hold On & Let Go at the Same Time, sometimes we choose to (and even need to) let go of the old things in our lives. Today’s episode is about celebrating the old things that we still use and love!
What is the oldest thing that you still use and love? Email me, or post a comment below or on social media. Facebook / Instagram I’d love to hear from you!

Get Your Clarify to Purify Session HereWed, 23 Oct 2019 - 07min - 54 - 50: When You Want to Hold On & Let Go at the Same Time
As you practice Purifying, you strengthen your ‘intuitive sorting skill’ and Purifying becomes easier and easier. You’ll begin feeling clear and confident in your decisions of what you hold on to and what you let go.
However, you may encounter a few objects that bring up strong feelings of confusion or ambivalence. You may find you want to hold on to an object just as much as you want to let it go!
In this week’s episode I share an example from my own life. I recently worked through some ongoing uncertainty about two objects from my childhood. When I finally (after a few years!) came to a clear decision about letting go of these belongings, old patterns started shifting in my life. (This is powerful stuff...)
Tap on THIS LINK for a photo of "Hugs" and "Baby" - the two belongings I decided to let go using aspects of the Purification method.

Wed, 16 Oct 2019 - 33min - 53 - 49: When Letting Go Is Necessary To Evolve & Grow: Seth's Story
It was an honor and joy to interview my dear friend Seth Dellinger on this week’s episode!
Recently, Seth – who is a big time music lover – shared that he was letting go of his vinyl collection. Naturally, I was intrigued, so I invited him onto the show to talk about it.
Throughout our interview, we explored the history of his vinyl collection, the way it had shaped his identity, and his decision to let it go.
I want to keep growing and evolving, and having a massive collection of music that you liked 20 years ago is not conducive to that sort of evolution.
Seth DellingerSeth is insightful and interesting. We dove deep into ways this collection was holding him back and why it was so important to let it go.
I referenced this episode in the interview: 34: Has Your Beloved Collection Become a Burden?.

Wed, 09 Oct 2019 - 35min - 52 - 48: Facing The Fear of Empty Space With Confidence
As you Purify, you will naturally be opening up new space in your home. The possibility of empty space can stir emotions due to the uncertainty or loss that may come with it.
If you experience anxiety at the thought of the emptiness that will follow your Purification process, here are some suggestions to work through it with confidence:
Before you remove the object(s) from the space, visualize the empty space. Feel into the emotions and body sensations that arise. Explore and process those emotions through journaling, talking with a friend, or in a Clarify to Purify session with me. Infuse the space with the energetic qualities you would like to have there, like Love, Joy or Peace. You can also channel Reiki to the space as discussed in episode #46: Channeling Reiki to Support Your Decluttering Process. Create a vision for the newly opened space. Your Vision can act as an energetic ‘bridge’ between the empty space and what’s to come. After you let go of the object(s), sit in the empty space and, again, notice what emotions and body sensations arise. Explore and process those emotions and sensations.Need more support as you navigate your concerns about empty space? I’d love to help. An 80-minute Clarify to Purify session may be all you need to move through this block and on to the open, airy, light home you’ve been yearning for.

