His artistic practice combines sample collage techniques and electronic improvisation to create realtime sound compositions. He has composed for dance, theater, multichannel installation, and digital release. Wenner is set to release a new full-length album later this year entitled 'Age of Execution.'His piece for 'The Ambient Vault' is composed of all unreleased material that was edited and sequenced to create a brand new 22 minute sound composition. The source material for the composition was derived from various improvisational recordings involving the manipulation and playback of sampled and found sound content.

The project began as an exploration and a return to the sounds and the sound making machines she always loved as a kid. Hardware synths, field recordings, and pedals.
Maria works in classical music, theatre and performance, and many different genres and constellations, from traditional concerts and halls to experimental underground scenes. Noises and Roses is her playground and declaration of love for sound in all its forms, organic and electronic.

Episode 71 of The Ambient Vault podcast features special guest Slow Blink. Slow Blink is Amanda Haswell’s dark ambient project. The songs are built around tape loops that primarily feature effect-weathered guitar, piano, and synth. Many have described the sound as being one of nostalgia for memories that sometimes are difficult to pinpoint.
Haswell’s latest EP, Imbolc, was self- released digitally February 23. Slow Blink has also found a home in the catalogs of Hard Return, Hare’s Breath Records, Bummer Recordings, and Invisible Animals Records. A new split release with Minnesota noise musician, Stomachache, is planned for later this year as well as a solo release under Marthasville Fine Audio Recordings.

Episode 70 of The Ambient Vault podcast features special guest Songs From Tin Pan Alley. Songs From Tin Pan Alley is a one man band based in Copenhagen, Denmark. Composing ambient textures covered in lofi-dust. Have over the last 4 years released 14 full-length albums. Some of them in collaboration with other ambient musicians. His music is mostly centered around modular stuff, tape-loops and always recorded in single takes on either a reel to reel deck or a Marantz cassette recorder.
Tomorrow on his birthday, April 3rd he is releasing the last episode of the Standstills trilogy. The album was recorded in 4 days intensive stretch in April last year in a cozy and beautiful apartment in Berlin. All the songs are single takes and with no overdubbing; recorded on a very worn-out Marantz cassette recorder. So, expect beautiful dropouts, hiss and wow and flutter. 😉 The album is released through the wonderful Copenhagen-based record label Petite Victory Collective (PVC).

Episode 69 of The Ambient Vault podcast features special guest Taylor McMillen. Taylor is an artist based in Nashville who came up as a multi-instrumentalist in bands before deciding to pursue his deep love of quiet and contemplative sounds. He is currently in the middle of a 6 album project for this year, one every month from July to December.
Taylor made this track using generative sequencing to trigger tape-saturated synth sound. His aim was to create something that could be looped endlessly without getting too redundant, but also not necessarily “progressing.” A piece of music that allows the listener to simply exist within it.

“I’ve been making music for over 20 years: electro, dubstep, techno,
dub. For three years now I’ve been focussing on modular synths,
which I find truly inspiring. I did live modbap sets (modular + hiphop
beats), a few glitch tracks and lofi ambient pieces.
Something that’s always present in my music is a feeling of
melancholy. When I create stuff, I start with an idea, start patching
and develop it further. In that process the modular always brings me
to new unexpected sound territories. Everything is recorded straight
to stereo, no overdubs or edits on the computer. This is challenging
but also very rewarding - once it’s done it’s done.”

Episode 64 of The Ambient Vault podcast features special guest Second Sun. Second Sun is a brand new musical project by Copenhagen based musician and producer Jacob Rasmussen, which presents ambient electronic soundscapes, cinematic impressions, and ethereal textures composed and performed on modular synthesizers.
With more than 15 years of experience as a performing musician, and with roots in genres as diverse as indie rock, dream pop, psychedelic rock and folk, Rasmussen originally discovered his love for electronic music through artists such as Nils Frahm, Kiasmos, and Massive Attack. He soon found himself diving deep into minimal techno, ambient electronic, dark ambient, and more.
The sound of Second Sun initially started during the first pandemic lockdown, where he discovered an immediate love for minimal and ambient music. Through a growing passion for modular synthesizers, flow state improvisation, as well as an insatiable hunger for exploring the creative field between human and machine, Second Sun was born.
Second Sun mainly works with modular synths, tape, and similar hardware equipment. His creative process is intuitive, exploratory and reflective, and usually revolves around creating atmospheres and sonic spaces. The result is a deep dive into distant galaxies of sound, fragile melancholic melodies, and immersive auditive explorations.

