Ghanshyam Das Birla was one of the most prominent Indian businessmen from the era when India was struggling to get freedom from the British Empire. He belonged to the Birla family and is the founding father of the multi-billion dollar Birla Empire. He came from a humble background of Pilani in India where his grandfather was into the business of money lending—a tradition in that particular community. But Birla had dreams bigger than that and took him to Calcutta. He started a jute firm in Calcutta and gathered the kind of success which was impossible for an Indian businessman to achieve in those hard times. This led to one success after another and soon he expanded his empire into manufacturing, tea business, banking, chemical, cement, etc. It was his early efforts that made the Birla Empire what it is now and his impeccable business sense earned him the India's second highest civilian honor, the Padma Vibhushan. Birla established and pioneered a lot of new concepts in India during his time—he started a manufacturing business in Calcutta at a time when Indian businessmen were not given any preference over the British and Scottish merchants. He slowly expanded it into various industries like cement, chemicals, rayon, steel tubes, tea, banking, etc.

Walchand Hirachand Doshi was an Indian industrialist and the founder of the Walchand group. He established India's first modern shipyard, first aircraft factory and first car factory; he also established construction companies, sugarcane plantations, sugar factories, confectioneries, engineering companies and many other businesses. Walchandnagar Industries Limited, located at Walchandnagar, an industrial township near Pune is today a strategic defence and nuclear equipments manufacturing company. He would probably be remembered as the man who dared to dream and was able to materialise most of his dreams into reality by his steadfastness and willpower.

The saga of the Hinduja Group started in Sindh, the cradle of the Indus Valley Civilisation, where more than 5,000 years ago, the human race learnt its first lessons in organized business and banking. Parmanand Deepchand Hinduja, a young entrepreneur from the fabled town of Shikarpur in Sindh district (then in undivided India) realised early in life that business was all about spotting opportunities and seizing them, wherever they surfaced.
In 1914, he travelled to the trade and financial capital, Bombay (later changed to Mumbai) where he quickly learnt the ropes of business. In 1919, the business journey, which began in Sindh, entered the international arena with an office in Iran (the first outside India).
Merchant Banking and Trade were the twin pillars of the Group’s business. The Group remained headquartered in Iran till 1979. It then moved to Europe.
Today, the Hinduja Group has become one of the largest diversified groups in the world spanning all the continents. The Group employs over 150,000+ people and has offices in many key cities of the world and all the major cities in India.

Jamsetji Tata laid the foundations and largely consolidated the position of Indian industry and enterprise. In Indian industry the terms 'integrity' and 'Tata' are synonymous, with the result that the House of Tata and its far-flung organization have the stamp of stability, security and success. It was not an easy success and there is at no stage in its development any trace of the nouveau-riche make-up.

Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata was born in 1839, and in his lifetime India remained firmly under British rule. Yet the projects he envisioned laid the foundation for the nation's development once it became independent. More extraordinary still, these institutions continue to set the pace for others in their respective areas. For, among his many achievements are the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, which has groomed some of the country's best scientists, the Tata Steel plant in Jamshedpur, which marked the country's transition from trading to manufacturing, his pioneering hydro-electric project, and the Taj Mahal hotel in Mumbai, one of the finest in the world.

In these as in other projects he undertook, Jamsetji revealed the unerring instinct of a man who knew what it would take to restore the pride of a subjugated nation and help it prepare for a place among the leading nations of the world once it came into its own. The scale of the projects required abilities of a high order. In some cases it was sheer perseverance that paid off as with finding a suitable site for the steel project. In others, such as the Indian Institute of Science, it was his exceptional persuasive skills and patience that finally got him the approval of a reluctant viceroy, Lord Curzon.

Shantanurao Kirloskar was born on 28 May 1903 in Solapur in a family of entrepreneurs who set the stage for the establishment of one of India’s biggest engineering conglomerates — Kirloskar Group.

His father Laxmanrao Kirloskar was the founder of the Group.

Shantanurao did his primary education from Kirloskarwadi, an industrial township that his father had set up, and then completed his secondary education from New English School, Pune.