Wed, 02 Oct 2019 - 17min - 51 - 47: How To Connect With Your Purification Spirit Animal
Just like the angels and other spirit guides can support your Purification and decluttering process, so too can the animals.
“All animals and insects – whether two- or multi-legged, feathered or finned, from water, earth or sky – have the potential to deliver a special message aligned with your authentic need, arriving at just the right time or place.”
Colette Baron-Reid, creator of The Spirit Animal OracleIn this episode, I share my own experience of connecting with a spirit animal, and how that animal informs and supports Purifying. This animal carries the spirit and essence of Purification. You can lean into its energy anytime! (Give the episode a listen to discover what it is.)
Here are some steps for connecting with your Purification spirit animal:
Meditate or pray for guidance and connection with the ideal animal to support your process Pay attention when you’re in nature to what animals you are drawn to Feel into the message this animal is sending you. If it resonates and feels true – it is! Contact me and I would love to draw a spirit animal card on your behalf from Colette Baron-Reid’s The Spirit Animal Oracle deck. Email me at michael@letspurify.energy or message me or post on Facebook or Instagram: @letspurifyYou can see 2 examples of cards from this deck in my Weekly Purification & Decluttering Guidance posts:
Bat Spirit Panther SpiritI also share a few ways for you to work with your animal spirit as you’re Purifying.
At the beginning of the episode, I shared a lovely Apple Podcasts review of the podcast from Sarah Steckler. Sarah joined me on the podcast for episode 13: Digital Declutter with Sarah Steckler. You can check her out on her Mindful Productivity website. She’s amazing!
Many blessings, my friend. May you connect with a spirit animal that uplifts and supports your Purification process.
Until next time, keep on Purifying!
Wed, 25 Sep 2019 - 23min - 50 - 46: Channeling Reiki To Support Your Decluttering Process
There are infinite ways to incorporate Reiki into your Purification and decluttering process. In this episode, I go over three main ways Reiki can support you and your home as you Purify:
Reiki can serve as a form of self-care. Channeling Reiki to yourself can help ground and calm you before you get started. When you take a break you can give yourself more Reiki! Channeling Reiki to your home and belongings raises the vibration. It helps to open the way and bring ease to the process. Using the Reiki symbols can provide creative ways to empower your process, support you mentally and emotionally, and send healing energy to past events and future Purifying sessions. If you’re new to Reiki I also share some Reiki basics at the beginning of the episode. Here are a few of my favorite Reiki resources:
Essential Reiki by Diane Stein The Complete Book of Traditional Reiki by Amy Rowland Intuitive Reiki for Our Times by Amy Rowland The International Center for Reiki TrainingI hope this episode inspires you to bring the power and intelligence of Reiki into your home and into your decluttering process.

Wed, 18 Sep 2019 - 30min - 49 - 45: Purifying In The Bathroom: Beauty Products & Medicine Cabinets
Welcome to the second episode in this ongoing series about Purifying in various rooms of the home. If you missed Episode 38: Purifying In The Kitchen, be sure to check it out!
Today is all about Purifying old beauty products, medicine cabinet items, reading material, and anything else that accumulates in the bathroom. (I don’t think I actually mentioned makeup in the episode. Oops! That was a big oversight since makeup often ends up in the bathroom’s “product graveyard.”)
When you clear and Purify your bathroom, you create a sacred space for your daily rituals and self-care. As you Purify, you let go of anything you’re no longer using, that doesn’t work for your body, or that is expired or outdated. This increases the vibration of the whole room!
If you struggle with throwing things away as you Purify, consider listening to Episode 36: The Good News About Landfill Guilt.
Purifying the entire bathroom at once may feel like too much. If so, consider starting with a micro area like one drawer or one shelf of the medicine cabinet.
Be sure to check with your pharmacy or local government agency for guidance on how to properly dispose of outdated or unused prescription medications.
If you’re loving the podcast and you're an Apple user, please share a review on Apple Podcasts/iTunes! (Click on "Listen on Apple Podcasts" and then go to Ratings and Reviews) This small act will help the podcast to grow; it lets potential listeners know what you love about the show!

Okay… on to the details from this week’s episode…
As we Purify, we are shifting and disrupting old emotional and energetic patterns. A wide variety of emotions may bubble up to the surface as we open up those bags, boxes, and storage spaces. I noticed this firsthand recently as I was Purifying a closet. It had become an unconscious, messy storage space – it was time to Purify!
Here are five ways to attend to your emotions during a Purification session:
- Have reasonable expectations – relieve pressure and anxiety up front by establishing a reasonable timeline, or even an open timeline, for your process Prepare yourself for the process – ground and center with deep breathing or meditation. Also remind yourself of what Purifying means to you and why you’re diving into this process Make sure your basic needs are met – be well-rested, fed, and hydrated before you get started. Continue drinking water throughout your session Allow emotions to flow – create space for what wants to emerge without stuffing it back down Maintain a mindful, curious, and kind attitude – do your best to avoid judging the emotions that arise
I hope these tips help you to maintain your emotional center as you Purify.