Episode 62 of The Ambient Vault podcast features special guest Jay Cliffen. Jay Cliffen is a Canadian instrumental music producer. He specializes in textural cassette-based ambient music. Inspired by minimalist art and design, with influences from jazz, classical, and pop styles, Jay began producing instrumental and increasingly experimental compositions. He developed a sound that blends the harmonic richness of analog synthesizers with acoustic instruments, fused together by magnetic tape, with all of its imperfections. From tape warble, pitch motion, hissing and crackling, emerges mood and emotions that are best described as modern nostalgia.
Jay's Ambient Vault session features a collection of unreleased music, designed for meditative moments of quiet reflection. The EP uses sounds from the Lyra-8 synthesizer, Elektron Digitakt for sequencing and re-sampling, as well as micro loop, and tape looping techniques. Mastered at 12K Mastering by Taylor Deupree.

Episode 60 of The Ambient Vault podcast features special guest Egil Kalman. Egil Kalman is a Swedish musician/composer primarily playing modular synthesizer and double bass. ”Kingdom of Bells Egil Kalman plays the Synthi 100” is his debut record as a solo artist.
The record was made during a residency at the Contemporary Music Research Center (KSYME) in Athens in 2019. All the tracks were captured straight from the Synthi 100 as stereo recordings and contain no overdubs. The music showcases both the powerful and raw sound of this rare instrument as well as Kalman’s expansive interests as a musician and composer.
Mind altering just tuned drones with melodies that echoes traditional Scandinavian folk music flow into abstract soundscapes reminiscent of early electronic music pioneers, but still holds a fresh sound and vibe. Deep synth music from the North!
Egil Kalman’s playing as a syntheist and double bass player can previously be heard in duos with Zoe Efstathiou and Fredrik Rasten as well as in groups such as Miman, Marthe Lea Band and Alasdair Roberts & Völvur.
His music aims to dissolve the brittle barriers separating traditional Scandinavian folk- and contemporary electroacoustic music via minimalist compositional techniques and soulful improvisations. Utilizing just intonation tunings, hypnotic forms, synthesized sound mimicking the acoustic and vice versa, his music explores qualities intrinsic to traditional Scandinavian folk music in ways where the musical foundation is felt rather than explicitly heard.

Episode 58 of The Ambient Vault features special guest Keinseier. Keinseier (/kaɪn-zaɪɑː/ rhymes with line-flyer) is an electronic artist interested in exploring the creative process and music through combinations of organic and electronic sounds. From tiny glitches to orchestral string instruments, he uses generative and randomization techniques to create ever-evolving, oftentimes ambient and cinematic pieces, which tend to include both analog and digital noises - which are reused to create something new. In „real life“ he is a trained media composer (who majored in film scoring at Berklee College of Music) and has written music to a multitude of commercials, feature films and tv series`.
keinseier lives and works in Hamburg, Germany.
“I started the whole keinseier project as a way to release music free from the limitations of genre, style and external and internal censors.
Since my day job is that of a media composer, my music often has to meet very specific demands - be it in the emotion it evokes, the length, the dynamic arc etc.
I wanted to give myself the chance and challenge of just making the kind of music that happens to come out, given the tools I choose. This has been a sometimes surprising, sometimes challenging but very rewarding experience. In trying not to censor myself to what I think is cool, what I think the audience wants to hear or I myself think I want to hear etc, I often arrive at surprising results which tend to come really easy - because I am not necessarily trying to achieve something in particular, but let the music take me where it wants to go. Results which, to me, are far more interesting than trying to write adhering to a certain image I have of myself.” - Keinseier

“I’ve been making music, on and off, for 25+ years and started/joined a few projects throughout those years either as a musician or as a video artist.
But only recently, and mostly since the pandemic hit, started making music by myself (and for myself as well) and enjoying this whole process of discovery and experimentation. I enjoy harmony and melody, not happy, not sad, somewhere in between. I also use found sounds, field recordings and I'm an avid fan of noises, glitches and controlled randomness. I like the idea of being more of a curator than a musician/performer and being surprised with what comes out with the constraints I set. Closer to the feeling of being surprised with new music rather than consciously creating it. Most of what I create is either generative, improvised or a mixture of both.
Modular is the main instrument, but tape, mostly reel-to-reel recorders, is also a part of the process, by recording and randomly cutting loops and using them as a base to explore from.”- Ricardo Peixoto

