Shown by its mismanagement of the US Open Cup, the US Soccer Federation has lost all authority as the governing body for the sport in this country. USSF has allowed MLS to become the most powerful soccer entity in this country. At the same time, the US soccer system is a mess as leagues compete against leagues. The chaos of the way that the US Open Cup debacle has been run shows how weak the leadership is under the US Soccer Federation.

In a game that is so simple, VAR has made the sport more complicated. It has removed a lot of enjoyment from the game and has made it more tedious to watch when VAR gets involved. As such, hosts Kartik Krishnaiyer and Christopher Harris discuss how VAR is ruining the Premier League, and what the solution is, as well as comparing it to how other leagues handle VAR. Much like the men's side, the Wrexham Women's team has undergone considerable change since American investors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took over at the club. Not only has Wrexham Women earned promotion to its top flight, but it is growing in popularity.

The brains behind that growth is Gemma Owen, who oversees the entire women's department at Wrexham AFC. Among her many hats, she is also an assistant manager of the U-19 Women's side with Wrexham. However, her responsibilities vary greatly.

This episode of the World Soccer Talk podcast, which is an interview with AFP's Simon Evans on US Soccer and foreign coaches, is presented by Sling.

Gregg Berhalter is back, and US Soccer stated that it went through a rigorous evaluation process to come to that conclusion. The Federation did not state any names as to who it contacted. Yet, media report several candidates were not American. However, none were up to the task by US Soccer's measurement. It settled on Berhalter half a year after his contract expired.

The players are clearly fond of the coach. But, is this the best US Soccer could do? It stated that finances were no issue, nor were the contract statuses of particular coaches. Berhalter does hold the best win percentage in USMNT history. How valid of an argument is that given somewhat weak opposition.

Guillem Balague is one of soccer's most famous journalists, regardless of country. Renowned for his ability to capture the emotion and personality of the game, he is a major part of CBS's developing and entertaining soccer coverage. And, with a new documentary series on Paramount Plus, there is no better time to learn more about Balague.

In this interview, Balague talks about Destination: European Nights, which is now available on Paramount Plus. The six-part documentary series has the Spanish journalist travel around Europe during the UEFA Champions League. World Soccer Talk's Kyle Fansler asks Balague about what it is like to travel around and get to know all these different cultures. With visits to Georgia, Israel and the usual cathedrals of the sport, Balague has a better understanding of European soccer than most.

Outside of that, Balague also discusses his work with non-League side Biggleswade United, which is in the ninth tier of the English pyramid. There, he is the chairman of the club. Finally, Balague talks about his relationship with Grant Wahl. Like Balague, Wahl was an influential journalist, particularly in the American soccer scene. The two were colleagues, and Balague was with Wahl just before the latter passed away during the World Cup.

JJ Watt's Burnley may not be the best descriptor. After all, the former NFL defensive lineman is but a minority owner of Burnley FC. Yet, the club won promotion back to the Premier League at its first time of trying. However, he has already, and will continue to have, a major impact on the club's popularity. That is particularly true in the United States.

In this episode of the World Soccer Talk podcast, Kyle Fansler talks to AFP sports journalist Simon Evans. Evans, who is a "From the Bee Hole End" podcast host, talks about JJ and Kealia Watt. The two already made waves by lifting the Championship trophy and going on a bar crawl through Burnley. Evans discusses the similarities between Watt's upbringing in Wisconsin and the town of Burnley.

Evans is a Burnley native. While he currently resides in the United States, he has a great understanding and respect for the people of the town. That town, which is largely working class, is somewhat similar to Wrexham, where two Hollywood owners in Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds turned around that Welsh club as it returns to the Football League. Can Watt bring enough American enthusiasm to Burnley so that it can develop a strong and consistent following across the Atlantic Ocean?

The last time a Bundesliga club other than Bayern Munich won the title was when GolTV had the rights to broadcast games in the United States. During the time that FOX Sports and ESPN+ have had the rights to the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich has won every single season. And with Borussia Dortmund coming so close to winning it, but failing, the Bundesliga continues to have no good luck in breaking up the dominance by Bayern.

After all, she did win the 2022 World Soccer Talk award as best presenter among stiff competition from the likes of Rebecca Lowe, Kate Abdo or Sebastian Salazar. Bundesliga fans in the United States will be familiar with Archie Rhind-Tutt. He is the pitchside reporter and analyst for ESPN's coverage of the Bundesliga. What makes him stand out among other analysts is his relationship with the players and coaches in the Bundesliga. In particular, he holds a special back-and-forth with Borussia Dortmund manager Edin Terzic. He also had a good relationship with former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann.

Rhind-Tutt is an Englishman, and he is a Fulham supporter to boot. However, he fell in love with the German sport on a school trip. After growing closer to the Bundesliga, he found himself watching the league more and more. He credits that to the passion of the fans and the general environment of the Bundesliga with its community feel.

Telemundo's World Cup coverage features nothing but pure emotion. Essentially, its broadcasters deliver the game in its most lively form. From rapid buildup commentary to seemingly unending golazo calls, the play-by-play voices are spectacular.

One of those is Sammy Sadovnik, a Peruvian by birth who now calls game with Telemundo. He is one of the lead voices in Telemundo's World Cup coverage. At the 2022 World Cup, he was the voice behind Croatia's penalty shootout win over Japan, Uruguay's heartbreak in the group stage and Argentina's win against Poland.

Most people can recognize Ker from his time on the FX documentary show Welcome to Wrexham. The show chronicles Wrexham's takeover by American actors Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds. Yet, at the crossroads of their ownership and the club itself is Humphrey Ker.

In this discussion, Ker breaks down what he actually does with Wrexham in that role. Plus, he talks about how important the documentary itself is in both growing the game in the United States, while also shedding light on soccer just outside the top four division of the EFL. He talks about what he has learned, and what he has enjoyed the most during his time with the club, including some decisions regarding the documentary.

In this latest edition of the World Soccer Talk Podcast, episode 1443, Kyle Fansler talks to one of the youngest American owners of a European soccer club.

Jordan Gardner is the co-owner and co-chairman of FC Helsingør. Helsingør is in the Danish 1st Division, which is the second tier on the Danish soccer pyramid. At under 40 years of age, Gardner took part control over the club back in 2019. Since then, under his leadership, the club earned promotion to the Danish 1st Division. Then, last season, it narrowly missed out on promotion to the Danish Superliga.

Gardner brings a modern take on club ownership, which clearly yields success for a club punching above its weight. The use of data and analytics allows Helsingør to fulfill Gardner's aim of the club being a great spot for transfers and development. Gardner also discusses his biggest lessons and favorite moments during his time involved with the European game.

In the latest edition of the World Soccer Talk podcast, host Kyle Fansler talks all things Serie A with an expert on the league. Matteo Bonetti is the lead Serie A analyst for CBS Sports and Paramount+. Plus, he is a frequent co-commentator alongside Dre Cordero for broadcasts of games. 

Bonetti, a longtime fan and analyst for Serie A coverage in the United States, previews what should be a wildly entertaining Serie A campaign. Milan and Inter enter with high hopes, with the Rossoneri winning last season's Scudetto. The other traditional big names in Serie A are challenging to predict. Bonetti also goes to the bottom of the table. There, it could be challenging for some of the newcomers to the league to stay up. One club, however, seems better than the others, and could very well maintain status in the top flight and then some.

The Serie A season kicks off Saturday, August 13, with title defenders Milan battling Udinese. Coverage of all 10 games this weekend is exclusive to Paramount+ in the United States.