When you’re starting a decluttering or Purification session, I recommend setting a timer. When the timer goes off, it’s time for a break! You can stretch, get some water, walk outside for some fresh air… Whatever you need to refresh yourself. This will help you stay the course and avoid burnout.

Wed, 31 Jul 2019 - 13min - 44 - 042 A Resource for Empowering Your Purification Process
I start off this episode with a few tips for circulating and freshening up the energy of your home. My own home’s energy was feeling stuck and stagnant after having the air conditioning on for several days.
Opening windows Burning sage Turning on a fan Drumming Drawing an oracle card - See the Rhino Spirit card here!Next I share a resource for increasing your empowerment as you Purify. The Power of TED* by David Emerald is an amazing book that introduces a simple and powerful remedy for our victim-oriented thinking.
Moving from the victim role to the creator role helps us to shift our focus away from ‘problems’ to ‘visions and outcomes’. Focusing on problems tends to leave us feeling anxious and ineffective. Focusing on visions and outcomes generates passion and empowerment for what we’re creating.
Tune in to the episode for more on the powerful ways that these shifts can positively impact your Purification process.

Wed, 26 Jun 2019 - 25min - 39 - 037 Discovering Exciting Recycling & Upcycling Programs
I recently discovered the most amazing recycling program, you guys! After my husband Purified his closet, he had a stack of old blue jeans that were too worn out for donation. I feared that they were destined for the trash, which I really wanted to avoid (especially after last week’s episode on Landfill Guilt).
Before we went that route, I did a Google search for people or programs who accept old denim for projects or recycling.
I. Hit. The. Jackpot. In mere moments, I discovered Blue Jeans Go Green, an organization that recycles old denim into insulation for Habitat for Humanity.
Talk about win-win-win! My husband’s old, worn out jeans are no longer stacked up in my kitchen and they aren’t destined for the landfill! Instead they’re being recycled into a useful building material for an awesome non-profit organization.
As you’ll hear in the episode, discovering new and exciting recycling and upcycling options gets me so jazzed up! It fuels my passion for Home Energy Purification, and I just want to shout it from the rooftops.
My hope is that my recycling win will serve as encouragement for you to seek out new options for your old stuff too.
Please share about your recycling and upcycling finds, so we can spread the word! Email me at michael@letspurify.energy. I may share your find on the podcast, too.
Until next time, my friends, stay inspired and keep on Purifying!
Wed, 19 Jun 2019 - 11min - 38 - 036 The Good News About Landfill Guilt
'Landfill guilt’ is the sensation that many sensitive, spiritual, and environmentally conscious people feel about throwing things away.
We really don’t want our old broken stuff adding more volume to the already overflowing landfills as we Purify and declutter our homes.
Landfill guilt can lead to making poor decisions. We may donate items that are essentially trash to charitable organizations. Or we may unconsciously hold on to broken, non-functioning items, thus creating small personal landfills in our homes.
The good news about landfill guilt is that we can transform this feeling into fuel. This fuel can power new, conscious decisions going forward – and can help us to make peace with our choices up to this point.

Wed, 12 Jun 2019 - 24min - 37 - 035 When A 'Micro Area' Of Your Home Is Massively Aggravating! (And How To Shift It)
When the 'micro' areas of our homes become disorganized or chaotic it can be massively aggravating.
These everyday spaces like kitchen utility drawers, storage baskets, jewelry boxes, junk drawers, clothing drawers, etc. are an intimate part of our daily routines. If they are unpleasant to the eye or inconvenient to navigate, our flow is compromised and a little bit of our energy drains away.
In this episode, you'll hear my story of recently transforming a micro area of my home. In a few short minutes it went from incredibly annoying to delightfully serene!