Episode 56 of The Ambient Vault podcast features special guest Chelidon Frame. Chelidon Frame is an experimental electronic music project that mainly works with field recordings, radio interferences, guitars and processed sounds.
His installations are experienced-based and suggest a dialogue between the location (both virtual and physical) and the sounds proposed, aiming to deliver a message in the simpler yet most effective way. The use of code, data analysis and data-driven sounds, allow information to be experienced anew.
In his studio works and live sets different layers of sounds - guitars, synthesizers and custom-made instruments - piles up creating unexpected new soundscapes. In this week’s episode, Chelidon Frame has treated us to the following tracks:

Episode 54 of The Ambient Vault podcast features special guest Julia Gjertsen. Julia is a composer and musician based in Oslo, Norway.
She early found ways to express herself through music, strongly inspired by the arctic nature in Northern Norway and triggered by particular life events. Her debut EPSlow Motion Storieswas released in 2012 and her style has since been evolving with thoughtfully arranged compositions and sound images. Julia’s full-length albumFragile (2019) was released onModerna Records and reflects the time between the experienced and learned past, giving a fragile definition to her surroundings through piano compositions. She has been involved in several collaborative releases, such asDistant Fields (2020) and 'Paisajes Imaginario' (2022) with Nico Rosenberg. On her newest album 'Formations', which came out this year, she brings in flutes, synths and textured ambience to her piano work and explores dynamics in her own unique style.

Episode 53 of The Ambient Vault podcast features special guest Florigenix. Florigenix is an electronic music project created by the artist Nicholas Dallwitz in Adelaide, South Australia.
Dallwitz’s other solo musical pseudonym is Magus Niche, and has played in a number of underground bands and performance art projects throughout his life, as well as being a visual artist where he has exhibited drawings and paintings.
Florigenix originally started in 2017 as a live dance music act, where Dallwitz improvised on stage using drum machines and synthesisers. It has since become his main musical outlet, where he experiments with ambient composition as well as retro psychedelia and sound design, regularly posting his work on instagram. An avid DIYer, In 2020 he completed building a portable setup for his modular and hardware synthesisers which can be solar powered.
This episode features an amazing 25 minute recorded live jam that Nicholas was kind enough to share, it’s a remarkable demonstration of his knowledge, craft, and musicality - you’ll definitely want to hear this one! Episode 46 of The Ambient Vault podcast features my special guest Tom Leclerc. Tom Leclerc is a French composer, improviser, and sound artist. With synthesizers, modular and piano melodies, he creates ambient atmospheres, minimalist and impressionism. He works on improvised and pseudo-generative music combining meditation and emotions in his sounds.
Tom learned the piano at 8 years old, and started to play with synthesizers and modulars for the past two years. Since then, he’s started to record video of his works and he progresses in different places. Recently he tried to explore the limits of music with a performance in the mountains and in front of the ocean. Beyond the logistical difficulty and the physical challenge, he finds inspiration in the middle of nature.
Tom Leclerc, also named ambient montaineer, transports us all in his floral world that links electronic and meditative music with repetitive and hypnotic melodies. Each piece is an artifact composed in a particular place. Recently he played and recorded, “On The Leaves”, his last album, in the forest of the Cantal in France.

Episode 43 of The Ambient Vault Podcast features special guest Luca Longobardi. Italian composer and pianist Luca Longobardi represents the generation of classically trained musicians who incorporate the language of contemporary electronic music into their pieces, which are furthermore strongly connected to the multimedia arts.
Born in 1976, Longobardi studied classical music in Italy and New York and went on to earn his doctorate in digital audio restoration in Rome in 2011. His works reveal a strong interaction between classical and contemporary music.
The experience he has gained as a theatre musician has increased his interest in the relationship between sounds and spectacle; he has composed music for ballets and films and accompanied installations and experimental art productions (Atelier de Lumières - Paris, Carrières des Lumières - Baux-de-Provence, Kunstkraftwerk - Leipzig). At his multimedia performances and in his recordings, strongly experimental electronic music meets pure, ethereal and simple-seeming piano playing that nevertheless relays deep emotions.

Jae has been generous to share tracks from his debut album “Due To”. “Due To” was released on Folded Note Records a few months ago and the tapes sold out within 24 hours!“Due To” is an album full of live improvisations where Jae used a Minimoog, Buchla Music Easel, Digital Mellotron & Ciat-Lonbarde instruments. “Due To” was Jae’s attempt to capture the strange emptiness brought on by lockdowns and COVID while still trying to provide plenty of hopefulness for the future. Jae also hosts a Podcast called “The Deerhorn” which focuses on Ciat-Lonbarde instruments. Each episode is a conversation with various members of the Ciat-Lonbarde community and focuses on the artists new releases, recording process, personal history & their love for various gear. The Deerhorn often features the artists of Seil records & Folded Note Records.
Recently, Jae was also a guest on the wonderful Podular Modcast as well.
The 4 tracks on this EP were made shortly after Jae moved from Edmonton to Vancouver. He fell head over heels for the new city and each track on this is a love letter to his favourite places to skateboard in Vancouver. When he’s not head first into a modular filled studio, Jae can usually be found skateboarding, hiking, cycling and taking pictures.

