Welcome to Bronzeville a corner of Chicago ran by African Americans for the betterment of the African Americans back in the 1940’s.Bronzeville was a place where African Americans could prosper. They had this thing called “Running The Numbers” which in today’s world we’d call the Lottery. This is a HIGHLY scripted and theatrical show which reminds me of the radio drama’s my grandparents loved. Bronzeville is the story of Jimmy Tillman which is on the run and ends up in Bronzeville. This week we’re traveling to a hidden city in the darkest, deepest reaches of the Pacific Ocean to a Utopian society. Brought to us by Christof Laputka this is The Leviathan Chronicles. An audio drama that although has never been completed is in my top five I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. The Leviathan Chronicles tells the stories of Immortal beings trapped in a civil war and how a young genetic scientist named Macallan Orsel is trapped between who she was led to believe she was and who she truly is. She must navigate the water per say to find who and what she really is and decide how she is going to better society as we know it and the society of immortals that she comes to learn about. We all have heard of James Bond the famous 007. Some of us growing up pretended to be him but for some it’s a lifestyle. So this week we’re talking I SPY. I SPY is a podcast told by a SPY each episode about one mission they had a hand in. Things like this are becoming more common as more documents are being declassified it’s allowing the real James Bonds to come out of the shadows and tell parts of their career to the masses and this is what makes this podcast one of my new favorites. Mon, 02 Mar 2020 - 71 - This is War
This week we’re talking about This is War. This is War is an extremely raw cut into you guessed it War. War has been apart of my country since I can remember. Helicopters being shot down, nightly updates on deaths overseas and so many more devastating and life changing moments for so many where I live and across the globe. Growing up I always figured I’d maybe someday join the military though I did not, I still am curious about it. What’s it really like over there? What’s it like to know today is my last day alive and then somehow you end up coming home 6 months later? What drove this person to join the military over another, and really what drove someone to stay after their first contract was up? But the big question I’ve recently been asking myself is how do they cope with it all when it’s done and said. These questions get answered in This is War. It’s RAW, it’s real and honestly it’s fucking emotional just listening. Mon, 24 Feb 2020 - 70 - We're Alive: Goldrush
Set 17 years after the events of the original We’re Alive a world some of this installment characters have lived their entire life in the aftermath of the story we’ve already heard. These survivors never knew the world we do and the ones that do remember that have grown and changed since the original outbreak. Goldrush is best described by Kc Wayland himself as a “Recollection” story. Told by some of my favorite survivors from the original story Goldrush tells us of a time back during the original story the soldiers went rogue in hopes of gold and glory and found so much more. The thing I found odd at first about Goldrush was that instead of really expanding the world we expand characters. Instead of focusing on wars with mallers or other survivors in Goldrush we focus on the emotional aspect of these characters as they rely the history of Anthony Robbins to his son Alex all through the memory of now General Puck. If you’re in to dark topics surrounding true crime, conspiracy, history and the paranormal all with a comedic twist then let these three best friends take a stab at becoming your next favorite binge. Each episode I get the feeling that these hosts are just remembering to turn on a mic and bless us with their normal conversations that they would be having regardless if there was a podcast. The topics discussed in this are just what you’d expect. Items ranging from eerie museums to Salem witch trials to odd town festivals. Mon, 13 May 2019 - 27 - Love and Luck
Love and Luck is the definition of a slice of life Audio Drama and Australia's first LGBT audio drama told entirely in voicemails. I will be honest when I first started this series I was hesitant and even put off by the back and forth voicemails. It is truly unlike ANY other podcast I have ever heard before. Though I found this semi annoying at first I will admit the episodes are quick and I soon found I was 20 episodes in and noticed I was enjoying my time with the story. So with that said yes I can see where a voicemail audio drama may be semi off putting I am asking you to take a chance and see this review through and give love a chance. Love and Luck starts off as the story of Jason and Kane who fall deeply in love despite their struggles emotionally and learn to grow together and discover the magic per say. Through the first season you start to get a feeling for their personal lives and their struggles, but we quickly find out they are Magical in more ways than one. Mon, 15 Apr 2019 - 23 - Married To The Games
This week We’re here to talk about a podcast that showed me what it meant to be a community. This week I’m here to tell you about Married to the Games or MTTG as we call it. I should state right off the top if you’re looking for a guaranteed family friendly podcast this is the one for you. Married to the games started life back on September 21st 2012 with Three hosts. Gabe, Tim and Tim. These three Nashville natives all came from different walks of life but were united with Video Games. As the friendships built so did their families. Married To The Games was based on the principals of Kids, Wives and 9 to 5’s… except for Gabe when it’s tour season. The three hosts opened up about their personal lives and of course Video Games. Timothy Hall stepped away from Married To The Games to focus on his growing family. So with his leave a spot needing to be filled and Chris McCrackin and Ed Placencia long time listeners and well regarded community members stepped up and without skipping a beat it was a perfect fit. You may be asking yourself what packages. As the story unfolds you learn more about the packages and cargo and what led Frank to undertake this task. Mon, 25 Mar 2019 - 19 - Giant Bomb
Today we’re going to talk about the podcast that got me started in the crazy world of Podcasting. Giant Bomb was the first show I ever listened to and it is still going all these years later. I joined after it was already a big name in the Podcast world but let me go over a little history of this famous Podcast. Giant Bomb is a video game podcast and website that is personality driven in their coverage of news and reviews. The show came to light from two former GameSpot employees Jeff Gerstmann and Ryan Davis. Jeff was terminated from his position at GameSpot and took this as a challenge to create a new outlet to showcase his personality that I still love to this day. Sadly when I joined the audience was right after the passing of Ryan Davis and it struck home for me listening to them talk about him, memories and his young family. Which I had just had a major loss in my personal life. I should say Jeff and Ryan started the podcast under a brand called Whiskey Media but in 2012 was acquired by CBS and has flourished since. This week we're talking about Business Wars which is brought to us by Wondery. A podcast network that brings high quality shows with intense quality. Business Wars is a mini series style podcast that focuses on titans of their industry giving up the real stories of companies and the leaders behind them. The show continues with rivalries of Addidas Vs. Nike, The First Computer War, Marvel VS DC, Sony VS Nintendo and McDonalds VS Burger King. Mon, 18 Feb 2019 - 14 - The Bright Sessions
Today we’re here to talk to you about an amazing and one of my personal favorites The Bright Sessions. The show revolves around a group of adults and several young adults that all share a special attribute they all have a supernatural abilities in some form. Yes I know it sounds so cliche from today's world but somehow Lauren Shippen the creator has gone beyond what could of been a TV knockoff and made a vast world that feels so real. In this day and age we are so skeptical of the people running our government and wonder who’s truly behind it all and what they’re hiding. Our Government has a division in charge of these A Typical people and a normal therapist that is charged with helping them fit in to our society with the best of her ability. From scorned lovers to blossoming high school romance and even a time traveling romance this show covers it all and just like in life you fall into a click and mingle within it. From learning about each patient of Dr. Bright's we learn about aspects of their personal life through the series. The main story line seems to of concluded but Lauren has made nods to a new series or spin off and still releases occasional patient clips. If you’re looking for a top tier story look no further and maybe if we’re lucky the tease of exploring other aspects of The Bright Sessions in a new spin off series will come true and if it does you’ll hear about it here first on podcast Junkie.