Wed, 05 Jun 2019 - 20min - 36 - 034 Has Your Beloved Collection Become A Burden?
Collections can be a source of great joy and entertainment. Collecting can be a delightful hobby full of excitement and satisfaction.
But what happens when we outgrow a collection interest or the collection itself starts to feel heavy or burdensome?
In today's episode, I share a personal story of a collection from my childhood and teen years that I outgrew. I used my Home Energy Purification process to find creative ways to break up the old energy of the collection, while also reconnecting with the original seed of delight that the collection gave me.
It's okay for our interests to evolve, grow and change over the years. Your collection interests will likely shift too. If you find yourself feeling ambivalent or conflicted about a collection, I encourage you to give this episode a listen. Perhaps my story will inspire a new clarity or shift within.
I referred to an old Sesame Street segment in the episode. Do you remember it? I was so fascinated by it.

Wed, 29 May 2019 - 20min - 35 - 033 Is All This Excess Clutter a Sign of Hoarding?
Because excess clutter can sometimes mistakenly be thought of as hoarding, I dedicated this episode to providing some facts and information about Hoarding Disorder.
The information about hoarding for today's episode comes from the International OCD Foundation and the Anxiety and Depression Association of America.
In this episode I cover:
The clinical diagnosis criteria for Hoarding Disorder The reasons some people hoard Hoarding vs. Collecting Demographic information about Hoarding Disorder What makes decluttering difficult for people who hoard Treatment strategies for hoarding How to have a conversation with someone who is ready for help with her/his hoardingHere is a link to the Hoarding Fact Sheet from IOCDF.
Here is a link to the Clutter Image Rating Scale from IOCDF with the 9 pictures of 3 different rooms in various states from completely uncluttered to severe hoarding.
I hope this information provides clarity and understanding.

Fri, 17 May 2019 - 06min - 33 - 032 When Your Partner Isn't Willing or Able to Declutter His/Her Stuff
When you share a home with another person, it can be a source of tension, anxiety and even conflict when your partner isn’t willing or able to declutter his/her stuff.
In this episode, I share three suggestions for what to do when someone else isn’t catching the Purification wave.
Here they are in brief:
Be sure you to focus on decluttering your own ‘stuff’ before focusing on what another is or isn’t doing. There are many gifts to be received when you center your energy on what you have control over. Do your best to communicate with your partner about how his/her unaddressed stuff is impacting you and your home. If open communication is a challenge, it may be helpful to seek counseling or relationship coaching. Explore what the presence of your partner’s stuff represents to you in your life, your home, and in the relationship. Even though it isn’t your stuff, it is still showing up in your life experience. Perhaps there is meaning, purpose or value to be gleaned in exploring it through journaling or other means. At the beginning of the episode, I also share a bit of vulnerability because I’m not 100% satisfied with how I sound in this one! I felt like I was talking fast and my voice was quivering at times. I had to decide whether to let it go or re-record. Obviously, I opted to let it go. :) I hope it isn’t too distracting and that the points I shared are valuable to you.
Until next time, my friend, keep on purifying!
Wed, 15 May 2019 - 14min - 32 - 031 Nine Steps to Mindfully Declutter Your Filing Cabinet

All of that paper and its associated energy can really weigh you down.
If you’re ready to Purify your filing cabinet and let go of the paper you no longer need or want, this episode is for you!

Wed, 08 May 2019 - 14min - 31 - 030 Cutting Energetic Cords Using Home Energy Purification
When we remain energetically connected to painful experiences and relationships from the past, our energy can leak away. Cutting energetic cords between ourselves and those events or people can allow healing to occur.
Often we have objects in our homes that represent those painful experiences, events or relationships from the past. In today’s episode, I share a personal story about using Home Energy Purification techniques to cut cords with a person from my past. Following my intuition each step of the way, I transformed and let go of the energy of an object in my home, healed an aspect of myself, and moved forward with greater vibrancy and joy.
I hope this episode inspires you to deepen your exploration of the objects in your home and what they represent. It's so powerful and liberating to cut those cords when the timing is right.