Episode 41 of The Ambient Vault podcast features special guest Jan Esbra. Jan is a New York City-based Colombian guitarist and composer known for his “mesmerizing soundscapes and innovative ideas”. Combining elements from minimalism, ambient and improvised music he created evolving, textural soundscapes.
Jan’s debut solo album entitled “Temporary Objects'' was released on August 27, 2021 and is a collection of improvisations using guitars, samplers and various effects pedals. On this episode of the podcast we feature tracks from the album and really appreciate Jan sharing with us here on The Ambient Vault.Aside from his solo work, Jan has released music with his bands Jade Collective and Bird Lite and has worked with Becca Stevens, Ben Wendel, Catey Esler and Eva Gertz. He has a Bachelor's degree in Jazz Composition and Music Business from Berklee College of Music and participated in the 2020 New Amsterdam Composers.

Using a combination of synthesis and sampling, Forms aims to construct heartfelt ambient soundscapes inspired by the subtle and unpredictable beauty of the world around us. Episode 36 of The Ambient Vault features my special guest Clariloops. Clariloops is the project of Australian neo-classical/electronic artist Ruby Lulham.
Combining the sound of her clarinet with effects pedals and synthesised sound, Ruby experiments with electronics to create music that is unique yet familiar, existing between genres. The project started as a way of bringing stillness and creativity into Ruby’s classical music practice. The resulting sounds are rhythmic and calming, providing accompaniment to people’s movements and thoughts without intrusion.
Learning clarinet through a jazz lens before transitioning to classical music, a curiosity in composition and improvisation was instilled in Ruby from a young age. Clariloops is influenced by a collection of things: neoclassical artists such as Ólafur Arnalds, Max Richter and Brian Eno, classical studies during university where Ruby discovered her love of 20th century impressionist composers, and the diverse sounds of music she loves, from instrumental hip hop and electronica to indie pop and rock. Performing as a classical musician in orchestras and wind ensembles for many years, Ruby started to create her own music in 2020 to find her voice away from the rigidity of classical music.
For her latest project, Ruby has dived further into the world of electronic production as she has spent time learning from experimental hip hop and electronic producers to bring something new to the Clariloops sound. Having just finished recording and producing a new album ’Sun//Rain', Ruby is spending her time discovering new sounds and completing collaborative projects with people all over the world.

Episode 34 of The Ambient Vault features my special guest The Broken Cradle. The Broken Cradle is an Ambient, Electronic, and Neoclassical artist and is the solo work of Eric McLean, a musician of over 20 years.
Influenced by the likes of Nils Frahm, Alessandro Cortini, Brian Eno, and Olafur Arnalds, The Broken Cradle leans toward compositional ambient and neoclassical music that moves from soothing piano melodies to gritty and soaring synthetic atmospheres. His music tells a story through the moods and soundscapes, interposed with gentle felt piano and strings.

Episode 33 of The Ambient Vault features my special guest Panic Girl. Panic Girl is a modular downtempo artist based in Munich, Germany. She was gracious to share a mix of tracks from her discography, including a track from her latest album, “BLUE”.
BLUE is Panic Girl’s third studio album and her most versatile yet. After years of exploring experimental instruments, new and old technologies and trying out different musical paths, she now combines her knowledge to compose intimate and mesmerizing songs with many hidden layers and little details for the listener to explore. Be prepared to discover field recordings from all over the world, lofi bits from cassette recorders and 8bit loopers, heavy bass sounds from vintage synthesizers among many other gems and oddities from her studio. BLUE is a journey into Panic Girl’s magic sonic realm, that she hopes will be the soundtrack to your next daydream.
Panic Girl is a modular downtempo artist based in Munich, Germany. She dedicated her life to music from an early age. After receiving classical training in piano, guitar, and singing she got deep into the production of electronic music. If you visit her place, it is hard to not fall over a big mess of cables and different production gear like a Eurorack System, the Marxophone, ARP2600, Jomox XBase 09, Cocoquantus or Casio CZ 5000 synthesizer. Influenced by a wide range of music Panic Girl delivers a deep mixture of electronica and experimental sounds. Besides writing her own lyrics, she writes and produces all recordings on her own. Her current studio album is called “BLUE” and was released on “i u we records”, a label that focusses on the beauty of female diversity in electronic music.

