- 131 - Getting Beyond the Campus How Pluralism Invites Our Shared Light into the World
The beauty and work of interfaith community building is undeniable when we witness what is possible when we meet on the bridge of our shared values. It is important to remember however that interfaith community is a hyper-contextualized endeavor. Just as we focus on the here and now, on this world, rather than the next life or another plane of existence, so too must we understand how to live out our interfaith principles in society. Rev. Nic concludes his series on Becoming Bridge Builders with a reflection on the impact this interfaith ministry can have on our wider society. You can find the written service on Substack! Wed, 24 Apr 2024 - 37min - 130 - Navigating Conflict When We Remember We Are Human
Being an interfaith leader requires an acknowledgement that we will mess up. Perfection is not the key to relationships, interfaith or otherwise. Rather it is finding ways to mend relationships when conflicts inevitably emerge. This service will remind us of our humanity and our ability to get back up when we miss the mark. 0:06 Opening Words 1:35 Wonderbox 5:12 Reflection 10:00 Reading 14:18 Reading 17:41 Sermon You can find the written service on Substack! On this Easter Sunday, we explore the poetic wisdom found across different religions. For most Unitarian Universalists, the symbolism of Easter is about new life and goodness overcoming death and systems of oppression. Easter, like spring and other holidays this time of year, invite a poetic mind and appreciation for our shared humanity that seeks the good and right in all we do. 0:08 Opening Words 1:46 Wonderbox 6:43 Poems on Death 11:40 Reflection 15:40 Poems on New Life 19:50 Reflection You can find the written service on Substack! Wed, 03 Apr 2024 - 22min - 127 - Abide with Me Seeking Understanding in the Face of Suffering and Death
Reflections on life and death are at the heart of the human experience across religious traditions. But what about the space between the two? Joy and happiness are not assured to any of us in life and many peoples in this country and abroad suffer tremendously throughout life. Rev. Nic will offer his thoughts on the reality of suffering as it pertains to our lives, our interfaith work, and how we think about the vast space between life and death.

What is good? Moral? What actions should I take in this situation or that? Is there a universal good or a handbook on ethics? While every religion has teachings on what is ethical, as Unitarian Universalists, we recognize that not one religion holds ultimate truth whether about God or about ways of living moral lives. Rev. Mon, 19 Feb 2024 - 36min - 123 - Celebrating the Worthiness of Every Body
With the overturning of Roe v. Wade, the topic of bodily autonomy is front and center more that it has been in decades. At the core of controlling, predominantly, women's and trans people's bodies is not only misogyny and transphobia, but the hatred and narrow defining of the value and purpose of bodies in general. Through an exploration of the influences of diet culture, social media, and ableism, Rev. This summer, Rev. Cecilia Kingman offered the 203rd Annual Berry Street Essay on the shifting theological and practical uses of power in Unitarian Universalism. Are there limitations to a liberal religious understanding of power (e.g. freedom) and would a shift toward a more liberationist view of power (e.g. love) be a better path? Tue, 14 Feb 2023 - 17min - 98 - 2.5.23 Death by a Thousand Paper Cuts
This Sunday, we begin to explore our individual and communal stories and journeys. What gets in the way of our stories integrating and connecting? In this service, we invite a tender-hold of what we wrestle with, of the ways in which we've been hurt in religious/spiritual communities. Being in a space where we wrestle with a both/and is OK and part of allowing transition to happen.

Thu, 09 Feb 2023 - 36min - 97 - 1.29.23 Soil, Soul, and Story
With Rev. Sarah Gettie McNeill
Soils tell the stories of a place, bearing remnants of past actions of its inhabitants. From soils, we can learn of the past’s weather from year to year or glean how healthy the microbiome is. And soil allows for so much creativity! From lush gardens to the mud pies of children, soil is full of potential. If we were to look at the soils of UUCCI – both literal and metaphorical – what would we find?

We are always learning, growing, and evolving in our own understanding of what it means to be a Unitarian Universalist. Love, however, is always central to putting our UU values into action. In this service designed for All Ages to participate together, we will sing, share stories, and reflect on words from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. that call us to work for justice and liberation year round.

Thu, 19 Jan 2023 - 33min - 94 - 1.8.23 Part 1: Before We Begin - On Change and Transitions
We begin with Elizabeth Valencia-Gutierrez by reflecting on change and transition. Author William Bridges made a distinction between change and transitions. Bridges writes, "without a transition, a change is just a rearrangement of the furniture. Unless transition happens, the change won't work, because it doesn't 'take'. Whatever word we use, our society talks a lot about change; but it seldom deals with transition."

Dennis will share some of his cultural struggles, as well as his thoughts on the Unitarian Universalist Association's proposed changes to our Seven Principles.

This year, we return, we remember, we renew. As a congregation of hope and courage, we return to one another for our ingathering Sunday. We will mingle the waters of our lives into a common vessel, a symbol of our lives together. Please bring a small amount of water from your home or a body of water near or far, as we prepare for the year ahead as a community.Thu, 26 Aug 2021 - 19min - 39 - 8.1.21 - Dialogue Between Hopeful, Broken Hearts

Sunday, July 25 • 10:30AM • In-person or YouTube
Spiritual Journey: Stephanie StudleyWhen The Studley family attended a Standing on the Side of Love rally in November of 2016, Stephanie had no idea what it meant to be a Unitarian Universalist but found herself curious about the organizations supporting the event. She knew Malorie Farrington through a local moms club, so after seeing her at the rally, Stephanie asked her about UUCCI and she invited Stephanie to join her at a service. Then, a couple of months later, Black Lives Matter of Columbus, Indiana had a white ally workshop in the UUCCI Sanctuary. It was the first time Stephanie was in our building. “What is this place? What do they believe?”, she asked herself. Stephanie quickly discovered that UUCCI felt like the village she and her spouse, David, were searching for.

Never Turning Back Redux
Rev. Nic Cable and Steve Jasper
In April 2020, we pondered artist Kate Deciccio's words, "if we get this right, we will never go back to normal.” We envisioned – what would it look like for us as individuals and as a congregation to "get this right?", and if we aren't going to "go back to normal," then where are we going? One year later, we will explore our fear, our hope, and our courage for creating a new normal and a new world together.Fri, 23 Apr 2021 - 30min