There are a lot of claims about the benefits of Himalayan salt lamps. I have not done extensive research about them, and I do not know if they are all true.
What I do know is how salt lamps impact my daily life and spiritual path.
In this episode, I talk about a few of the salt lamp claims. I also talk about how I use salt lamps in my own life, the benefits I have experienced, as well as how salt lamps can enhance your Purification process.

Wed, 06 Mar 2019 - 03min - 26 - 025 When You're Afraid to Let Go of Anything Because You Might Need It Someday
No one likes the feeling of experiencing the initial freedom of letting go of something just to realize 6 months later (or 6 days later!) that they need that thing again.
There is an inherent risk built into decluttering and Purifying. In this listener requested episode, I share some ways to minimize the risk of letting go of something that may be needed in the future. I also explore how shifting into an abundance mindset, tapping into creativity, and trusting your vision can really help set your mind at ease!

Wed, 27 Feb 2019 - 21min - 25 - 024 The Top Reasons To Listen To Music As You Declutter
In my opinion, life is better with a soundtrack. So, of course, I love bringing music into the Home Energy Purification process.
As I share in more depth in this episode, when you listen to music as you Purify you can use it to:
Set a high vibration tone for your process Increase inspiration and motivation Shake up old stuck, stagnant energy Tap into a particular era of your life Process and move tough emotions, especially angerHere are links to the songs I referred to:
Let It All Go ~ Beats Antique I dare you to try to sit still with THIS playing!

Wed, 13 Feb 2019 - 25min - 23 - 022 Tidying Up & Purification: Similarities, Differences, and My Tidying Experiment
Marie Kondo has lit the decluttering and organizing world on fire in such a good way! Since she is everywhere* right now, I wanted to take the opportunity to share about some of the similarities and differences between Tidying Up/KonMari method and Home Energy Purification.
* In my opinion, when you have a best selling book and a Netflix Original series in your area of expertise, you are everywhere…
I really respect and appreciate Tidying Up and the KonMari method. In this episode, I share about some of the KonMari aspects that align beautifully with Home Energy Purification. I also touch on some aspects that don’t resonate with me and my method as much.
In preparation for this episode, I decided to ‘tidy up’ one of my dresser drawers to see what all the fuss was about. You guys… I love it! I’m not sure if I’ll adopt this method for all of my clothes or not, but I’m loving what I’ve done so far. Check out the episode page at letspurify.energy/podcast to see the pics!

Caitlin Clarke shares about what she experienced in a 90-minute Home Energy Purification phone session with me that took place in November 2018.
Caitlin and her husband had accumulated thousands of digital photos on a variety of old electronics over the past 12 years. The presence of this box of electronics was draining energy and causing disharmony in their home.
Caitlin describes the transformation that she experienced during our session, and how she was able to move from totally stuck to creating an effective plan to purify these photos.
Caitlin is passionate about helping others love themselves fully, just as they are, in order to live their life authentically and with joy. In both her personal life as a mom and wife and her professional life as a psychologist and life coach, she artfully blends western psychology with eastern healing and spiritual practices including yoga, mindfulness, and reiki. Wed, 30 Jan 2019 - 37min - 21 - 020 How to Stop Drowning in Personal Papers, Notebooks and Journals
Our personal papers (notebooks, journals, scrap paper, post-it notes, etc.) are where we capture thoughts, emotions, memories, quotes, lists, ideas, and more. When our papers become disorganized or we have simply accumulated a LOT of them, it can start to feel like we're drowning in paper.
Or, as the listener who suggested this topic for the podcast shared, "I am drowning in my own words!"
Today I'll share a few ways that we can address the personal paper flow from 2 perspectives:
1. Stemming the flow of papers coming in (or that we're creating) by using mindfulness and creating new systems.
2. Purifying the accumulated papers by committing time to sitting with them and using clarifying questions to determine what stays and what gets recycled.
To be added to the Let's Purify! email list and receive your PDF of the 15 Clarity-Boosting Questions, simply click here and enter your name and email address. You'll receive two versions: one has explanations with each question and the other is consolidated with just the questions themselves. I hope it's helpful as you're sorting through your personal papers and beyond!
If you're having trouble keeping your digital papers organized and efficient, consider listening to episode 013 Digital Decluttering with Sarah Steckler for some inspiration!
In a future episode, I'll be addressing administrative papers like tax returns, bank statements, paid bills, legal documents, etc. Stay tuned!
Thank you to the listener who shared this episode idea and for sharing your experience with your papers!
If you have a topic idea for The Let's Purify! Podcast, please email me at michael@letspurify.energy and I'll see if it's a fit for the show.