Episode 32 of The Ambient Vault features my special guest Hiroshi Ebina. Hiroshi has been generous to share his stunningly beautiful and poignant album “For My Grandma”. It is a quintessential acoustic based ambient album lovingly dedicated to his grandma. Tracks are as follows:

Hiroshi Ebina has a unique multi-disciplinary background, ranging from composing ambient music, performing gagaku, the traditional ritual music in Japan, as well as photographing minimalist landscapes in cities and nature. After spending years in Tokyo and New York, Hiroshi Ebina resettled himself in his hometown outside Tokyo in 2018. While exploring scenic sounds using guitars, modular synthesizers and tape machines, Hiroshi studied hichiriki and biwa, traditional gagaku instruments, and dance under the guidance of musicians from the Imperial Household Agency.
Serendipity is a quintessential part of Hiroshi’s unique soundscapes, as he incorporates sound and silence that emerge and disappear as though by chance. His compositional process is like spreading dots and lines on a white paper and give them some orders. Then those lines and dots start showing some shapes. For him, music not really about being accurate about rhythm or pitch. He is more concerned with texture, the spaces between each note, and how it feels to his ears.In June 2018, he released his latest album “Evanescent,” and “Bergen” from The Ambient Zone in November 2018. Hiroshi also worked with the London-based Erland Cooper, who released his collaborative album “Sule Skerry” in May 2019. From 2019, Hiroshi has been affiliated with Singapore-based KITCHEN. LABEL, from which he is releasing his new album soon. In July 2020, he and his label mate Kin Leonn released a collaborative EP “Faraway Vicinity.”

[I almost always approach music from a cinematic viewpoint. Putting a mental narrative to it all helps make it make sense to me and hopefully to the listeners. So for this track I had envisioned being ceaselessly pursued by a monster in my nightmares only to jolt myself awake and find that I'm standing in the middle of the neighborhood street barefoot under an orange street light. The lights illuminate the smokey, foggy street all the way to the bend where my eyes finally focus on a silhouette, the monster has found me and begins gaining on me.”This track feels like the soundtrack that would accompany that scene. Episode 23 of The Ambient Vault features the music of Robert Simons, who generously offered up tracks from his project Catchthehare for this week’s episode.
Catchthehareis a musical project by multi-instrumentalist Robert Simons that explores the intersection between electronic composition and experimental sound recording.
Robert’s musical journey began at an early age learning the cello and classical guitar, but soon developed a keen interest in electronic music and synthesizers during the early 90s. Much of his work draws upon a variety of eclectic musical styles that he was exposed to growing up in Jamaica, Italy, South Africa and Uruguay.
His musical output is often rooted by a melodic framework, combined with a colourful palette of modular synthesis, field recordings, tape manipulation and acoustic instrumentation.
His ambient-focused album Sterrenbeelden is currently available on Bandcamp, Spotify and all the streaming platforms
Robert currently lives and works with his partner in the deep Suffolk countryside, United Kingdom.

Taupe (72, 60, 50) is a slowly evolving piece recorded on a modular synthesizer to reel-to-reel and played back at half speed.

Episode 15 of The Ambient Vaultis something a little different that I hope you will enjoy. My family and I recently discovered tapes in the attic of my late grandfather, gospel pianist James Miller (1916-1994). These tapes feature my grandfather practicing piano at home and performing gospel hymns and original compositions that have never been heard before. Grandpa James was a sweet man and amazing pianist who tragically died in a car accident in 1994. It was thought that he left no recordings behind, or at least not any that still existed. Imagine our delight at discovering these boxes that had been sitting in the attic for over a quarter of a century filled with reel to reel tapes and cassettes! For our family to hear his music fill the air again after decades of carrying it with us only in our heads and hearts is overwhelming. He was an extraordinary talent and so it is so amazing for us to have these recordings and I wanted to share just one recording with you here of one of his practice sessions. I felt it narrowly fit the definition of ambient due to it’s informal nature and perhaps from a historical perspective as well, but if you’re interested in hearing more please check out the Instagram page I’ve made for him @jamesmillergospelpianist, and as always thanks so much for listening!
James “Jimmy” Miller (1916 – 1994) was an American gospel pianist, vocalist and composer, who from the mid-1930s until the mid-1990s was known among evangelistic ministries for his unique style and impromptu arrangements and performances of hymns and gospel music. In addition to evangelistic ministries he had his own ministry for elderly and shut-ins entitled Sunshine Hymn Time, a weekly radio program where he would sing hymns, original songs and play piano solos. He also visited nursing homes, playing requests on whatever pianos were available.