Shantanurao was one of the first Indians to graduate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he completed his graduation in mechanical engineering in 1926.
The Kirsloskar Group has its humble beginnings from the time Laxmanrao set up a small bicycle repair shop in 1888. He manufactured the country’s first iron plough that not only took the company to new heights but also started an industrial revolution in India. Shantanurao then expanded the operations of the Kirloskar Group.

From 1920 when Kirloskar Brothers was formed, Shantanurao went on to establish a number of companies under Kirloskar Group. One such company — Kirloskar Oil Engines Ltd (KOEL) — grew rapidly under his helm and vision, becoming the largest diesel engine company of the country by 1960s.

Shantanurao was also one of the central figures behind the formation of the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industries (FICCI) in 1927.

He felt that industrialisation with a strong focus on manufacturing would fast-track India’s economic growth, which was desperately needed given the state of affairs in the country after independence. And for this he fought hard on many occasions, including the time when he was finally able to form KOEL before which he had once famously said “factories have a longer life than human beings”.

शंतनुराव किर्लोस्कर यांचा जन्म 28 मे 1903 रोजी सोलापूर येथे उद्योजकांच्या कुटुंबात झाला, ज्यांनी भारतातील सर्वात मोठ्या अभियांत्रिकी समूह - किर्लोस्कर समूहाच्या स्थापनेचा पायंडा पाडला.

त्यांचे वडील लक्ष्मणराव किर्लोस्कर ग्रुपचे संस्थापक होते.

शंतनुरावांनी त्यांचे प्राथमिक शिक्षण त्यांच्या वडिलांनी वसवलेल्या किर्लोस्करवाडी या औद्योगिक शहरातून झाले आणि त्यानंतर त्यांचे माध्यमिक शिक्षण न्यू इंग्लिश स्कूल, पुणे येथून पूर्ण केले.
मॅसॅच्युसेट्स इन्स्टिट्यूट ऑफ टेक्नॉलॉजी (MIT) मधून पदवीधर झालेल्या पहिल्या भारतीयांपैकी शंतनुराव होते, जिथे त्यांनी 1926 मध्ये यांत्रिक अभियांत्रिकीमध्ये पदवी पूर्ण केली.

1888 मध्ये लक्ष्मणरावांनी एक लहान सायकल दुरुस्तीचे दुकान सुरू केले तेव्हापासून किर्स्लोस्कर समूहाची विनम्र सुरुवात झाली. त्यांनी देशातील पहिला लोखंडी नांगर तयार केला ज्याने कंपनीला केवळ नवीन उंचीवर नेले नाही तर भारतात औद्योगिक क्रांती देखील सुरू केली. शंतनुरावांनी मग किर्लोस्कर समूहाच्या कामकाजाचा विस्तार केला

1920 पासून जेव्हा किर्लोस्कर ब्रदर्सची स्थापना झाली तेव्हा शंतनुरावांनी किर्लोस्कर समूहाच्या अंतर्गत अनेक कंपन्या स्थापन केल्या. अशीच एक कंपनी - किर्लोस्कर ऑइल इंजिन्स लिमिटेड (KOEL) - 1960 च्या दशकात देशातील सर्वात मोठी डिझेल इंजिन कंपनी बनून, त्यांच्या नेतृत्वाखाली आणि दृष्टीकोनातून वेगाने वाढली.

फेडरेशन ऑफ इंडियन चेंबर ऑफ कॉमर्सच्या स्थापनेमागे शंतनुराव हे देखील एक महत्त्वाचे व्यक्तिमत्त्व होते.

त्यांना असे वाटले की उत्पादनावर लक्ष केंद्रित करून औद्योगिकीकरणामुळे भारताच्या आर्थिक विकासाला वेग येईल, ज्याची स्वातंत्र्यानंतरची देशातील स्थिती पाहता नितांत गरज होती. आणि यासाठी त्याने अनेक प्रसंगी कठोर संघर्ष केला, ज्यामध्ये तो शेवटी KOEL तयार करण्यात यशस्वी झाला ज्याच्या आधी त्याने एकदा प्रसिद्ध म्हटले होते की "कारखान्यांचे आयुष्य माणसांपेक्षा जास्त असते".