Wed, 16 Jan 2019 - 33min - 19 - 018 Celebrating the Energetic & Practical Importance of House Cleaning
When I first learned what household dust was made up of, it changed my view of cleaning forever. (Spoiler alert: Dust is gross!)
In today’s episode, I talk about some of the practical and energetic benefits of house cleaning. I want to get you excited to clean your home on a regular basis, so you can live more fully in the present.
Here are a few of the highlights:
Cleaning and tending to your altars and spiritual spaces What household dust is comprised of What dust represents energetically (and physically) Why the fact that our homes keep getting dirty and disorganized is actually cause for celebrationHere are some resources:
My All-Purpose Cleaner Recipe (that I probably found on someone’s blog a long time ago and have been fine tuning over the years…)
In a ~1-pint or 2-cup spray bottle, mix 1/4 cup vinegar, 1 teaspoon dish soap, 10 drops lemon essential oil, 5 drops peppermint essential oil. Fill the bottle with water. Gently shake and spray away!
My friend and colleague Amy Necci of Balance for My Life suggests visiting this site for a variety of essential oil recipes, including three specifically for cleaning:
All Purpose Spray Wood Polish Glass CleanserWhether we are purifying our homes of old clutter or the layer of dust and dirt that accumulates between cleanings, we have the opportunity to bring ourselves fully into the present when we clean. The need to clean is also evidence of our evolution, growth, and natural shedding of the past. YES!
I hope this episode inspires you to create some new cleaning rituals.

Wed, 09 Jan 2019 - 20min - 18 - 017 5 Ways Decluttering & Purifying Your Home Can Raise Your Vibration for 2019
The energy of the stuff in our attics, basements, closets and corners can become stagnant and stuck when we avoid addressing it for long periods of time.
Unfortunately, when we have emotional and energetic attachments to those belongings, that stuck energy is also reflected in our own energy fields. The good news is that we can shift it through decluttering and purifying!
Today, I'm sharing 5 ways that decluttering and purifying your home can raise your vibration for the coming year.
I talk about the positive impacts we feel when our vibrations are high, and the negative consequences of being in a prolonged low vibration. Then I move into the 5 positive impacts we experience in our energy fields when we let go of what no longer truly resonates with us.

Sounds like Home Energy Purification, doesn't it? Getting clear about what will serve our vision and allowing the other stuff to fall away? I am definitely clearing the decks so I can fully participate in this program!

These ill fitting gifts can accumulate in our homes and later need to be addressed. In this episode I share 5 tips on how to give more consciously so your loved ones won't be as likely to purify your gifts later!

Wed, 21 Nov 2018 - 22min - 15 - 014 Sorting Through Holiday Decorations & Traditions
Holiday decorations can live with us for decades and decades. When we bring them out of storage each year we have the opportunity to sort through and feel which ones still resonate.
The same is true for holiday traditions. We may go through each year's traditions with a sense of 'should' and obligation. It doesn't have to be this way. By purifying both our decorations and traditions we can actively create beautiful, meaningful experiences with family, friends, and our spiritual or religious practices.
In this episode I share a little about sorting through my own Christmas decorations. I let go of many things, and re-discovered a few precious treasures. You can read the blog post I wrote about this here.
Here is a link to the gorgeous hand-turned Christmas ornament my dad made years ago. I would not have re-connected with it had I not had the courage to sort through my tote of ornaments and decorations.
I'm excited to hear what treasures you will find and what meaning you will make as you sort through your holiday decorations and traditions!

