Over the past few messages, we have been examining what the true Christian life looks like. Many times, people have an idea of what it takes to be obedient to God. In his kindness, God helps us reorder and shift our priorities so that we begin to prioritize the things that truly matter to him. My prayer is that these messages will continue to help you do that. Focus on God and let the distractions and temptations of life fade into the background.
We will turn our attention to the story of Job. A familiar one in Scripture, Job experienced profound loss and tragedy, leaving him in a state of mourning. However, Job did not suffer alone but was visited by his three friends who stayed with him in his grief. We are called to live life alongside one another, helping each other through both good and bad times. Small groups are one way to do that and are an important part of church life. One of the greatest blessings of having a church family is connection. Connection is vital to the life of the believer. God has not called us to a life of isolation but to a posture of community and belonging. This provides a place of safety, peace, and hope for those who are hurting or in need.
In Joshua’s day, God commanded the Israelites to establish places where people could go who were in trouble or needed help. These cities served as beacons to those who would run into them and find refuge and solace. Church, small groups, and Christian connections should function the same way. This is especially true for small groups. They have a unique ability to uplift and edify believers while connecting them to the church. The title of this sermon is “Cities of Refuge.”

The Lycian League was the first known republic in the world, where the people were governed by elected officials. This concept was not revived again until the foundation of America. We have to stand for our freedoms, recognize God’s providential hand in our history, and pray for revival in America. In learning about the Lycian League, we will learn more about the foundation of our own nation and gain a better understanding of what makes America special.

The foundation of our faith is not our own experiences but the collective experience of God’s people in the Scriptures. If he was faithful then, he will be faithful now and in the future. I can pray to him in confidence and know that he will answer the prayer of the clean heart.

Bad theology can mutilate the church body. The church in Pergamum on the surface was holding up against persecution and false teaching. However, twisted and harmful teachings had begun to creep into the church and twist the doctrine. Wrong doctrine is harmful to every area of our lives because it corrupts and distorts what we believe about God. Refusal to stop false doctrine is to incur the wrath of Jesus himself. Repentance and return to the truth approve us to feed upon the truth and entitles us to more truth.

Times of testing are inevitable for the church, even for individual believers. Smyrna was facing tremendous hardship and was in danger of falling to the pressure and fear of persecution. God reminded them of the importance of standing up under that pressure and remaining faithful. Every trial has a lifecycle and then follows the evaluation. Instead of walking in fear, we must walk in faith, and we will receive the crown of life.

Jesus Christ, our Great High Priest, is bone of our bone and partaker of our flesh and blood. His very body that was placed in the tomb on Good Friday rose from the tomb on Easter Sunday. Many of us have heard the language of the empty tomb or Christ rising from the dead, but what does that mean for us? How does that change our perspective on life and belief? Over the next few weeks, we will dive into this idea of resurrection and how that impacts our understanding of the Christian life.

Jesus is the True Vine. Everyone that abides in him bears fruit. God the Father prunes and cultivates us in order that we may bear more fruit, and the “more fruit” is the tremendous harvest of souls, both Jewish and Gentile. He also removes the dead branches that appear to be connected to the vine but are not. To reject Christ is to be severed from him forever, but to abide in Christ is to be abundant.

Jesus is the Door of the Sheep. He doesn’t come to trick us or trap us. He comes through the door, calling our name, and leads us out. He goes before us, and we follow him because we know his voice. When we enter through him, we not only find salvation, but we also find fullness of life.

Doubt is the Enemy’s choicest weapon against God’s people. He uses unanswered prayers to cause us to doubt God’s promises. God does not abandon us in our doubts. Instead, he reassures us that he will fulfill what he has promised. We are to trust him that he will work all things together for our good but in his timing.

To most people the birth place of Jesus might not seem significant or even interesting. Even Christians might normally think that the place Jesus was born was just a coincidence, but really the birth place of Jesus was divinely planned. It was a product of God's sovereignty. It was the fulfillment of prophecy. God used the small and insignificant town of Bethlehem to bring forth a the eternal King. Do you ever feel insignificant? Do you ever feel unworthy? Do you ever feel that you are too little or unsuitable to be used by God? Are you saved?

The virgin birth is such an important doctrine that we as Christians should hold to. Many people say that they can believe almost everything in Christianity but struggle with the virgin birth. By looking into the Old Testament and even looking into the original languages, we see that the virgin birth is not only probable, but is crucial because it shows that Jesus is the promised Messiah, Do you believe? I’m not just asking just about the virgin birth. Do you believe that Jesus is God’s only hope for you?

If the Word of God has any error at all then we can't trust it. People study the Bible trying to find errors. We must always be ready to have a defense of our faith. In this message we look at one of the objections that is raised out of the book of Matthew, and see how not only is it consistent with all of God's Word, but that it is a promise that Jesus would come to be our perfect King. Is Christ your Savior?