Wed, 14 Nov 2018 - 20min - 14 - 013 Digital Decluttering with Sarah Steckler
Are your laptop, desktop, and phone a total mess with digital clutter??
I know all of mine are...
Thankfully the wonderful and talented Sarah Steckler, Mindfulness Practitioner and Productivity Strategist of MindfulProductivityBlog.com, is here to help us out!
Digital clutter can leave us feeling anxious, overwhelmed and unproductive. It can also detract from the "sacred digital space" that our devices have the potential to be.
"We build up a tolerance to physical and digital clutter - we don't realize how draining it is." So true, Sarah. So true.
When we bring mindfulness, awareness, and intention to our digital lives, it is possible to create new habits and practices. We can begin to stem the flow of new clutter coming in and organize what remains.
Sarah says, "My computer should feel just as magical and awesome as the rest of my home!" I couldn't agree more. I'm already making changes in my digital life from what I learned in this interview.
I hope this episode inspires you to clear out and purify your digital devices. This can lead you to greater peace, serenity, organization and productivity. Win-win-win-win!

Wed, 07 Nov 2018 - 32min - 13 - 012 Exploring Death Cleaning
Thinking about death, our belongings, and what we're leaving behind for others to address can be challenging. That's why I wanted to open up the exploration in today's episode.
A friend and podcast listener mentioned the term death cleaning to me several months ago. When I saw Margareta Magnusson's recently published book, The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning, I knew I needed to read it.
In Swedish, the term death cleaning means that "you remove unnecessary things and make your home nice and orderly when you think the time is coming closer for you to leave the planet."
In episodes 002 and 006 of this podcast, Melissa and Mary Jane both shared that they don't want their children to have to clean out a substantial amount of their belongings when they die. I too have already had thoughts about what I'm leaving behind when I die. Death cleaning is on our minds - and now we have a way to talk about it.
Here is a brief video of Margareta Magnusson talking about death cleaning. I just love her!
If you're interested in taking a first step toward death cleaning, consider booking a Clarify to Purify Interview & Planning Session with me. It's an incredible opportunity to take stock of your accumulated belongings, your thoughts and feelings about them, and your vision for your life after you have purified them. It's a gift both to you and your beloveds.
What did this death cleaning exploration stir in you? I'd love to know! Email me at michael@letspurify.energy to share.
Until next time, friend - keep on purifying! :)
Wed, 31 Oct 2018 - 23min - 12 - 011 Letting Go to Discover What is Essential: Elizabeth's Story
Seven years ago, Elizabeth Barbush let go of her conventional job, familiar home and neighborhood, and many of her personal belongings. She embarked on a journey of self-discovery where she intuitively follows 'the call' to determine each next step.
In our interview, we talk about her process of letting go and her personal inner navigation system. We also dive into how we find security and stability in our belongings. Through her exploration of 'The Four Walls', as a good friend calls them, Elizabeth continually discerns what she deems essential in her life.
The Four Walls:

Wed, 24 Oct 2018 - 32min - 11 - 010 What Does 'Purification' Mean to You?
I recently realized that I haven't yet shared an important piece of the story about how I came to start using the words 'purification' and 'purify' to describe my work.
These words can have an intensity to them and can be perceived differently by each person, so I want to be clear about where I'm coming from.
I also invite you to tune in to what purification and purifying your living space means to you, while I share some context about what it means to me.
You'll hear about how my experience with 21-day seasonal cleanses - a purification of the physical body - led me to begin purifying the space around me.
Here is the Facebook event page for the Autumn Attunement Cleanse that is currently underway. (Wishing I had timed this episode differently so you could dive into the cleanse if it is calling to you! You can always tune in with Tara and Marianne for the Winter Attunement.)
The facilitators of these amazing experiences are Tara Matthews of Soul Body Ojai in Ojai, CA, and Marianne Mitchell of The Center Within in Black Mountain, NC.

Wed, 17 Oct 2018 - 21min - 10 - 009 Purifying as a Loving Gesture to Self: Dawn's Story
Dawn Tule, owner of Mella Luna Studios in Mt. Holly Springs, Pa, attended the very first Intro to Home Energy Purification workshop waaaaay back in January. Dawn teaches yoga, provides energetic healing, and is an (((amazing))) animal communicator.
In this episode, Dawn shares many beautiful aspects of her Purification process, both from the workshop experience itself and in the weeks that followed. It was challenging to pick just one aspect for the episode's title focus...
At one point I nearly teared up as she shared that her process has shifted from feeling burdensome to feeling like a "loving gesture." What an amazing shift - and you can see why I chose it for the title!
Dawn also shared that her perspective has changed from "how can I get rid of all this stuff?" to "how can I give myself more freedom?".
We talk about letting go of belongings that represented an over-focus on the future and 'potential'. We also touch on guilt, shame, generational patterns of holding onto belongings, re-gifting, and much more.
I hope you enjoy the inspiration and light that Dawn brings to our conversation.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
If you've been interested in attending an in-person workshop and it hasn't worked out yet due to timing or distance, you're in luck!

This intimate, small group experience is open to 5 people. You'll get to participate from the comfort and convenience of your home. How magical!
And the investment is magical too at just $25. :)

Wed, 10 Oct 2018 - 28min - 9 - 008 What My Broken Sunglasses Taught Me About Consumerism, Landfills, and Superglue
I accidentally broke 1 of my 2 pairs of sunglasses a few months ago.
Shoot! I was disappointed and sad because I really liked those sunglasses - and they played an important role in my quirky, yet effective, sunglasses system.
Facing this broken object pushed me to more deeply explore my consumerism, use of the landfill, and the energy of broken things.
Plus, I was introduced to the world's best superglue at my local auto parts and hardware store, Benders.
As promised, here are links to photos of my formally broken, now repaired things:
Restored artwork by my dear friend, Kelly Griffith. You can check out more of her art here.
And here is a photo of the superglue.
I hope this episode has invited you to consider your own thoughts and behaviors around consumerism and how you use the landfill. These are important components of Home Energy Purification. When we choose to let something go from our homes, it is also vital that we consider where it is heading.
Healing the energy of broken things is another beautiful aspect of the Home Energy Purification process.
There is so much to consider and explore when it comes to our relationship with our stuff! If you want to gain some clarity about where to start with your process of sorting through and letting go of those objects which may no longer be serving you, let's jump on a Clarify to Purify call!

Wed, 26 Sep 2018 - 20min - 7 - 006 The Power of Starting Small: Mary Jane's Story
Does the idea of diving into purifying your attic, basement, or entire home feel overwhelming or terrifying to you? Fear not!
Today, Mary Jane shares about how she has started small and accomplished a LOT!
Mary Jane has lived in her home for over 30 years and has, like most folks who have lived in one place for a long time, accumulated a lot of stuff. She doesn't want her kids (and I'm one of them - Mary Jane is my mom ;) ) to have to clean out her home at some point. However, the idea of getting started on the attic or basement feels like too much right now.
Mary Jane talks about how she has allowed the flow of her life to motivate and 'kick start' her to take action on purifying small areas of her living space.
She shares that Home Energy Purification is "becoming a way of life" for her. Letting go of bad habits and tangible 'stuff' has lightened her life and now "a lot of big gray clouds are gone".
Mary Jane shares that she has donated clothing and other household goods to Community Aid. Community Aid is a thrift store and donation organization in south central PA. Here's a link in case you're local to this area and need a place to donate some of your old stuff. https://communityaid.net/
